What Problems Does the 2003 Volvo V70 Have?
Several recalls may have affected the 2003 V70, so it's essential to check the vehicle's VIN with the NHTSA to verify that all necessary recall work has been performed. Common recalls for this era of Volvos included issues with the fuel pump relay and potential problems with the supplemental restraint system (SRS).
Long-term reliability concerns largely depend on maintenance history. Neglecting regular servicing can exacerbate the aforementioned issues and lead to more significant problems. Well-maintained V70s can provide many years of reliable service, but potential buyers should carefully inspect the car's service records and look for signs of previous issues.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features were a major selling point. The V70 boasted dual front airbags, side-impact airbags, and whiplash protection system (WHIPS) in the front seats. Optional safety features included integrated child booster seats in the rear.
Crash-test ratings were generally excellent. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) awarded the V70 high scores for frontal and side-impact protection. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) also gave the V70 good ratings. The focus was always on safety.
While lacking modern infotainment or advanced driver-assistance systems, the 2003 V70 provided a solid foundation of safety and essential features for its era. It was a car designed for family safety first.

How Does the 2003 Volvo V70 Compare to Other Sedan?
Reliability is a mixed bag. While generally robust, the V70's ETM issues are a concern. The Subaru Outback is often considered more reliable overall. In terms of price, the V70 offers good value on the used market, often costing less than the Audi or BMW.
Alternatives to the V70 include the Subaru Outback (for better reliability and all-wheel drive), the Audi A4 Avant (for a more upscale experience), and the BMW 3 Series Touring (for sportier handling). The Mercedes-Benz C-Class wagon is another alternative. However, considering its price point, the V70 presents a reasonable blend of practicality, safety, and comfort. A well maintained Subaru Outback is a good alternative.

Too expensive to repair and headrest blocks viewI really love it, but when things go wrong with it, wish I bought a different model. I would actually buy another one, mainly because I think they are the safest vehicle on the road.

I LOVE THIS CAR!!This is just the car I wanted and I am delighted. We have the 3rd row seat and I can bring extra children without having a minivan or an SUV. My only complaint, IF I had to make one, is that the defrost is automatic when I press defrost: it IS fast, which is the most important thing in the end, but it is really loud. So sort of a picky complaint. I would buy this car again in a second. I have had it since April of 2011, it is now October. LOVE IT!

I love itI have owned two Volvo 122S sedans, three 240s (two sedans and a wagon), an 850 sedan, and this one. I bought all of them used. Aside from the '68 122S this is my favorite. After fixing some computer problems at no cost when I bought it from a dealer under warrantee, it has been completely reliable. It is comfortable, has all the power I need, and I love the solid feeling.

This car is a money pitThis is the worst car I have ever owned. Major repairs keep on coming- thus far I have spent over $4,000 in repairs and the cheerful folks at the Volvo dealership tell me it now needs another $3,500 in repairs. It has 88,000 miles on it- are they crazy? Volvo charges top dollar for the lowest qualty. I will never own another Volvo- the reason Volvos are touted to be so safe is because they are always sitting in your mechanic's garage!
