The 2013 Honda Fit is a subcompact hatchback known for its exceptional versatility and fuel efficiency. Part of the second generation (2009-2013), it offers a surprisingly spacious interior thanks to its "Magic Seat" configuration. Key trims include the base and Sport. New, the price ranged approximately from $15,500 to $17,500. Its clever design and practicality made it popular among city dwellers and budget-conscious buyers.
The Good

The 2013 Honda Fit boasts excellent fuel efficiency and renowned Honda reliability, appealing to practical buyers. Its surprisingly spacious and versatile interior with the "Magic Seat" system provides unmatched utility. The Fit's nimble handling and fun-to-drive nature also add an emotional element for those seeking an engaging driving experience, all at an affordable price point.

The Bad

Weaknesses of the 2013 Honda Fit include a somewhat noisy cabin, especially at highway speeds. The ride can be firm, and the interior materials are basic. Some owners have reported issues with premature brake wear and potential AC compressor problems. Rust can be a concern in areas with heavy road salt use.

What Problems Does the 2013 Honda Fit Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2013 Honda Fit include issues with the air conditioning compressor, which can fail prematurely. Brake wear, particularly on the front brakes, tends to be faster than average for this class of vehicle. Some owners have reported paint chipping or fading, especially in areas with harsh weather conditions. Rust can be a concern, particularly in regions where road salt is used extensively.

Recalls for the 2013 Honda Fit have included issues related to the fuel pump, which could potentially fail and cause the engine to stall. There have also been recalls related to the airbag inflators, part of the Takata airbag recall affecting numerous manufacturers.

Long-term reliability concerns often center around the longevity of the air conditioning system and potential for rust. While Honda vehicles are generally known for their reliability, the Fit, being a more budget-oriented model, can exhibit some of these issues over time. Regular maintenance and addressing any minor issues promptly can help to mitigate these concerns and extend the vehicle's lifespan. Checking the vehicle's history for completed recall repairs is also crucial when considering a used 2013 Honda Fit.

How long will the 2013 Honda Fit last?

With consistent maintenance, a 2013 Honda Fit can easily reach 200,000 miles or more. Many owners report exceeding this milestone with proper care. Expect 10-15 years of service. Long-term durability strengths include the reliable engine and transmission. Weaknesses may emerge in the form of rust (especially in colder climates), wear on suspension components, and potential AC compressor failure. Careful attention to fluid changes and regular inspections can significantly extend the lifespan and reliability of the vehicle.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2013 Honda Fit offers a relatively basic tech and entertainment suite, reflecting its focus on affordability. Standard features include a four-speaker audio system with a CD player and auxiliary audio jack. The Sport trim adds a six-speaker system and a USB audio interface. Bluetooth connectivity was not standard on the base model. There are no advanced driver-assistance systems like lane departure warning or automatic emergency braking.

Safety features include standard anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic brake distribution (EBD), and vehicle stability assist (VSA). Side curtain airbags and front-seat side airbags are also standard.

Crash-test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) give the 2013 Honda Fit an overall score of four out of five stars. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave it a "Good" rating in most crash tests. While the Fit lacks modern driver-assistance features, its standard safety equipment and respectable crash-test performance provide a reasonable level of protection. Optional features were limited, primarily focusing on accessories like floor mats or cargo organizers.

Currently, used market prices typically range from $7,000 to $12,000, contingent on mileage, condition, and location. The Fit depreciates moderately well, retaining value due to its reliability and fuel efficiency. Low mileage, a clean title, and a well-maintained service history all positively influence resale value. Color can also play a role, with more popular colors fetching slightly higher prices.

2013 Honda Fit Insurance

Insurance for a 2013 Honda Fit is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Hatchback with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2013 Honda Fit Compare to Other Hatchback?

The 2013 Honda Fit competes with vehicles like the Toyota Yaris, Nissan Versa, Ford Fiesta, and Kia Rio. In terms of performance, the Fit offers slightly more engaging handling than the Yaris and Versa but lags behind the Fiesta's sportier dynamics. Feature-wise, the Fit's "Magic Seat" gives it a significant advantage in cargo versatility. Reliability is a strong suit for both the Fit and Yaris, generally outperforming the Fiesta. The Versa offers a lower price point but sacrifices driving experience and features. The Kia Rio provides a more modern interior and styling.

The Honda Fit is a compelling choice for buyers prioritizing interior space and reliability. The Toyota Yaris is a similarly reliable but less versatile alternative. If a more engaging driving experience is desired, the Ford Fiesta is worth considering, but with potential reliability trade-offs. The Kia Rio offers a good balance of features and value but may not match the Fit's long-term reliability record. Ultimately, the best alternative depends on individual priorities.

Its "Magic Seat" system makes it exceptionally practical for carrying cargo. It's worth buying used, especially if well-maintained with a clear service history. While the base model offers essential features, the Sport trim adds desirable upgrades like alloy wheels and a USB port. Inspect for rust and AC compressor issues before purchasing. Overall, the 2013 Fit offers excellent value and practicality for city dwellers and those needing a small but surprisingly spacious vehicle.

It is now 2024, my Fit is a bought new 2013.

It is now 2024, my Fit is a bought new 2013. Still drives like new. It's a little light, keeps you attentive to the road, the back seats are a little firm, but this car holds everything. All the ways you can configure the interior is amazing. If anyone thinks this car is weak, remember the peak horsepower is 6800 RPM. Run it out and feel the Vtec boost. Heat, A/C, ell that works well. Stereo has good sound, and you can connect iPhone through USB and track and volume is controlled by radio head. Body design still looks modern.

11 years and going strong

Bought my Fit Sport new in 2013 (Ge8). Milano Red with 5 speed auto and paddle shifters. Almost never use paddles but use Sport mode for on ramps and merges sometimes. New it got 28 mpg in City and 45 mph long trips. Now 27-31 mpg in city and 40 mpg long trips Built at Hiroshima plant. It has not been babied but has been well-maintained for 142000 miles. Visibility is great and I tinted the glass when car is new. Interior is well designed, attractive and functional...the only thing I would change would be a bit more color, "lounge mode" on back seats, and a front passenger seat that would fold forward completely flat....I have hauled everything in this car...Gone through 4 sets of front brakes, 2 batteries, put in new spark plugs (1 original plug had lost its electrode!) at 110000 miles and a valve adjustment. Filters, oil, bulbs, transmission fluid refresh, etc...Also then installed Koni SRT orange struts and shocks. At 110k miles rear drum brakes were still at 90% so if anybody is thinking of doing jdm rear disc swap its not necessary. About 7 years ago tpms sensors started to fail but I never bothered to replace them....Total maintenance and repair costs have been .027 cents per mile! It's still tight, no rattles. Its been parked outside most of its life. Clear coat is starting show some wear in small areas. Hit a small deer once. Had headlights polished about 3 years ago. I am a big guy and have taken many long trips in it and no problems with front seat comfort. I have 6 wheels so I run snow tires on the front in winter. I use 205/55/16 tires as it seems to handle and ride a bit better with these slightly bigger tires. I wish Honda still sold them here. I am biased but I feel the 2nd gen Ge8s are the best looking and funnest to drive

2013 Fit: No problems for the first 10 years.

I've had my 2013 Honda Fit Sport for 10 years and I've never had a problem with it. The only annoyance is that it doesn't have a radiator cut-out valve during warmups, which means that it takes forever to warm up. It gets 29 to 30mpg. The Sport has bigger tires and I put on snow tires in the winter and it does great in ice and snow as long as the snow is not too deep.

Warning: Cylinder Blow-Out

My spark plug blew out at 100,000 miles which blew out the cylinder and now the engine has to be replaced (for about $5k-$6k). Apparently a known issue with this vehicle.

Very fun and reliable feeling car!

This is a great car-- the first car I ever bought myself , and I am in love with it. It rides nicely, is very comfortable, runs great, and has the capacity for a lot of cargo space for being a hatchback. It has a bite when you accelerate, but it's easy to get used to. It doesn't like the cold, and has had one instance of not starting when it was outside below zero. Understandable, as most cars would also do that, but I may look into an engine block heater if available! Otherwise, I'm so pleased that this was the car I can claim as my first car purchase!!

Easy to drive, easy to park.

It handles equally well on the freeway and in city traffic. I had a feeling of security while driving it, yet it was fun to drive.

Very Reliable - Excellent Commuter Car!

This car has style but most important: it's highly efficient and makes an excellent commuter car. Fuel economy is outstanding (30 mpg city!) The cargo space this car can create rivals a compact SUV for a much better price!
