2013 Volkswagen CC Overview, Reviews, Ratings & Specs

Rating: 4.63
Based on 90 Owner Reviews
Jovan | March 31, 2025
The 2013 Volkswagen CC is a stylish four-door "coupe" sedan, a more streamlined and sporty version of the Passat. Produced from 2009 to 2017, the 2013 model year offered trims like Sport, R-Line, and Lux. Known for its attractive design, comfortable interior, and relatively affordable price point for its class, the CC's original MSRP ranged from around $31,000 to $40,000 depending on the trim. It gained popularity for its premium feel without the premium price tag of competitors.
The Good

The 2013 VW CC boasts a sleek, head-turning design, offering an emotional appeal. Practically, it delivers a comfortable ride and decent fuel efficiency, especially with the 2.0T engine. It presents strong value for money compared to other "coupe" sedans. Performance is adequate, and while reliability can be a concern, well-maintained models offer a satisfying driving experience.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2013 VW CC include potential for higher repair costs than some competitors, particularly related to the timing chain tensioner in the 2.0T engine. Electrical issues and carbon buildup in the engine are also things to watch out for. Furthermore, the rear seat headroom is limited due to the sloping roofline, impacting passenger comfort.

What Problems Does the 2013 Volkswagen CC Have?

The 2013 Volkswagen CC, particularly models with the 2.0T engine, have been known to suffer from timing chain tensioner issues. If the tensioner fails, it can lead to catastrophic engine damage. This is a well-documented problem, and owners should ensure the tensioner has been inspected or replaced as a preventative measure. Carbon buildup on the intake valves is another common issue with the 2.0T engine, potentially reducing performance and fuel economy. Regular cleaning may be required.
Some owners have reported electrical problems, including issues with the sunroof, windows, and infotainment system. Premature wear of suspension components has also been noted. While there haven't been widespread recalls specific to the 2013 model year for these issues, it's important to check the NHTSA website for any applicable recalls based on the VIN. Long-term reliability can be improved through diligent maintenance, including regular oil changes, using high-quality fuel, and addressing any warning signs promptly. Ignoring these issues can lead to costly repairs down the line.

How long will the 2013 Volkswagen CC last?

With proper maintenance, a 2013 Volkswagen CC can reasonably reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-15 years of service. However, its longevity heavily depends on consistent maintenance and addressing potential issues promptly. Neglecting regular oil changes or ignoring warning signs can significantly shorten its lifespan. The timing chain tensioner (2.0T) and carbon buildup remain the primary long-term durability concerns. Electrical issues may also arise over time. Models with the VR6 engine tend to be more reliable in terms of major engine components, but are still subject to typical wear and tear.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2013 Volkswagen CC comes standard with a touchscreen audio system, Bluetooth connectivity, and dual-zone climate control. Higher trims offer features like a navigation system, premium audio, and leather upholstery. Driver-assistance features are relatively limited compared to newer cars, but some models include features like adaptive cruise control (VR6 Executive).
Safety features include anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, and a full complement of airbags. Blind-spot monitoring was not a standard feature for all trims.
The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) gave the 2013 VW CC an overall safety rating of 4 out of 5 stars. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) awarded the 2013 CC a "Good" rating in most crash tests. Keep in mind that safety technology has significantly advanced since 2013, so newer vehicles may offer superior protection. Optional features varied by trim level, so it's essential to check the specific features of any used CC you're considering.

2013 Volkswagen CC Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2013 Volkswagen CC ranged from approximately $31,000 to $40,000, depending on the trim and options. As of late 2023, used prices typically range from $7,000 to $15,000, depending on condition, mileage, and location. The CC has depreciated significantly due to its age and potential reliability concerns. Factors affecting resale value include maintenance history, overall condition, and mileage. Models with lower mileage and a clean maintenance record will command a higher price. The VR6 models generally hold their value slightly better due to their increased performance and standard features.

2013 Volkswagen CC Cost of Ownership

Insurance costs for the 2013 VW CC are generally moderate, similar to other mid-size sedans. Fuel costs are reasonable, especially with the 2.0T engine. However, maintenance and repair costs can be higher than average, particularly if issues like the timing chain tensioner or carbon buildup arise. Long-term ownership costs can be considered moderately expensive due to the potential for unexpected repairs. It's not the most economical choice, but careful maintenance can help mitigate these costs.

2013 Volkswagen CC Insurance

Insurance for a 2013 Volkswagen CC is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2013 Volkswagen CC Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2013 Volkswagen CC competes with vehicles like the Acura TSX, Buick Regal, and Nissan Maxima. In terms of style, the CC stands out with its coupe-like design. Performance is adequate, though the Acura TSX offers a more engaging driving experience. The Buick Regal offers similar levels of comfort but may be slightly more reliable. The Nissan Maxima provides more power but lacks the CC's refined interior.
In terms of reliability, the Acura TSX is generally considered more reliable than the CC. The Regal and Maxima offer comparable reliability. Regarding price, the CC is generally positioned competitively in the used market. If reliability is a top concern, the Acura TSX is a better alternative. If you prioritize power, the Nissan Maxima is a good choice. However, if you value style and a premium feel at a reasonable price, the CC remains a compelling option. Consider a well-maintained Lexus ES for a similar level of luxury and improved reliability.

Final Verdict: Is the 2013 Volkswagen CC a Good Sedan?

The 2013 Volkswagen CC is ideal for buyers who prioritize style and a premium feel without paying luxury car prices. It's worth buying if you're aware of the potential reliability concerns and are prepared to address them. A well-maintained model with a documented service history is crucial. The 2.0T engine offers good fuel economy, but the VR6 provides more performance. A pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic is highly recommended to assess the condition of the timing chain tensioner and other potential problem areas. Consider the R-Line for a sporty look or the Lux for added features. If reliability is your top concern, explore alternatives like the Acura TSX.

The 2013 or 13' Volkswagen CC is truly rare.

The 2013 or 13' Volkswagen CC is truly rare. This has always been on my bucket list as a dream vehicle to own. I will describe why I rated it the way I did with each section group. I chose 5 stars for comfort because this car comes standard with a high quality leatherette material; the seats are so thick, comfy, and plush; the car takes corners so smoothly and effortlessly. I have a base model (sport) and I have so many standard features; front driver and passenger full power seats, heated seats, leather seats (leatherette), navigation, one touch power windows, and push-start. I rate performance with a 5 because while this is not a race car, the CC drops 200 HP to the ground very efficiently and effectively with extremely touchy and sensitive pedals. Value is okay when trying to sell; however, substantial when trying to buy, due these going for well under $10,000. The exterior achieves 5 stars because this vehicle is extremely attractive. With smooth lines, roundness, and chrome, the car looks brand new, at 11 years old. To be completely transparent, I have ONLY used premium fuel and this car has never left me stranded (knock on wood). I had a very minor oil leak from a small seal coming from my oil pan, connecting to my turbo, that is IT. The part was/is under $100. Other than the oil leak, no lights, or issues aside from regular care and maintenance. The people who rate the CC with a 1 star reliability rating, don't understand how to care for these European/luxury vehicles.

Run from this car

Seriously worst car I have ever owned. Bought it used with 55k on it. Now it only has 65k in the two years of owning the car. First year it sat most of the time because of a shifter issues ($2,000). I then moved to Bozeman MT and it’s been in the shop about every 2 to 3 months and I’ve only been in Bozeman for about 6 months. First it was a battery that I just replaced 3 months ago. Car died on me a week later they told me it was a gas pump and something else ($1500). Three months later the car was shaking super bad brought it in and it needed another $1000. Two years of owning this car and it’s cost me about $5,000-$6,000. Can’t wait to get rid of the pos.

It is a used car...and a Volkswagen, salesman suck

I love the car, but it has basic maintenance and care that should be done or covered before you buy the vehicle...I love these cars and would buy another. They perform, are comfortable...but service and sales for them are just awful.

vw reliability with the Audi look

The car is fun to drive, zippy on corners, and good acceleration on highway. Perfect cruiser for long trips, leathers with two tone is so classy, gets attention everywhere I go. If you take good care of the car, it last, DSG transmission maintenance on time and change oil!! the 2 liter turbo is not hard to work with, easy access meaning low cost to fix. Good mpg, 31 high way true at mile high altitude, 25/27 in city. info system is clean and simple love the interior design. Over all it's fun for the driver and comfortable for the passenger.
