The Good
The 2006 Volvo V70 offers a blend of practicality and comfort. Its spacious interior and comfortable ride appeal to practical buyers, while the sleek Scandinavian design and available turbocharged engines offer some emotional appeal. Reliability is generally good with proper maintenance, and it provides good value as a used wagon.
The Bad
The 2006 Volvo V70, while generally reliable, has some known weaknesses. Potential buyers should watch out for electronic issues, particularly with the climate control system and dashboard displays. Suspension components, especially in higher-mileage examples, can also wear out. Turbo models can experience turbocharger issues if not properly maintained.

Analysis
What Problems Does the 2006 Volvo V70 Have?
Recalls for the 2006 V70 have included issues related to the fuel pump relay, which could cause the engine to stall, and potential problems with the side airbags. Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the complexity of the electrical system. Keeping up with regular maintenance, especially fluid changes and timely replacement of wear items, is crucial for maximizing the lifespan of the V70. Turbocharged models require diligent oil changes to prevent turbocharger problems. Some owners have reported issues with the automatic transmission at higher mileage, so regular transmission fluid flushes are recommended. Prior to purchase, checking the vehicle history report for maintenance records and any recall work performed is advisable. Addressing minor issues promptly can prevent them from escalating into more costly repairs down the road.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Entertainment features typically included a CD player, AM/FM radio, and available premium sound systems. Some models also offered a built-in phone system (integrated phone) and a navigation system, although these are quite dated by modern standards.
Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern vehicles but included cruise control.
Optional features varied by trim level but could include a sunroof, leather upholstery, heated seats, and a rear-seat entertainment system.
Crash test ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) were generally very good for the 2006 Volvo V70, reflecting Volvo's commitment to safety. The V70 consistently scored well in frontal and side impact crash tests, earning top ratings for occupant protection. These ratings contributed to the V70's reputation as a safe and family-friendly vehicle. The availability of features like side-impact airbags and WHIPS further enhanced its safety credentials.

How Does the 2006 Volvo V70 Compare to Other Vehicle?
In terms of features, the V70 provided a strong emphasis on safety, a hallmark of Volvo. Its competitors offered comparable features, but Volvo's reputation for safety gave it an edge. Reliability is comparable to the Passat Wagon, but the Outback is often considered more reliable.
Price-wise, the V70 fell in the middle of the pack when new, and used prices reflect its age and condition.
Alternatives to the V70 include the Subaru Outback for its all-weather capability and reliability, and the Acura TSX wagon (if available in your market) for a blend of luxury and reliability. The Volkswagen Passat Wagon can be a similar alternative, but be mindful of potential reliability concerns. Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual needs and priorities.

Final Verdict: Is the 2006 Volvo V70 a Good Vehicle?
Dragula Driver on January 20, 2020
Dragula - she's a tankDrove the car during extreme west Michigan winters. I now drive the hills of West Virginia. She has 285,000 miles on her. One small rust spot on the driver door. Interior and engine are clean. I have the oil changed every 5,000- 7,000 miles, tires rotated, and am back to using premium gas. Parts can be expensive, but have been fortunate with mechanics that have been honest in telling me what needs to be done and what can wait to be done. So glad my youngest son chose to take the other car off to college.

Think of a reliable tankThe Volvo wagons I have owned have been the best built vehicles I have ever seen.Sorry MB,Audi,BMW.I love German cars, but they have more small bugs than any Volvo I?ve owned. My current 2006 V70r is one of the fastest, most comfortable, well built cars ever.300hp 300ft.lbs torque all wheel drive,6 speed auto. All with a 2.5 litre engine.Volvo seats are the absolute best in the industry.Super comfort and support. The car handles great, despite some critics opinion, and has huge Brembo brakes that will stop you like you can?t believe.I tow a small trailer, commute with it,and explore it?s limits one some of the nice highways near by.I now have 226,000 k on it,just broken in nicely.I will park it and do some maintenance this winter.New struts all around for the active suspension, also works well. These cars just don?t seem to break down.As long as you Maintain them.I had a old 740 turbo wagon for 8 years. The car had 325000 k on it when some xxxxx plowed into me and I had to retire it.Both cars were totaled and I walked away unhurt. It also never broke down.Ever.I call Volvo?s the Toyota?s of European cars, but a lot more comfortable.

Spacious and efficientWe have had our Volvo for a month and are very happy with it. The size is a major upgrade without having had to get a minivan and SUV. With a second baby on the way 2 car seats will fit generously. Parking in Brooklyn has so far not been an issue despite being a bit longer than we were. The interior is functional and intuitive and feels very luxorious. Tons of cup holders and storage and great little details throughout. The driving performance is solid. The way back is super spacious and we love having the cover to pull over so our stuff isnt exposed. We will use this car mostly for road trips and local errand running and it so far has met all of our needs/wants. Only complaint is that it came with only one key and it is very expensive to get another

Awesome CaRNothing like it in the Volvo lineup today. If you want comfort, a stylish footprint for a wagon then the R is for you. Very satisfying to have a sleeper looking car then use those impressive 300 ponies to get you from 0-60 in under 6 seconds! Awesome performing car.

My dream carI have owned this car for 4 years and love it. It drives like a dream. I must admit that since I bring it back to Volvo for it's annual checkups, I do find them expensive. By and large it has been a reliable comfortable car. I commute every day back and forth to work and we have taken it on long drive holidays. My only wish is that it took regular gas, not high grade gas. But it is a luxury car...!

Excellent ar if you are rich or are a mechanicThe Volvo V70 is a fine car in every way, but like all cars, it sometimes needs repair. Volvo repair costs at a dealer are way, way, way too expensive. $360 to change tranny fluid? $400 for new front pads and rotors? It's a fine car, but be ready to get bent over by Volvo dealer service charges.

The Volvo V70 - One Capable CarThis car is a 4 star vehicle. It has nice V6 engine with good power and decent gas mileage. The performance is less than outstanding without the turbo engine. The best part of the V70 is the capability. It has generous cargo room, especially when the 2nd row is folded down. It has some nice available seating options, such as leather upholstery, heated front seats, child booster seat, and backwards-facing 3rd row seat in case the kids bring some friends. Along with the 3rd row, comes a convienent door handle on the tailgate that allows the passenger to leave without someone else opening the tailgate. It also comes with standard traction control and ABS. You can trust this information, because it is coming from the owner of the only manual transmission V70 with the luxury package in the USA.
