What Problems Does the 2013 Subaru Impreza Have?

The 2013 Subaru Impreza has some frequently reported problems to be aware of. Oil consumption is a common concern, with some owners reporting the need to add oil between changes. This issue is more prevalent in earlier model years of this generation.

Another reported issue revolves around the continuously variable transmission (CVT). Some owners have experienced jerky or hesitant shifting, particularly at lower speeds. Regular CVT fluid changes can help mitigate this problem.

While not a widespread issue, some owners have reported issues with the infotainment system, particularly with Bluetooth connectivity and touchscreen responsiveness.

Regarding recalls, it's important to check the NHTSA website for any outstanding recalls related to the 2013 Impreza. Common areas for recalls can include issues with airbags, fuel systems, or electrical components. Owners should ensure any recall work has been performed before purchasing a used model. Long-term reliability is generally good, but addressing potential oil consumption and CVT issues is crucial for maintaining the vehicle's longevity.

How long will the 2013 Subaru Impreza last?

A well-maintained 2013 Subaru Impreza can easily reach 200,000 miles or more. With regular servicing and proactive maintenance, owners report 10-15 years of service. Long-term durability depends heavily on addressing potential oil consumption issues and performing regular CVT fluid changes (if equipped). Weaknesses can emerge in the form of increased oil leaks, worn suspension components, and potential sensor failures as the car ages. However, with proper care, the Impreza can provide reliable transportation for many years.

Cheap, reliable, comfy, low maintenance. These cars from my experience will last you a lifetime. You should consider one and you won’t regret it. I’ve owned server all Subarus in the past and they all have been amazing to me

Car is in excellent condition. Everything it was advertised to be and much more. I would definitely recommend this vehicle to anyone. It has all the features we were looking for.

This is my fourth and last Subaru Impreza! For a car that was rally inspired, I really struggle to work out which rally inspired this? From my first Impreza in 1997 I have always loved the nimble handling, acceleration and overall thrill of driving the car. So to the new car, it sounds like a hair-dryer that is on the way out. The interior is bland, the handling is sluggish, the brakes are spongy. There is so much turbo lag on the car that pulling out into traffic is dangerous and annoying. I have had this car for 3 months, and I am already looking to trade it in for something else. I would take my daughters 1.6l 2008 Ford Focus over my 2.5l Subaru Impreza. I will never buy another Impreza again, and I am sure Colin McRae (who took the Subaru to WRX glory would be turning in his grave at what they have done to what was an amazing car).

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2013 Subaru Impreza's tech features were relatively basic for its time. Standard features included a four-speaker sound system, power windows and locks, and an auxiliary audio input. Higher trims offered Bluetooth connectivity, a six-speaker sound system, and a touchscreen infotainment system (typically on Limited models).

Driver-assistance features were limited, with a rearview camera available on the Limited trim. There were no advanced driver-assistance systems like lane departure warning or automatic emergency braking available in 2013.

Safety features included standard all-wheel drive, antilock brakes, stability control, and a full suite of airbags.

Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) were generally good. The 2013 Impreza earned a "Top Safety Pick" designation. NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) also awarded it a four-star overall safety rating. Optional features depended on the trim level, but included things like a sunroof, upgraded audio systems, and navigation.

2013 Subaru Impreza Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2013 Subaru Impreza ranged from around $17,500 for the base model to approximately $23,000 for the Limited trim. Current used market prices typically range from $7,000 to $12,000, depending on condition, mileage, and trim level. Depreciation has been moderate, thanks to Subaru's reputation for reliability and the desirability of all-wheel drive. Factors affecting resale value include maintenance history, accident-free status, and geographic location (AWD is more valuable in snowy regions). Lower mileage examples in excellent condition command a premium.

2013 Subaru Impreza Cost of Ownership

The 2013 Subaru Impreza is generally economical to own. Insurance costs are typically moderate. Fuel economy is decent, especially with the CVT. Routine maintenance is straightforward, but Subaru parts can sometimes be slightly more expensive than those of some competitors. Repair costs are average, but addressing potential oil consumption issues promptly can prevent more costly engine repairs down the line. Overall, the Impreza offers reasonable long-term ownership costs, balancing reliability with affordability.

2013 Subaru Impreza Insurance

Insurance for a 2013 Subaru Impreza is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2013 Subaru Impreza Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2013 Subaru Impreza competes with vehicles like the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Mazda3, and Ford Focus. In terms of performance, the Impreza lags behind the Mazda3 and Ford Focus in terms of driving dynamics and engine power. However, it surpasses them in offering standard all-wheel drive, a significant advantage in inclement weather.

Regarding features, the Civic and Corolla often offer more advanced tech and driver-assistance features, particularly in higher trims. Reliability is comparable across these models, with the Impreza, Corolla, and Civic generally scoring well. The Mazda3 also boasts a strong reliability record.

In terms of price, the Impreza is typically competitive, but the cost of ownership might be slightly higher due to potential oil consumption issues.

Alternatives to the Impreza include the Mazda3 (for a sportier driving experience), the Honda Civic (for advanced features and fuel efficiency), or the Toyota Corolla (for ultimate reliability and value). If all-wheel drive is not a priority, these alternatives may offer a better overall package. However, if AWD is essential, the Impreza remains a compelling choice.

Final Verdict: Is the 2013 Subaru Impreza a Good Sedan?

The 2013 Subaru Impreza is ideal for drivers prioritizing all-wheel drive, reliability, and practicality in a compact car. It's a worthwhile purchase, especially as a used vehicle, for those living in regions with snow or challenging road conditions. Opting for the Premium or Limited trims adds desirable features without significantly increasing the price. However, potential buyers should be aware of potential oil consumption issues and carefully inspect the vehicle before purchase. If AWD isn't a must-have, other competitors may offer better performance or features for the price.

Terrible gas mileage

This model is supposed to get 27-32 mpg. It gets 18 mpg, which is terrible for this type of car, especially with the CVT transmission. Otherwise it's exactly what I wanted.

It was the only choice for what I wanted

The Impreza Sport Limited Hatchback has the interior space I wanted, the AWD I need, the good MPG I like and it looks good. The car is peppier than you'd think. The radio is OK, but you'd think it would be better for the limited. The only things that are an issue is that it burns 1 qt oil about every 1.5K miles. The other is the check engine light comes on freq and cuts out the cruise. I have a work around but have taken it to mechanics who all come up with something different as to why I'm getting the error code of P0420. Supposedly this indicated that the Cat is not working properly. These guys can't agree. I'm not just going to throw parts at it and HOPE it works. The car drives great for something that supposedly has a bed Cat. Other than that I'm happy with the car. I even got all sappy and got a personalized Front plate that reads "My Rubie Subie" (car is maroon colored).

Superb all wheel drive.

Great legroom. Peppy. All wheel drive is amazing. Does not have a water temperature guage instead has a temperature light. My only critical note. Handles great. For a smallish 4 cyl its pretty quick.

In love with this car

So smooth. Went from my 2006 forester knowing I wanted another Subaru. My favorite car I've ever owned. Sporty, stylish, and still with the reliability and superior traction I've come to expect from Subaru.
