The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer marks the return of a legendary nameplate to the full-size, three-row SUV segment. A luxurious body-on-frame SUV, it competes with premium models. The Grand Wagoneer was available in model years 2022 and onwards. Key trims include the Series I, Series II, Obsidian, and Series III. Pricing ranged from approximately $88,000 to over $110,000 when new. Its standout features include opulent interiors, powerful engine, and impressive towing capabilities, making it popular for families seeking space and luxury.
The Good

The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer offers a compelling blend of advantages. Performance is strong thanks to its powerful V8 engine. Comfort is exceptional with its luxurious and spacious cabin. Its design is both commanding and elegant. While efficiency isn't its strongest suit, its towing capacity and passenger space appeal to practical buyers, while the luxurious features and iconic nameplate cater to emotional desires.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer include its relatively poor fuel economy compared to competitors. Some owners have reported issues with the infotainment system and electronic glitches. High purchase price and potentially costly maintenance should also be considered. Reliability, especially in early production models, is something to monitor. Its size can also be a drawback in urban environments.

What Problems Does the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer, based on early owner reports and industry data, include issues with the Uconnect infotainment system. Some users have reported glitches, freezing, and slow response times. Other reported problems include minor electrical issues, such as sensor malfunctions and problems with the power windows or door locks.

While it's still relatively early in the vehicle's lifespan to determine long-term reliability, some concerns have been raised regarding the complexity of its systems. The air suspension, while providing a comfortable ride, could potentially be a source of future maintenance issues. The extensive use of technology and electronic components may also lead to long-term reliability concerns.

Recalls can be checked on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website using the vehicle's VIN. It's important to stay informed about any recalls and ensure that any necessary repairs are performed promptly.

As the 2022 model year was the first year of the Grand Wagoneer's revival, potential buyers should be aware that first-year models often have a higher likelihood of experiencing initial quality issues. Monitoring owner forums and reliability surveys over time will provide a more comprehensive picture of the vehicle's long-term reliability.

How long will the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer last?

It's challenging to estimate long-term mileage for the relatively new 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer due to limited owner data. However, with consistent maintenance, these vehicles can likely achieve over 150,000 miles or 10+ years of service. Key to longevity is adhering to the recommended maintenance schedule, including regular oil changes, fluid checks, and timely replacement of wear items like brakes and tires.

Potential long-term weaknesses include the air suspension system, which may require eventual repairs, and the complex infotainment system, which could become outdated or prone to failure over time. Rust prevention is also crucial in regions with harsh winters.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer boasts a comprehensive suite of technology, entertainment, driver-assistance, and safety features.

Tech and Entertainment: The centerpiece is the Uconnect 5 infotainment system with a 12-inch touchscreen, offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims feature a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch front passenger interactive display, and a rear-seat entertainment system with dual 10.1-inch screens. A premium McIntosh audio system delivers exceptional sound quality.

Driver-Assistance Features: Standard features include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and parking sensors. Optional features include night vision, a surround-view camera system, and parallel and perpendicular park assist.

Safety Features: The Grand Wagoneer includes numerous airbags, electronic stability control, and trailer sway control.

Crash-Test Ratings: As a relatively new model, crash-test ratings from NHTSA and IIHS may be limited or unavailable for the 2022 model year. It is recommended to check these organizations' websites for the latest safety ratings. The vehicle is designed with a strong structure and advanced safety systems to provide a high level of occupant protection. The combination of these features makes the Grand Wagoneer a technologically advanced and safe vehicle for families.

2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Prices and Market Value

The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer had a starting MSRP around $88,000, with higher trims exceeding $110,000 when new. Used market prices vary based on mileage, condition, and trim, but expect to see prices ranging from $65,000 to $95,000. Depreciation is influenced by factors like mileage, condition, and market demand. High trim levels and well-maintained examples tend to retain more value. Limited initial production and strong demand may help support resale values compared to other luxury SUVs. However, fuel economy and potential reliability concerns could negatively impact resale values over time.

2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Cost of Ownership

The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is a costly vehicle to own. Insurance premiums are high due to its value and size. Fuel costs are substantial given its poor fuel economy. Maintenance and repair costs can also be significant, especially for the air suspension and complex electronic systems. While not economical, its luxury and capability might justify the costs for some buyers. Budget carefully for these expenses when considering long-term ownership.

2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Insurance

Insurance for a 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer competes with full-size luxury SUVs like the Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator, and Range Rover. In terms of performance, the Grand Wagoneer's V8 engine provides ample power, comparable to the Escalade and Navigator. Features are plentiful and luxurious, on par with its rivals. However, reliability is an area where the Grand Wagoneer might lag behind, particularly compared to the more established Navigator. Price-wise, it's generally competitive, but higher trims can become very expensive.

Alternatives to consider include:
  • Cadillac Escalade: Offers similar luxury and features, with a strong brand reputation and available Super Cruise driver-assistance system.
  • Lincoln Navigator: Known for its comfortable ride, elegant interior, and user-friendly technology.
  • Range Rover: Provides a more refined driving experience and off-road capability, but can be more expensive and less reliable.

If reliability is a top priority, the Lincoln Navigator might be a better choice. If you prioritize brand cachet and advanced technology, the Cadillac Escalade is a strong contender. The Grand Wagoneer excels in offering a blend of luxury, capability, and a distinct Jeep heritage, appealing to those seeking a unique and imposing SUV.

Ranks #1162 SUV

Final Verdict: Is the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is ideal for buyers seeking a luxurious, spacious, and capable full-size SUV with a distinctive design and strong towing capacity. It's worth buying if you prioritize a premium interior, powerful performance, and don't mind potentially higher running costs. Consider a used model for potential savings, but thoroughly inspect it and check its maintenance history. Opting for a higher trim level unlocks even more luxurious features, but be mindful of the added cost. If reliability is a primary concern, explore alternatives like the Lincoln Navigator or Cadillac Escalade before making a decision.

Space and Grace

I could never imagine owning a vehicle as large as the Grand Wagoneer but after driving it for 10 months, I really like it! There is ample room, it is powerful, the ride is very smooth and the driver visibility is without peer. When we have guests, we can all ride together and when there is light hauling to be done, it can all fit in the truck.
