Rating: 4.21
Based on 71 Owner Reviews â–¶
Eugene S | March 31, 2025
The 2014 Chrysler 200 represents Chrysler's attempt to deliver a stylish and competitive mid-size sedan. Available as a four-door sedan, it aimed to blend elegance with affordability. Key trims included the LX, Limited, S, and C. New, the pricing ranged roughly from $22,000 to $27,000. The 200's appeal lay in its sleek design and available V6 engine, offering a more powerful alternative to many competitors in its class. It was intended to offer a sophisticated alternative within its segment.
The Good

The 2014 Chrysler 200 offers a striking design that appeals emotionally. The available V6 provides strong performance. For practical buyers, it presents a relatively affordable price point. The interior can be comfortable, especially in higher trims. It offers reasonable fuel efficiency with the four-cylinder engine, and represents a good value proposition for buyers seeking a stylish mid-size sedan on a budget.

The Bad

The 2014 Chrysler 200 has some known weaknesses. Reliability can be a concern, with reports of transmission issues. The rear seat can feel cramped for taller passengers. Some interior materials feel cheap. Handling isn't as sporty or refined as some competitors. Potential buyers should have a thorough inspection done before purchasing, paying close attention to the transmission.

What Problems Does the 2014 Chrysler 200 Have?

The 2014 Chrysler 200 has faced several frequently reported problems that potential buyers should be aware of. Transmission issues are a significant concern, with many owners reporting harsh shifting, slipping, and even complete transmission failure, especially in the early production models. Electrical problems, including issues with the infotainment system and various sensors, have also been reported. Some owners have experienced issues with the engine stalling or running roughly. Premature wear of brake components is another common complaint.
Several recalls have been issued for the 2014 Chrysler 200, addressing issues such as faulty airbags, potential fuel leaks, and problems with the electronic stability control system. These recalls highlight potential safety concerns and underscore the importance of checking if all recall repairs have been performed on any used 200 being considered. Long-term reliability is a definite concern, with the transmission being the most significant point of failure. Corrosion can also be a factor in colder climates, affecting underbody components and potentially leading to electrical issues. The 2015 model year saw some improvements, but the 2014 model remains the most problematic. It is essential to have a thorough pre-purchase inspection performed by a qualified mechanic before buying a 2014 Chrysler 200.

How long will the 2014 Chrysler 200 last?

With proper maintenance, a 2014 Chrysler 200 can potentially reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles or provide 10-12 years of service. However, this is highly dependent on diligent maintenance, particularly regarding transmission servicing. The 9-speed automatic transmission is a known weak point and requires regular fluid changes to prevent premature failure. Other areas of concern for long-term durability include potential rust in regions with harsh winters, electrical system gremlins, and wear and tear on suspension components. Neglecting maintenance will significantly shorten the vehicle's lifespan, while proactive care can extend it.

I haven't had a newer car since 2008. I was driving a very unreliable vehicle. I have always loved and wanted a Chrysler 200. It is wonderful.

This started out good when we bought it it has 60,000 miles on it ran great no problems as soon as you hit 110,000 miles. It went to xxxx struts went bad. He had to manually unlocked the gear shifter now the car won’t shut off when you shut the key off everything turns off at the car keeps running, the radio quit working it still rides. Nice sort of it runs good still electrically it’s a xxx.

I have had the 200 for a little over 3 years. Bought with 50k miles on and currently have 155k. Reasonable gas mileage and now it’s at the point where things are going to need replacement. I don’t mind the engine or suspension repairs it’s expected for the mileage but there are now items literally just started falling apart. Weird things that I have never seen in any car that I have owned. Leather started peeling off both doors. Both the washer fluid nozzles snapped off inside the supply line. Wheel stud snapped driving down a freshly paved road.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2014 Chrysler 200 offered a reasonable array of tech, entertainment, and safety features for its time, although it wasn't cutting-edge. Standard features included a basic audio system, and available upgrades included a larger touchscreen display (typically 5-inch or 8.4-inch Uconnect system), Bluetooth connectivity, and satellite radio. Higher trims offered premium audio systems. Driver-assistance features were available, but not standard on lower trims. These included features like blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-path detection, and adaptive cruise control. These were optional features. The rearview camera was also available, usually on higher trims.
Safety features included standard antilock brakes, stability control, and a suite of airbags. Optional safety features included lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and automatic high beams. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) gave the 2014 Chrysler 200 a 5-star overall safety rating. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) gave it mixed ratings; while it performed well in some tests, it received a "Marginal" rating in the small overlap front crash test. This is an important factor to consider when evaluating its safety. The available Uconnect system was generally well-received for its ease of use, but could sometimes be slow to respond.

2014 Chrysler 200 Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2014 Chrysler 200 ranged from approximately $22,000 for the base LX model to around $27,000 for the fully equipped C trim. As a used vehicle, prices vary significantly based on condition, mileage, and trim level. Expect to find them ranging from $5,000 to $10,000, or possibly even lower for higher mileage examples needing work. The 200 has experienced substantial depreciation due to its reliability concerns and relatively short production run. Factors affecting resale value include the presence of the V6 engine (more desirable), a clean accident history, and documented maintenance records. Higher trims like the "S" or "C" may hold slightly better value.

2014 Chrysler 200 Cost of Ownership

The 2014 Chrysler 200 can be moderately costly to own in the long run, primarily due to potential repair expenses. Insurance costs are average for its class. Fuel costs are reasonable, especially with the 4-cylinder engine, though the V6 will naturally consume more fuel. Routine maintenance like oil changes and tire rotations are standard. However, potential transmission repairs and other component failures can significantly increase long-term ownership costs. Budgeting for unexpected repairs is essential when considering this vehicle.

2014 Chrysler 200 Insurance

Insurance for a 2014 Chrysler 200 is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Convertible with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2014 Chrysler 200 Compare to Other Convertible?

Compared to its rivals in the mid-size sedan class like the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Ford Fusion, and Mazda 6, the 2014 Chrysler 200 falls short in several key areas. While the 200 boasts a stylish design and an available powerful V6 engine, its reliability and resale value lag behind the competition. The Accord and Camry are known for their exceptional reliability and strong resale values, making them more practical choices for many buyers. The Ford Fusion offers a more refined driving experience and a wider range of engine options, including fuel-efficient hybrids. The Mazda 6 provides a sportier driving experience. In terms of price, the 200 might be slightly more affordable on the used market, but the potential for costly repairs could negate those savings.
Alternatives to the 2014 Chrysler 200 include the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Mazda 6, and Ford Fusion. If reliability is a top priority, the Accord and Camry are significantly better choices. If a sportier driving experience is desired, the Mazda 6 is a compelling alternative. The Ford Fusion offers a good balance of features and performance. While the Chrysler 200 might appeal to buyers seeking a stylish and affordable option, its reliability concerns make it a riskier purchase compared to its rivals.

Final Verdict: Is the 2014 Chrysler 200 a Good Convertible?

The 2014 Chrysler 200 might appeal to budget-conscious buyers prioritizing style and available V6 power over long-term reliability. However, it's generally not recommended unless purchased at a significantly discounted price and with a thorough pre-purchase inspection. It's best suited for buyers who understand the potential risks and are prepared for potential repairs. If considering a purchase, opt for a later production model (late 2014) and prioritize well-maintained examples with complete service records. Given the availability of more reliable and well-rounded alternatives, exploring options like the Honda Accord or Toyota Camry is generally a wiser decision. Purchasing new is not an option as production ceased. Lower trims are not recommended, as they lack key features. The S trim offers the best value.

I think 2011 through 2014 is the same body style my car

I think 2011 through 2014 is the same body style my car is a 2013 I absolutely love it it's never let me down I have $405,000 miles on it it has the four-cylinder which this editor found short of horsepower but I have plenty of horsepower I think to get up and go is superb with my 4 cylinder 2.4 and 6-speed automatic transmission I have topped the car out and it will go as fast as speedometer says and I enjoy the gas mileage of between 31 and 42 miles a gallon, the only thing I will say is this body style does not throw enough Heat on the passenger side so if you have kids or passengers this is not the care for you my car is a work car I drive back for it to work or anywhere else but I do not drive passengers in it in the winter I would recommend a 12-volt heater for the passenger side in the winter because of the design

Get it cheap

I had a 2014 chrysler 200. I was able to score it pretty cheap. I drove it for 100k miles. It was nice until about the 120k miles. Then it started nickle and diming me. The bearings had to get replaced more than once. The throttle control light came on randomly and caused the car issues. Id just start the car back up and it go away the mechanic couldn't figure out why it was doing that. I finally got a new throttle body but that didn't fix it. My cars transmission finally died at 150k miles. Overall worth it to me just because the car was so cheap. Wouldnt spend a lot on one.

Fantastic well built machine.

I have owned this car for 5 years and have had it in the shop once for a broken heater switch total cost $135,00. Regular maintenance is why we have had a good time with the car. It's a great handling and fast car that is fun to drive. Get your own 200 Chrysler and get a fuel efficient solution to today's high gas costs. The motor is bullet proof and I expect it to be running atleast 300,000 miles.

Worth owning.

I love the style and design of the car. I have the 6 cylinder and it performs great. Plenty of power for a smaller vehicle and has been reliable 80000 miles in. Could do a little better on gas, but overall very pleased.

Beautiful, comfortable, and an engineering nightm

We have a Chrysler 200 hardtop convertible. The car is beautiful to look at and comfortable to sit in, but it handles like a large boat. The car is much too oversized for the interior compartment. The Mechanism for the hardtop convertible makes it incredibly back heavy and the negates the front wheel drive characteristics of good handling. The windows squeak when you put them up or down. They have been greased numerous times over the life of the car but after about three or four months the squeak is back.
