The Nissan Armada, a full-size SUV, has been offering rugged capability and family-friendly features for years. The 2023 Armada continues this tradition, sporting a body-on-frame construction. Key trims include S, SV, SL, Platinum, and Midnight Edition. The pricing range typically starts around $50,000 and extends to over $70,000. Its spacious interior, strong V8 engine, and impressive towing capacity make it popular among those needing a capable and comfortable SUV.
The Good

The 2023 Nissan Armada offers strong V8 performance and a comfortable ride, appealing to drivers seeking power and refinement. Its proven reliability offers peace of mind. The Armada provides ample space for passengers and cargo, a practical advantage for families. Its bold design and available luxury features can evoke a sense of pride and accomplishment for the owner.

The Bad

The 2023 Nissan Armada's fuel economy is a known weakness, as its large V8 engine consumes a significant amount of gas. Its size can make it challenging to maneuver in tight spaces. While reliable, some owners have reported minor issues with the infotainment system. The third-row seating, while present, can feel cramped for adults on longer trips.

What Problems Does the 2023 Nissan Armada Have?

While the Nissan Armada is generally considered reliable, some owners have reported issues with the infotainment system, including glitches and slow response times. Transmission issues have been noted, but they are not widespread. Some users have complained about the performance of the climate control system, particularly its ability to cool the cabin effectively in hot weather.

Recalls for the 2023 model have been relatively limited; however, checking the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for the most up-to-date recall information is always recommended. Long-term reliability concerns tend to focus on potential wear and tear on suspension components, given the vehicle's weight and towing capabilities. Earlier model years of the current generation (2017-present) had some reports of issues with the rear automatic braking system and occasional sensor malfunctions, but these issues appear to have been addressed in later models, including the 2023 version. Regular maintenance, including timely fluid changes and inspections, is crucial to maintaining long-term reliability.

How long will the 2023 Nissan Armada last?

With proper maintenance, a 2023 Nissan Armada can realistically provide 200,000 miles or 10-15 years of service. Regular oil changes, transmission fluid flushes, and brake maintenance are crucial. Long-term durability is generally good, with the engine and transmission proving robust. Potential weaknesses over time might include suspension component wear, especially with frequent towing or off-road use. Keeping an eye on cooling system maintenance and addressing any leaks promptly is also important for long-term reliability. The interior materials generally hold up well, but regular cleaning and conditioning can prevent cracking and fading.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2023 Nissan Armada comes standard with a 12.3-inch touchscreen display, offering wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto connectivity. The base model includes Nissan Safety Shield 360, a suite of driver-assistance features such as automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and high beam assist.

Higher trims add features like adaptive cruise control, a surround-view monitor, and traffic sign recognition. Optional features include a rear-seat entertainment system with dual 8-inch monitors. The Armada also features multiple USB ports throughout the cabin for charging devices.

Safety is a priority, and the Armada is built with a strong structure and numerous airbags. While specific 2023 crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA should be verified on their respective websites, previous model years have generally performed well in crash tests. The availability of advanced safety features across all trims makes the Armada a safe choice for families.

2023 Nissan Armada Prices and Market Value

The MSRP for a new 2023 Nissan Armada ranged from approximately $50,000 to over $70,000, depending on the trim level and options. Current used market prices vary based on mileage, condition, and location. Expect to find used 2023 Armadas ranging from the mid $40,000s to the low $60,000s. Depreciation is typical for a full-size SUV, but the Armada's reliability and strong towing capacity help it retain value. Factors affecting resale value include overall condition, service history, and whether it's equipped with popular features like four-wheel drive and premium trim packages.

2023 Nissan Armada Cost of Ownership

The Nissan Armada is generally costly to own due to its poor fuel economy and the higher insurance premiums associated with full-size SUVs. Maintenance costs are average, but repairs can be expensive due to the vehicle's complexity. Fuel costs will be a significant factor, especially for those who drive frequently or tow regularly. Budgeting for tires and brake replacements is important. While not the most economical choice, the Armada's reliability can help mitigate some long-term repair expenses.

How Does the 2023 Nissan Armada Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2023 Nissan Armada competes with other full-size SUVs like the Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban, Ford Expedition, Toyota Sequoia, and GMC Yukon. The Armada offers a strong V8 engine and good towing capacity, similar to its rivals. Its pricing is generally competitive, often undercutting the Ford Expedition and Toyota Sequoia, especially in base trims. Feature-wise, the Armada offers a user-friendly infotainment system and a decent suite of driver-assistance technologies.

However, the Armada's fuel economy lags behind some competitors. The Ford Expedition offers a more refined driving experience and better fuel efficiency with its turbocharged engine. The Toyota Sequoia, recently redesigned, presents a more modern and fuel-efficient alternative, although at a higher price point. The Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban and GMC Yukon offer a wider range of engine options and more cargo space. Depending on priorities, the Ford Expedition or Toyota Sequoia might be considered better alternatives if fuel economy or a more modern design are crucial. The Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban provides better options for cargo space and seating configurations. However, the Armada represents a strong value proposition for those prioritizing power and reliability at a competitive price.

Final Verdict: Is the 2023 Nissan Armada a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2023 Nissan Armada is ideal for families needing a spacious and capable SUV with strong towing ability. It's worth buying if you prioritize a powerful V8 engine, comfortable ride, and competitive pricing. Consider a used model to save on depreciation costs, focusing on examples with well-documented maintenance history. The SL or Platinum trims offer a good balance of features and value. If fuel economy is a top concern, other alternatives might be more suitable. However, for those seeking a reliable and robust full-size SUV without breaking the bank, the Armada remains a solid choice. It provides great value especially for those who need its 8,500 lbs towing capacity.

Great vehicle!

This is our third Armada since 2012. First two were not new and we had great performance out of them. We were fortunate that general maintenance and upkeep was all we ever did to them. I will likely stay in this line as long as it is available. Having a ‘23, I will likely not be looking for a long while.

Platinum armada is my favorite.

Amazing full size suv, spacious, comfortable, filled with technology. My platinum is excellent to travel with 2 small dogs and golf bags. Not fuel efficient for 2023 gas prices. Well, will keep my amazing toy no matter the gas price. As a Nissan employee lease member, we try and change cars every 7 to 9 months, so far the armada is my top 2 behind the Infiniti qx60.
