The 2014 Nissan Armada is a full-size SUV that shares its robust platform with the Nissan Titan pickup truck. Introduced in 2004, it's known for its spacious interior, powerful V8 engine, and impressive towing capacity. The 2014 model was part of the first generation. Key trims include the SV, SL, and Platinum. Original pricing ranged from approximately $38,000 to $50,000. It stands out due to its truck-like capability combined with SUV comfort, appealing to those needing to haul families and gear.
The Good

The 2014 Armada offers a powerful V8 engine for confident towing and acceleration (performance). Its truck-based construction suggests inherent durability (reliability). A spacious cabin and comfortable seats provide a pleasant ride (comfort). The bold, imposing design conveys a sense of strength (design appealing to emotional buyers). For practical buyers, it provides ample space and robust towing at a competitive price (value).

The Bad

The 2014 Nissan Armada's significant weaknesses include poor fuel economy due to its large engine and heavy weight. The interior design, while spacious, can feel dated compared to newer SUVs. Potential buyers should watch out for signs of rust, particularly in areas with road salt use, and check the transmission for smooth shifting. Suspension components should be inspected for wear and tear.

What Problems Does the 2014 Nissan Armada Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2014 Nissan Armada can include issues with the automatic transmission, such as rough shifting or slipping. Some owners have reported problems with the air conditioning system, particularly the rear climate control. Rust is a potential long-term reliability concern, especially in areas where road salt is used extensively during winter. Examine the undercarriage, body panels (especially around wheel wells), and exhaust system for rust.

While specific recall information should be checked with NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) using the VIN, potential recalls could relate to airbags, fuel systems, or electrical components.

Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the longevity of the transmission and the potential for expensive repairs. Regular maintenance, including fluid changes, is crucial to mitigate these risks. Engine oil leaks and sensor failures are also not uncommon as the vehicle ages. Before purchasing, a thorough inspection by a qualified mechanic is highly recommended to assess the overall condition of the vehicle and identify any potential issues.

How long will the 2014 Nissan Armada last?

With good maintenance, a 2014 Nissan Armada can potentially reach 200,000 miles or more. Many owners report reaching 10-15 years of service with regular upkeep. However, long-term durability hinges on consistent maintenance, including timely oil changes, transmission fluid flushes, and cooling system service. Weaknesses over time often include rust, particularly in colder climates, and potential transmission issues. Suspension components may also require replacement as the vehicle ages. Neglecting maintenance will significantly shorten the lifespan.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2014 Nissan Armada offers a decent array of built-in tech and safety features for its time. Standard features include a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, and Bluetooth connectivity. Higher trims offer upgrades like a navigation system, a Bose audio system, and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system.

Driver-assistance features are relatively limited compared to modern vehicles, but the Platinum trim includes an Around View Monitor (360-degree camera) which is quite useful for parking and maneuvering.

Safety features include standard antilock brakes, stability control, and a full complement of airbags (front, side, and side curtain).

Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) for the 2014 model year should be consulted for specific safety performance data. It's important to note that safety standards and testing methodologies have evolved, so comparing older vehicles to newer ones can be misleading. While the Armada provides a solid structure and basic safety features, it lacks many of the advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) found in contemporary vehicles, such as lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic emergency braking.

2014 Nissan Armada Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2014 Nissan Armada ranged from approximately $38,000 to $50,000, depending on the trim level and options. Current used market prices typically range from $12,000 to $22,000, depending on condition, mileage, and location. The Armada has depreciated significantly due to its age, fuel economy, and the availability of newer, more technologically advanced SUVs. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, maintenance history, mileage, and whether it's a 4WD model (which tends to command a higher price in many regions). Higher trim levels like the Platinum also hold their value slightly better.

2014 Nissan Armada Cost of Ownership

The 2014 Nissan Armada is generally considered costly to own. Insurance premiums are moderate to high due to its size and potential repair costs. Fuel costs are significant due to its poor fuel economy. Maintenance can be average if routine services are followed. However, repairs can be expensive, especially for the transmission or complex systems. Long-term ownership costs can be substantial, particularly if major repairs are needed. Budget accordingly for potential issues when considering purchasing this vehicle.

2014 Nissan Armada Insurance

Insurance for a 2014 Nissan Armada is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Wagon with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2014 Nissan Armada Compare to Other Wagon?

The 2014 Nissan Armada competes with other full-size SUVs like the Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban, Ford Expedition, and Toyota Sequoia. In terms of performance, the Armada's V8 engine is competitive, offering similar power and towing capacity. However, its fuel economy lags behind some rivals. Feature-wise, the Armada offers a comparable range of amenities for its time, but its technology feels dated compared to later models of its competitors.

Reliability is a mixed bag; the Armada can be durable with proper maintenance, but it's not known for exceptional reliability like the Toyota Sequoia. Price-wise, a used 2014 Armada can be attractive due to its lower purchase price compared to some rivals.

Alternatives to consider include:
  • Toyota Sequoia: Known for its reliability and longevity, though potentially more expensive.
  • Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban: Offers a wider range of configurations and potentially better fuel economy, but reliability can be variable.
  • Ford Expedition: Provides a more modern driving experience and better fuel economy with its EcoBoost engine in later model years, but might be pricier.

For someone prioritizing reliability and longevity, the Sequoia might be a better choice, even at a slightly higher price. If budget is a primary concern and the Armada is well-maintained, it could be a viable option, but potential repair costs should be factored into the decision.

Final Verdict: Is the 2014 Nissan Armada a Good Wagon?

The 2014 Nissan Armada is ideal for buyers needing a large, powerful SUV for towing and hauling, and who prioritize space and capability over fuel efficiency and the latest technology. It can be worth buying *used* if you find a well-maintained example at a reasonable price. A thorough pre-purchase inspection is essential.

Consider the SL or Platinum trims for added features like leather and a better sound system. It's *not* ideal for those seeking a fuel-efficient or technologically advanced SUV. If you are budget-conscious but still need the capabilities of a full-size SUV, and understand the trade-offs, then the Armada may be a worthwhile consideration. Be prepared for higher running costs.

Love my new (used) car!

Love my Nissan Armada! The room inside is more than any other big car I have owned. I like all of the features but wish it had a few more that I'm used to having, like seat adjustment memory settings and auto bright lights but the rest of the features are great! I wish it got better gas mileage but I knew it didn't when I bought it. I would definitely recommend this car to anyone who wants a large, full-size car!

Good SUV but needs some improvements

good stable and very comfortable to drive full size SUV. I have a small trailer and the Armada mechanically is not build for towing. I just could hear the engine and the guts screaming at me (the trailer weight was within the allowable towing weight). At about 2 years old, the front windshield started to leak . Driving "lightly", the fuel consumption was reasonable, but if you needed to push it a bit or towing, you could see the gauge just going down from one minute to another. I sold it at 3 years old and lost a lot of money on it. I couldn't recoup any part of the hefty down payment i put in and the next car i had to purchase with no money down. Does not hold its value at all.

It?s relabel, however I have had too many issues f

I love the car and the look, however, I am not pleased with it. I purchased a new car because I did not want any issues with the a vehicle for a very long time. Besides the normal stuff like oil changes etc. within 2 years the automatic lift broke, the battery went out shortly after that and now the heat does not work. On top of that I have a leak on the passenger side, the ceiling leaks whenever it rains hard. I don?t get it and I?m upset that I have all these issues for a 2014 vehicle. It?s just not acceptable!
