The Subaru Impreza, a compact car known for its standard all-wheel drive, enters its sixth generation for 2024. Available exclusively as a hatchback, the Impreza has been around for decades, offering practicality and capability. Key trims include the base, Sport, and RS. The pricing range typically starts in the low $20,000s. Its symmetrical all-wheel drive and reputation for reliability make it a popular choice, especially in regions with inclement weather.
The Good

The 2024 Impreza boasts standard all-wheel drive, enhancing its appeal for practical buyers seeking secure handling in diverse conditions. Subaru's reputation for reliability offers peace of mind. The comfortable interior and updated design add emotional appeal. The RS trim offers a more potent engine for driving enthusiasts. Good fuel efficiency and a competitive price solidify its value proposition.

The Bad

While improved, the base engine can feel underpowered for some drivers. The continuously variable transmission (CVT), while efficient, isn't to everyone's taste. Infotainment systems in previous generations have received criticism, so evaluating the 2024 system is key. Road noise can be noticeable at highway speeds. Resale value, while generally good, can be affected by high mileage.

What Problems Does the 2024 Subaru Impreza Have?

Since the 2024 Impreza is a newly redesigned model, long-term reliability data is still emerging. Historically, Subaru Imprezas have had some common issues. Oil consumption has been a concern in some older models, though Subaru has addressed this over time. CVTs, while generally reliable, can sometimes require maintenance earlier than traditional automatic transmissions; monitoring for any unusual noises or behavior is important. The infotainment system's responsiveness has been a point of criticism in past models. Recalls are always possible, and it's essential to stay informed about any safety-related issues announced by Subaru or the NHTSA. Check for recalls related to airbags, braking systems, or fuel systems. Because this is a new model, ensure to check forums and owner reviews for any emerging patterns of problems specific to the 2024 model year. Addressing any issues promptly through proper maintenance can extend the Impreza's lifespan and minimize major repairs.

How long will the 2024 Subaru Impreza last?

With proper maintenance, a 2024 Subaru Impreza can reasonably be expected to last for 150,000-200,000 miles or 10-15 years. Consistent oil changes, timely servicing of the CVT, and adherence to Subaru's recommended maintenance schedule are crucial. Subarus are known for their durability, but neglecting maintenance can lead to premature wear of components like suspension parts, brakes, and the exhaust system. Rust can be a concern in regions with harsh winters and road salt, so regular washing and undercoating can help extend the body's lifespan. The long-term durability hinges on responsible ownership.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2024 Subaru Impreza comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system (base) or an 11.6-inch touchscreen (Sport and RS), featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Higher trims offer upgraded audio systems.

Driver-assistance features are a highlight, with Subaru's EyeSight Driver Assist Technology standard on all models. This includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and lane keeping assist. Blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert are often available on upper trims.

Safety is a Subaru hallmark. Expect excellent crash-test ratings from the IIHS and NHTSA, but check official sources once the 2024 ratings are released. Additional safety features may include automatic high beams, a rearview camera, and available reverse automatic braking. Optional features can include a sunroof, upgraded wheels, and premium interior materials, depending on the trim level. The Impreza's tech and safety suite makes it a well-rounded and appealing option for safety-conscious buyers.

2024 Subaru Impreza Prices and Market Value

The 2024 Subaru Impreza's new price typically ranges from the low $20,000s to around $30,000 depending on the trim and options. As a new model, used market prices are just emerging, but expect them to be slightly lower than new, reflecting typical depreciation. Subaru's generally hold their value well, but factors like mileage, condition, and location influence resale. Models with lower mileage, clean accident records, and desirable features (like the EyeSight system) will command higher prices. The Impreza's AWD and reputation for reliability contribute to its strong resale value.

2024 Subaru Impreza Cost of Ownership

The 2024 Subaru Impreza is generally considered economical to own. Insurance costs are typically moderate. Fuel economy is competitive for its class, especially with the 2.0-liter engine. Maintenance costs are average, but adhering to the recommended schedule is vital. Repairs can be more expensive than some competitors due to the AWD system, but Subaru's reliability helps mitigate this. Overall, the Impreza offers a balance of affordability and capability, making it a cost-effective choice for many buyers.

Bought the car 3-4 weeks ago after 16 years with Nissans, and this is heads and tails above the Nissan, and i loved my Sentra's But the body lines are better on the Impreza, i like the Hatchback over the sedan, i have the base model and frankly i prefer the 2 screens over the 1 huge one, i do wish they had the android play wireless in the base but i still have it, just have to plug in, People say the 2.0 boxer is slow, they never owned a 1.8 sentra lol, this car feels smoother, it is a tad noisier on the highway but a better ride over all, as to dependability full discloser i was once a Subaru mechanic at a dealership, but always assumed i couldn't afford a subaru and i was wrong, but they are as if not more dependable than a Toyota and a lot less money.

Good for the money

Nice car for the price. Spacious inside. Little low to the ground, but otherwise great value. Has a good amount of bells and whistles for a base model
