The 2019 Nissan Armada is a full-size SUV based on the Nissan Patrol, a globally recognized off-roader. It offers a robust body-on-frame construction. The Armada, available since 2004, comes in various trims including SV, SL, Platinum, and Platinum Reserve. Pricing ranges approximately from $47,000 to $68,000 new. Its spacious interior, powerful V8 engine, and strong towing capacity make it a popular choice for families needing a capable and comfortable SUV. Its relatively lower price point compared to competitors also contributes to its popularity.
The Good

The 2019 Armada boasts a powerful V8 engine providing confident acceleration and towing capability, appealing to those needing a workhorse. Its spacious, comfortable interior and smooth ride enhance family trips. While fuel efficiency isn't its forte, its reliability and lower price point compared to rivals offer excellent value. The Armada's rugged design projects a sense of strength and dependability.

The Bad

The 2019 Armada's weaknesses include its below-average fuel economy, a common trait for large SUVs. The infotainment system, while functional, can feel dated compared to newer rivals. Handling can be cumbersome in tight spaces due to its size. Some owners have reported minor issues with the electronics and interior trim. Potential buyers should have it checked for transmission issues.

What Problems Does the 2019 Nissan Armada Have?

The 2019 Nissan Armada generally enjoys decent reliability. Some owners have reported minor electrical issues, such as problems with the infotainment system or sensors. There have also been occasional complaints about the automatic transmission, including rough shifting or hesitation. It's crucial to ensure the transmission fluid has been changed according to the recommended maintenance schedule. While not widespread, some older Armada models (prior to 2019) have experienced issues with the exhaust manifold. However, this is less commonly reported on the 2019 model. Before purchasing a used 2019 Armada, check the vehicle history report for any past recalls or warranty claims. Specifically, check for recalls related to airbags, braking systems, or fuel systems, though the 2019 model hasn't had many major recalls. Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around proper maintenance. Regular oil changes, fluid checks, and timely replacement of wear items are crucial for maintaining the Armada's reliability. Neglecting maintenance can lead to premature wear and tear on the engine and transmission, potentially resulting in costly repairs.

How long will the 2019 Nissan Armada last?

With proper maintenance, a 2019 Nissan Armada can easily reach 200,000 miles or more, providing 10-15 years of service. Key to its longevity is diligent adherence to the maintenance schedule, especially regarding oil changes and transmission fluid services. Long-term durability depends heavily on climate and driving conditions; harsher environments can accelerate wear and tear. Weaknesses over time might include suspension components, bushings, and potential rust in regions with heavy road salt use. Keeping it garaged and washed regularly will increase longevity.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2019 Nissan Armada features an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, and USB ports. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were not standard for this model year, which is a drawback compared to some competitors. Entertainment options include a Bose premium audio system (available on higher trims) and a rear-seat entertainment system with dual 8-inch monitors (optional).
Driver-assistance features include a standard rearview camera and parking sensors. Higher trims offer blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control. Safety features include standard airbags, anti-lock brakes, and stability control.
The 2019 Armada received good, but not top-tier, crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). It earned four out of five stars overall. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) ratings may vary; check their official website for specific tests performed on the 2019 model. Optional features included a sunroof, power-folding third-row seats, and a tow package. The tech, while functional, felt somewhat dated compared to some rivals even in 2019.

2019 Nissan Armada Prices and Market Value

The 2019 Nissan Armada had a starting MSRP around $47,000, with higher trims reaching upwards of $68,000. Currently, used market prices typically range from $25,000 to $40,000, depending on condition, mileage, and trim level. Depreciation is significant, as expected for a large SUV. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, condition, service history, and trim level. Platinum and Platinum Reserve trims tend to hold their value better due to their added features. Low mileage examples in excellent condition command higher prices.

2019 Nissan Armada Cost of Ownership

The 2019 Nissan Armada is generally considered costly to own. Insurance premiums are moderate to high due to its size and value. Fuel costs are substantial given its poor fuel economy. Maintenance is average, but repairs can be expensive, particularly for the transmission or other major components. Long-term ownership costs, including depreciation, fuel, and potential repairs, make it a less economical choice compared to smaller SUVs or sedans. Budgeting for unforeseen repairs is advisable.

reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2019 Nissan Armada Compare to Other Wagon?

The 2019 Nissan Armada competes with the Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban, Ford Expedition, and Toyota Sequoia. In terms of performance, the Armada's V8 offers competitive power and towing. Feature-wise, it lags behind some rivals, particularly in infotainment technology. Reliability is generally good, similar to the Toyota Sequoia, but potentially better than earlier Ford Expedition models. The Armada's main advantage is its lower price point compared to the Expedition and Sequoia.

The Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban offers a wider range of engine options and more advanced technology. The Ford Expedition provides better fuel economy with its EcoBoost engine. The Toyota Sequoia is known for its bulletproof reliability but has a dated design. If reliability is paramount and budget isn't a concern, the Sequoia is a good alternative. For better fuel economy and modern features, the Expedition is worth considering. If value is the primary concern and you need a powerful SUV with good reliability, the Armada is a strong contender. The Tahoe/Suburban offers a balance of features and performance but often comes at a higher price.

Final Verdict: Is the 2019 Nissan Armada a Good Wagon?

The 2019 Nissan Armada is ideal for families needing a spacious and powerful SUV for towing and hauling, particularly those on a budget. It's worth buying used if you prioritize value and don't require the latest technology. Opting for a higher trim like the SL or Platinum can enhance the ownership experience with added features. A used 2019 Armada offers a compelling alternative to newer, more expensive SUVs. However, be prepared for higher fuel costs and ensure a thorough inspection for any potential transmission issues. If modern tech and fuel economy are crucial, consider alternatives like the Ford Expedition.

Armada owner for 4 years and I love it! It’s a great, reliable vehicle! It has a lot of cargo room for family trips but is great for day to day driving. I love the v8!

2019 Armada Platinum; would totally recommend!

Purchased recently because we needed a bigger car. We looked at Tahoes and Expeditions but we didn't want all the technology that can go wrong. The good about the Armada is that it's very comfortable, heated & cooled seats work great, has plenty of power and a nice V8 grumble, it looks pretty cool, features work well and it's been very reliable so far. The bad is that the power third row takes forever to operate, you can't see anything out of the back at night even with the cameras, the infotainment is pretty dated, steering is vague, and some parts of the interior feel a bit cheap. The gas mileage sucks which is to be expected from a big truck like this but they didn't cut corners with the interior like Ford and GM! MSRP was $66,540 and we got it for half with under 50k miles!

Most powerful car I have ever owned.

This car saved our lives in snow mode in a snow storm. It was bought for towing and the engine is everything we hoped for. A little uncomfortable in the seats, a spring in the bottom seems to hit in the wrong place.

Excellent SUV for family traveling

I've had Ford, Chevy and GMC full size SUV's...this one tops them all. You can get the Infiniti QX80, but this is the same vehicle for less $$.
