Rating: 4.37

Cathleen V | March 31, 2025
The 2010 Honda Fit is a subcompact hatchback known for its incredible versatility and fuel efficiency. Part of the second generation (2009-2013), it continued the Fit's reputation for maximizing interior space. Key trims included the base and Sport, with a pricing range typically from $15,000-$17,000 new. Its "magic seat" configuration, allowing for various cargo arrangements, made it exceptionally popular.
The Good

The 2010 Honda Fit excels in practicality, offering exceptional cargo space and fuel efficiency appealing to budget-conscious buyers. Its nimble handling and surprisingly peppy engine make it fun to drive, satisfying those seeking a bit of excitement. Honda's renowned reliability further enhances its value proposition, providing peace of mind.

The Bad

The 2010 Honda Fit's weaknesses include a somewhat stiff ride, especially on rough roads. The base model can feel sparsely equipped. Some owners have reported issues with the air conditioning compressor. Rust can be a concern in regions with heavy road salt use, so inspect the undercarriage carefully.

What Problems Does the 2010 Honda Fit Have?

The 2010 Honda Fit generally enjoys good reliability, but some common issues have been reported. One frequently cited problem involves the air conditioning compressor failing prematurely. This can be an expensive repair. Some owners have also reported issues with the paint, particularly with chipping and fading, especially in sunny climates. Rust can develop, particularly in areas that use road salt.

Recalls for the 2010 Honda Fit have included issues related to the power window master switch, which could potentially short circuit and cause a fire, and potential issues with the fuel pump. It's crucial to check the vehicle's VIN for any outstanding recalls before purchasing.

Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around normal wear and tear items, like brakes and suspension components. However, the air conditioning and potential rust issues are things to carefully inspect before buying a used model. Regular maintenance, including timely oil changes and fluid checks, is crucial for maximizing the lifespan of the engine and transmission. The 2009-2013 models share similar reliability profiles.

How long will the 2010 Honda Fit last?

With good maintenance, a 2010 Honda Fit can easily exceed 200,000 miles. Many owners report getting 10-15 years of service from their Fits. Long-term durability hinges on diligent maintenance, including regular oil changes, timely fluid replacements, and addressing minor issues promptly. Weaknesses over time include potential rust in colder climates, wear and tear on suspension components, and the aforementioned A/C compressor issues. Ignoring these potential issues can significantly shorten the vehicle's lifespan.

I did a lot of research before buying this car. It had good ratings and I have not been dissapiointed. I have been driving it for 12 yrs now and it has been a reliable and fun ride. I have moved lots of family and it has been a workhorse. You can fit everything in a fit.
Bonnie
I just love the car. It is my favorite of all I have owned. The mileage is great. It is comfortable, practical, and sporty. It also takes kvery little care.
Marie
Just recently purchased this car but I have already fallen in love with it. The whole design of the car and the crazy amount of space in the back with the capability to put the backseat down is amazing. Great car so far!
Negative Owner Reviews

ok to average car. Very reliable but underpowered but responsive ! interior falling apart and not comfortable!
Small Car Enthusiast
I enjoy driving small cars and have owned an MG Midget, 76 Ford Pinto (98K miles), Ford Fiesta, Dodge Colt, Mercury Tracer and the Honda Fit without a doubt has the worst ride, least power, most road noise and worst handling at highway speeds of any of the cars I have ever owned. I am so disappointed in this car that I am in the process of trading it in for a Toyota Corolla. To make matters even worse, Honda Dealer Service is hideous and the Maintenance Minder system on Honda cars is nothing short of a license to steal. No matter what the code is, you will pay at least $100.
Honda customer for 18 years
Bought Fit after 18 years of driving Honda Accord and am very dissapointed. Comfort level of the driver's seat is substandard. My neck and back are strained. No features can make up for the lack of comfort. Deeply regret that I did not go for Nissan Versa.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2010 Honda Fit's built-in tech was fairly basic for its time. The base model offered a CD player with MP3 compatibility and an auxiliary audio input. The Sport trim added a USB input and steering wheel-mounted audio controls. Navigation was not a factory option. There were no advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) available.

Safety features included Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with traction control, anti-lock braking system (ABS), dual front airbags, front side airbags, and side curtain airbags.

Crash-test ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the 2010 Honda Fit a "Good" rating in frontal offset and side impact tests. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave it 4 out of 5 stars for overall safety. It's important to note that crash test methodologies have evolved over time, so these ratings should be viewed in the context of their era. The lack of modern safety tech is a point to consider when comparing it to newer vehicles.

2010 Honda Fit Insurance

Insurance for a 2010 Honda Fit is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2010 Honda Fit Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2010 Honda Fit's key rivals included the Toyota Yaris, Nissan Versa, and Kia Rio. Compared to the Yaris, the Fit offered more interior space and a more versatile cargo area thanks to its "magic seat". While the Versa offered a lower price point, the Fit boasted superior handling and a more refined interior. The Kia Rio was a budget-friendly option, but the Fit held a significant edge in reliability and resale value.

In terms of performance, the Fit was generally considered more engaging to drive than its competitors. Feature-wise, it offered a competitive set of standard equipment for its class. While the Scion xB offered a similar boxy shape and cargo capacity, its fuel economy was significantly worse.

Alternatives to consider include the Mazda2 (for a more sporty driving experience) and a slightly newer Honda Civic (if looking for more space and features while staying within the Honda brand). However, for maximizing space and fuel efficiency in a small package, the 2010 Honda Fit remains a strong contender. If budget is a primary concern, the Nissan Versa might be a suitable alternative, but be prepared to sacrifice some driving enjoyment and refinement.

Ranks #60 Hatchback

Final Verdict: Is the 2010 Honda Fit a Good Sedan?

The 2010 Honda Fit is an excellent choice for city dwellers, first-time car buyers, or anyone seeking a fuel-efficient and versatile vehicle on a budget. It's worth buying, especially on the used market, if it has been well-maintained and has a clean title. The Sport trim offers more desirable features like cruise control and a USB input. Avoid models with significant rust or signs of neglect. It excels as a practical and reliable daily driver, but it's not ideal for those prioritizing a luxurious ride or towing capabilities. Getting a pre-purchase inspection is highly recommended.

An awesome vehicle !

I am 62 years old and have owned many vehicles. This is by far the best car I have ever owned. It has about 151,000 miles on it, and it still runs great. Zero mechanical problems so far.

Terrific value.

We bought our 2010 new and sold it today. 13 years and 171000 miles of reliability and great driving. The strengths are the utility and gas mileage and reliability. The weaknesses are the small battery (New England winters!) the AC is weak on a 95 degree day, and the rear hatch latch is always rusting up. An extremely well engineering and constructed machine. We sold it to my sister and I am sure it will give her several more years of good service.

Very smooth and great on gas!

Just recently purchased this car but I have already fallen in love with it. The whole design of the car and the crazy amount of space in the back with the capability to put the backseat down is amazing. Great car so far!

Fun, fit, and lean

I've owned this car for nine years and am selling it because I bought an electric car. I had bought the Fit because it was the most efficient gas powered car that wasn't a hybrid. I drive mostly on the highway and it didn't make sense to get a hybrid. This car handles great: very zippy, great response. It's a four cylinder so it didn't rocket down the highway, but I didn't need it to. Kind of noisy, and small, but for a small get it holds a lot. Rear seats fold down, and also UP, so I was able to move my three foot houseplant without destroying it. I will miss this little golf ball on wheels.

Most Reliable car i have ever owned

This car does what it says it does. Very reliable and fuel efficient. Not the sexiest car, but the decreased fuel cost and reliability make up for it.

Great value for useful basic transportation

My Fit Sport is one of the most useful vehicles in its price range. It's noisy on the highway, with mainly road/tire noise, and has a stiff suspension, but it gets around 40 mpg at a steady 70 mph with the automatic transmission. Around-town, mainly urban mileage is 26-30 mpg. The engine is responsive but is down on horsepower and torque. It's adequate around town, but merging onto a highway (especially on an upgrade), or passing on a two-lane road takes careful planning. Mechanically, it's been absolutely trouble free for 109,000 miles. Front pads and rotors were replaced preventatively at 90,000 miles, and it's on its second set of tires that have another 20,000 or more miles to go. It has no rattles or squeaks and feels almost as tight as when I bought it 9 years ago. It consumes no oil between changes (it gets new synthetic oil and filter every 5,000 miles). Other than tires and front brakes and one battery replacement, it's had no repairs. It has no leaks of any kind, engine or body. A special strength of this vehicle is its flexible rear seating system, which makes the space available for hauling much larger than it appears from the outside. It has more useful hauling space than several small to midsize SUVs. Overall, this has been an excellent vehicle since new. Its major flaws - lack of power and road noise - I knew about when I bought it, and these have been acceptable trade-offs for the new purchase price and bulletproof reliability. It continues to serve its purpose as a daily commuter vehicle with exceptional cargo capacity, without fail.

GREAT car!

My hubby drives this car for his Seattle sales route. Great fuel economy, can part is tight spaces and can carry a lot of wine when he has to make a special delivery. Super reliable, never had a problem with it at all. He's still driving it.
