The 2007 Honda Fit, introduced as Honda's entry into the subcompact hatchback segment, quickly gained popularity for its surprising practicality and fuel efficiency. This first-generation Fit (2007-2008 in the US) offered remarkable cargo space thanks to its "Magic Seat" system. Key trims included the base and Sport models. The original MSRP ranged from around $13,000 to $15,000. Its clever packaging and fuel economy were major selling points.
The Good

The 2007 Honda Fit excels in fuel efficiency, making it a practical choice for budget-conscious buyers. Its surprisingly peppy performance and nimble handling offer an enjoyable driving experience. Renowned Honda reliability provides peace of mind. The innovative "Magic Seat" system offers unmatched versatility for its class, appealing to those needing cargo space. It’s a fun and functional small car.

The Bad

The 2007 Honda Fit's weaknesses include a somewhat stiff ride, especially on rough roads. Road noise can be noticeable at higher speeds. The rear drum brakes are less sophisticated than disc brakes. Some owners have reported issues with the AC compressor and ignition coils. Rust can be a concern in areas with harsh winters; inspect carefully.

What Problems Does the 2007 Honda Fit Have?

The 2007 Honda Fit generally enjoys a reputation for reliability, but some common issues have been reported. One prevalent concern involves the AC compressor, which can fail prematurely, requiring expensive repairs. Ignition coil failures are also relatively common, leading to rough idling and reduced engine performance. Some owners have reported issues with paint chipping or peeling, particularly on darker colors.

Rust can be a problem, especially in regions with road salt. Check the undercarriage, wheel wells, and door seams for corrosion.

While there weren't major widespread recalls for the 2007 model specifically, it's crucial to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any applicable recalls related to safety or emissions that may have been issued. Some earlier model years (like 2007) have had complaints related to the power windows and door locks malfunctioning. Transmission issues are less frequent but can occur at higher mileages, especially with the automatic transmission. Regular maintenance, including fluid changes, is crucial to mitigate potential problems and maintain the vehicle's long-term reliability.

How long will the 2007 Honda Fit last?

A well-maintained 2007 Honda Fit can easily reach 200,000 miles or more. With regular oil changes, timely servicing of wear items (brakes, tires, belts), and addressing minor issues promptly, owners often report 15-20 years of service. However, potential long-term weaknesses include rust (especially in colder climates), gradual degradation of suspension components (struts, bushings), and potential AC compressor failure. The engine and transmission are generally robust if maintained correctly. Watch for coolant leaks as the car ages. Preventative maintenance is key to maximizing longevity.

The most reliable car that I have ever own it has 109000k miles and runs perfect, never had a mechanical problems, is rummy inside for fitting things and also has leg and head room. The sits folds giving you lots of space. Is just a GREAT car.
Manual Driver - With 14-year-old Fit (only owner!)
I am 75 years old and I have been driving since I was 15. I purchased my 2007 Honda Fit when they first became available. I still drive that car (October, 2023) and I still love it dearly. I have been keeping track of my mlleage since I purchased the car and it has had an average mpg of at least 32 and as high as 36 in town!

Sits way to low to the ground. Bottoms out @ potholes. Bumper constantly scrapes in parking lot barriers. Needs to be about 6 to 8 inches higher.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2007 Honda Fit's built-in tech was basic but functional for its time. Standard features included an AM/FM/CD stereo with an auxiliary input jack. The Sport trim added an upgraded stereo system with tweeters and steering wheel-mounted audio controls. A navigation system was an optional upgrade on the Sport trim.

Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern vehicles. It came standard with anti-lock brakes (ABS) and lacked features like blind-spot monitoring or lane departure warning. Safety features included front airbags and side airbags, which were standard.

Crash-test ratings were generally favorable. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) awarded the 2007 Honda Fit four stars for frontal crash protection (driver and passenger) and five stars for side-impact protection. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) gave the Fit a "Good" rating in its moderate overlap front crash test and side impact test. Its structural design contributed to its safety performance.

While the tech might seem dated now, the focus was on essential safety and a reasonably enjoyable audio experience. The optional navigation on the Sport trim was a noteworthy feature for its era.

2007 Honda Fit Prices and Market Value

The 2007 Honda Fit had a starting MSRP of around $13,000 to $15,000 when new, depending on the trim level and options. Currently, used market prices range from approximately $3,000 to $7,000, depending on condition, mileage, and location. The Fit has depreciated significantly over the years, but its reputation for reliability and fuel efficiency has helped it retain some value.

Factors affecting resale value include overall condition, mileage, service history, location, and whether it's a base or Sport model. Well-maintained examples with lower mileage command higher prices. Rust-free cars are also more desirable, especially in northern states.

2007 Honda Fit Cost of Ownership

The 2007 Honda Fit is generally considered an economical car to own. Insurance costs are typically low due to its size and safety ratings. Fuel economy is excellent, saving money at the pump. Routine maintenance is affordable, and parts are readily available. While some repairs (like AC compressor replacement) can be costly, overall long-term ownership costs are reasonable due to Honda's reliability. It presents a budget-friendly option for cost-conscious buyers.

Insurance for a 2007 Honda Fit is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Hatchback with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2007 Honda Fit Compare to Other Hatchback?

The 2007 Honda Fit competed with vehicles like the Toyota Yaris, Nissan Versa, and Kia Rio. In terms of performance, the Fit offered a more engaging driving experience than the Versa and Rio, though the Yaris was similarly nimble. The Fit’s "Magic Seat" system provided significantly more cargo versatility than its rivals. Reliability-wise, the Fit and Yaris were generally considered more dependable than the Versa and Rio, although all are relatively reliable.

Feature-wise, the Fit offered a comparable level of standard equipment to its competitors. However, the optional navigation system on the Sport trim gave it a slight edge. Pricewise, the Fit was often slightly more expensive than the Versa and Rio, but its superior practicality and driving dynamics justified the higher cost for many buyers.

Alternatives to the 2007 Honda Fit include the Toyota Yaris for its strong reliability and the Scion xB (if more cargo space is desired, but at the cost of fuel efficiency). Overall, the 2007 Honda Fit presents a very compelling offering with its fuel efficiency, versatility, and reliability. The Yaris is a very similar alternative with similar strengths.

Final Verdict: Is the 2007 Honda Fit a Good Hatchback?

The 2007 Honda Fit is an excellent choice for budget-conscious buyers seeking a fuel-efficient, practical, and reliable subcompact car. It's ideal for urban dwellers, students, or anyone needing versatile cargo space in a small package. It's worth buying, especially on the used market, provided it has been well-maintained and has a clean history. A Sport trim offers slightly enhanced features and aesthetics, but the base model is also a solid value. Before buying, have a mechanic inspect it for potential AC compressor issues, rust, and other common problems. Prioritize models with complete service records.

Great MPG, great little car

I bought this car new and drove it for 13 years and 228,000 miles. Great commuter car, and it fit me just fine (I'm 6'3"). The seating flexibility was awesome. I sold the car to a coworker. The only two complaints I ever had was that the radio face burned in the sun and was unreadable, and Honda wouldn't work with me on the terrible paint fade; some panels were like new, and some were faded from original red to a hue of pink or white.

From Civic to Fit

I've had Honda Civics and have loved them. When I needed a new car, I found this used Honda Fit which had low mileage and was selling for a very fair price so I couldn't pass it up. I am so glad I got this car! It is very comfortable and feels very safe. It is very roomy and handles very well. I am very happy with this car!

Fit 2007 192k miles, 25 mpg! Very reliable. Quick.

Change the trans oil at 70k. Regular oil changes every 3k miles. Honda oil is preferred. This little sports car will go 300k lifetime. V-tech engine preferred. Lift up back seats. SUV space. Great ac. Not good going uphill. Safe to buy used.

owned it 11yrs

I love the car taken it on MANY road trips and all I've done is routine maintenance I refuse to get rid of it cause of how good its been she's not as comfortable as a luxury car but she's xxxx near close, a true drivers car with very little limitations for the price she had 7000 miles when I bought her and now she has 134,000 currently. I recommend the sport with dual clutch transmission for city a MUST MUST MUST buy

A very reliable car, just not super comfortable

The car has met my needs. It is fun to drive and excellent in snow. The legroom is good, with excellent headroom ( I am 6'-2ΓƒΒ’Γ’β€šΒ¬Γ‚Β tall). However the steering wheel doesn't adjust front to back. There is not a lot of leg support in the seats so not great for trips longer than 2 hours. The mechanical reliability has been excellent. The car was purchased with 37,000 miles on the odometer and is at 160,000 miles now with no major repairs required.
