The Good
The 2008 Mazda Tribute offered a balance of practicality and fun. Advantages include responsive handling (appealing to emotional buyers who enjoy driving), a relatively comfortable ride, available V6 power, and decent fuel economy for its class. Its biggest draw was affordability, appealing to practical buyers seeking a budget-friendly SUV. Its straightforward design also added to its appeal.
The Bad
Weaknesses of the 2008 Mazda Tribute include interior plastics that feel cheap, and relatively basic technology compared to newer vehicles. Potential buyers should watch out for rust, especially in areas with road salt. Some owners have reported issues with the automatic transmission and the air conditioning system. Overall refinement is not its strongest suit.

What Problems Does the 2008 Mazda Tribute Have?
While specific recalls varied, it's essential to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any outstanding recalls related to your specific VIN. Long-term reliability can be affected by deferred maintenance. Neglecting regular servicing, especially oil changes, can lead to engine problems. Overall, while not inherently unreliable, the 2008 Tribute requires diligent maintenance and pre-purchase inspection due to its age. Pay close attention to the transmission's condition and thoroughly examine the vehicle for rust before buying. Earlier model years of this generation Tribute have had similar issues, so these are general concerns for the model line. Prior to purchase, thoroughly research any known issues to anticipate future maintenance.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features included standard front airbags and anti-lock brakes (ABS). Side airbags were often optional. Electronic stability control (ESC) might have been offered on some trims. Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA should be consulted for specific details. NHTSA gave the 2008 Mazda Tribute ratings ranging from 4 to 5 stars for frontal and side impact protection. The IIHS rated it "Good" in some categories. It's important to note that safety standards have evolved significantly since 2008, so comparing these ratings to modern vehicles isn't directly equivalent. Overall, the 2008 Tribute prioritizes basic safety features over advanced technology. The available tech was relatively limited, focusing on functionality rather than cutting-edge innovation.

How Does the 2008 Mazda Tribute Compare to Other Wagon?
Alternatives include the Toyota RAV4 (for superior reliability), Honda CR-V (for a more refined experience and better features), and Ford Escape (for a similar driving experience at a potentially lower price). The Subaru Forester offers better all-weather capability. If reliability and longevity are top priorities, the CR-V or RAV4 are better choices, even if they cost slightly more upfront. If budget is the primary concern, the Tribute or Escape can be viable options, provided they've been well-maintained.

Best car I’ve ownedI have a 2008 model with 109K miles and climbing. This car has exceeded my expectations and has been the most reliable car I’ve owned. I wish Mazda would bring back a modernized version as I wouldn’t hesitate to upgrade to a newer model.

2008 Mazda TributeNice Style...cross between a truck and car. Best of both worlds. Plenty of room for driver, passengers and cargo. Too bad Mazda stopped making this model.

want oneI loved the interior with the black leather design. The head room was great and the seats wree comfortable. Sits up higher then my last suv which i didn't think I would like but was great. feels almost like driving a truck(i had one for my first vehicle) Plenty of space for sitting and trunk area. I only test drove it but fell in love and now am now in the process of getting a loan etc. So excited!

Its a Ford Escape with a faceliftI owned this vehicle for 3 years and overall had no complaints. The bullet proof 3.0 V6 was reliable and performed well. I had the AWD version and it performed well in bad weather. For the time i owned it this vehicle served me well.

Ongoing issues with the transmission and ignitionThis is a strong engine and vehicle except for the ignition and the transmission and the brake system malfunctioning. Poor reliability and durability for the cost

Best SUV I've ever owned. The Tribute is perfect for all my needs. It has great pickup, plenty of room for 5 adults. There is lots of room in the back for carrying luggage, groceries and other needs. The seats are extremely comfortable and the mechanical systems are great!

Lasted me 10 yearsIt's a great car, had a few issues but we're fixed easily. Bought it in 2010 and it's held up since, great for traveling long distance and for around town.
