The Good
The 2009 Impreza appeals to both practical and emotional buyers. Its advantages include standard all-wheel drive for enhanced safety and handling, above-average reliability, and decent fuel efficiency. The sporty WRX trim offered a performance boost appealing to driving enthusiasts, while the overall value and dependability made it a sensible choice for everyday commuting.
The Bad
Potential weaknesses of the 2009 Impreza include a somewhat bland interior, especially in the base models. Some owners reported issues with oil consumption in the non-turbo engines. The ride can be firm, and the base engine may feel underpowered for some. Rust can be a concern in areas with heavy road salt use.

What Problems Does the 2009 Subaru Impreza Have?
Recalls for the 2009 Impreza included issues related to the fuel pump relay and potential problems with the brake light switch. It's important to check the vehicle's VIN with the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) to see if all applicable recalls were addressed.
Long-term reliability concerns revolved around head gasket issues (a Subaru staple, though less prevalent in this generation than earlier ones, particularly on the non-turbo engine), particularly if the car was not properly maintained. Rust could also be a problem in areas with harsh winters and road salt. The WRX models, due to their performance-oriented nature, may have experienced more wear and tear depending on the previous owner's driving habits. Regular maintenance, including timely oil changes and inspections, is crucial for mitigating these risks.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features were limited. ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) were standard. No advanced driver-assistance systems like lane departure warning or adaptive cruise control were available.
Safety features included standard front and side airbags, as well as side curtain airbags for both front and rear occupants.
Crash-test ratings for the 2009 Subaru Impreza were generally good. The NHTSA awarded it four or five stars in most crash test categories. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) gave it a "Good" rating in frontal offset and side impact crash tests, earning it a "Top Safety Pick" designation. These solid safety ratings were a key selling point for the Impreza.

How Does the 2009 Subaru Impreza Compare to Other Wagon?
In terms of reliability, the Impreza was generally on par with the Civic and Corolla, although the oil consumption issues on some engines could be a concern. The Mazda3 offered a sportier driving experience than the base Impreza, but lacked the AWD option. The Sentra was often priced lower, but its reliability was sometimes questioned. For those prioritizing fuel efficiency and a more comfortable ride, the Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla might be better choices. However, for buyers needing all-weather capability and a reliable AWD system, the Impreza was a strong contender. The Mazda3 is a similar alternative if AWD is not a must and a sportier drive is desired. The Mitsubishi Lancer (AWD versions) could also be considered but it is not as refined as the Impreza.

Great commuting car or second car for errands, etcThis car served us well for commuting and errands. It has been a reliable basic car. It has great cargo capacity for a small car and is easy to park in congested neighborhoods. Brakes are all new -- pads, rotors and calipers -- at the beginning of last winter.

Is this common??I bought the car on 9/28/18 from Northwest Motorsports. I come to find out the radiator is shot when I turned on my ac and the car got hot. I haven?t even made my first payment. The salesman went to their Lynwood location the day before and on his way back the car he said blew a hose and he fixed it. I don?t think this is the kind of problem I should be having for an $8,000 car already

Great Car!the car is used and runs so smooth, its like new! the only thing I am not impressed with is the fact it doesn't have an aux plug, but it is an older vehicle and I knew it wasn't going too. the cloth black seats are perfect when you have a child that likes to make a mess. it is very roomy and has a nice look to it.
