The 2006 Nissan Armada is a full-size SUV, part of the first generation (2004-2015). It offers robust capabilities and ample space. Key trims included the SE, LE, and later the SE Off-Road. New, prices ranged from approximately $34,000 to $45,000. Its popularity stemmed from its powerful V8 engine, spacious interior for passengers and cargo, and impressive towing capacity, making it a strong choice for families needing a capable SUV. It stands out for its truck-like capabilities in an SUV package.
The Good

The 2006 Nissan Armada offers a powerful V8 engine for strong performance, appealing to those seeking capability. What Problems Does the 2006 Nissan Armada Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2006 Nissan Armada include issues with the exhaust manifolds, which can crack and require replacement. The rear auto-leveling suspension is another common trouble spot, with air leaks and compressor failures. Fuel economy is a consistent complaint. Some owners have reported issues with the transmission, including slipping or harsh shifting, particularly at higher mileage. Rust, especially in colder climates, is a potential long-term reliability concern, affecting body panels and undercarriage components.
Recalls for the 2006 Armada were issued for various safety-related issues, including problems with the fuel sending unit and potential for fuel leakage, and issues with the airbags and seatbelt pretensioners. It's crucial to check the vehicle's VIN for any outstanding recalls before purchase. Long-term reliability can be affected by the proper maintenance of these systems, and neglecting them can lead to costly repairs. Early model years (2004-2005) reportedly had more issues with sensors and electrical components than later years.

How long will the 2006 Nissan Armada last?

With proper maintenance, a 2006 Nissan Armada can easily reach 200,000 miles or more. Many owners report getting 15-20 years of service from their Armadas. However, longevity heavily depends on diligent maintenance, including regular oil changes, transmission fluid flushes, and addressing any issues promptly. Common weaknesses over time include rust, particularly in areas with road salt, and potential issues with the suspension, including the auto-leveling system. The exhaust manifolds are also a known weak point. Neglecting these areas can significantly shorten the vehicle's lifespan.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2006 Nissan Armada offered a reasonable array of tech and safety features for its time. Standard tech included an AM/FM radio with a CD player. Higher trims (LE) often included a Bose audio system and optional navigation. A rear-seat DVD entertainment system was also available as an option, appealing to families.
Safety features included standard front airbags, side-impact airbags for the front seats, and anti-lock brakes (ABS). Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) was available, enhancing stability. However, advanced driver-assistance systems like lane departure warning or blind-spot monitoring were not available.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) should be consulted for a detailed safety assessment. These ratings can vary, but generally, the Armada performed reasonably well in frontal crash tests but had some weaknesses in side-impact protection. It's important to note that safety standards have evolved significantly since 2006, so newer vehicles typically offer better safety performance. Optional features such as rear parking sensors made parking easier.

2006 Nissan Armada Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2006 Nissan Armada ranged from around $34,000 to $45,000, depending on the trim level and options. As a used vehicle, prices now range from approximately $4,000 to $10,000+, depending on condition, mileage, and location. The Armada has experienced significant depreciation due to its age, fuel economy, and potential maintenance costs. Resale value is primarily affected by condition, mileage, and history of maintenance. Models with lower mileage, clean titles, and documented maintenance records command higher prices. Demand for large SUVs also influences prices.

2006 Nissan Armada Cost of Ownership

The 2006 Nissan Armada is generally considered costly to own. Insurance premiums can be moderate to high, reflecting its size and potential repair costs. Fuel costs are significant due to its poor fuel economy. Maintenance and repair costs can also be high, especially as the vehicle ages and requires more frequent repairs. Parts may become harder to find and more expensive. Overall, long-term ownership costs can be substantial, making it less economical than smaller or newer vehicles.

2006 Nissan Armada Insurance

Insurance for a 2006 Nissan Armada is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Wagon with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2006 Nissan Armada Compare to Other Wagon?

The 2006 Nissan Armada competed with the Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban, Ford Expedition, and Toyota Sequoia. In terms of performance, the Armada's V8 engine was comparable to its rivals. Feature-wise, it offered a similar level of amenities, although some competitors may have had slightly more advanced technology at the time.
Reliability is where the Armada faced challenges. The Toyota Sequoia generally had a better reputation for long-term reliability. The Tahoe and Expedition had their own sets of common issues. Price-wise, the Armada was often competitively priced, especially in the used market.
Alternatives to consider include the Toyota Sequoia, known for its reliability, and the Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban, which offer a wide range of configurations and a strong aftermarket support. The Ford Expedition is another option, offering similar capabilities. If reliability is a top priority, the Sequoia might be a better choice, even if it costs slightly more. For those seeking a more budget-friendly option, the Tahoe or Expedition could be considered, but careful inspection and maintenance history review are crucial.

Final Verdict: Is the 2006 Nissan Armada a Good Wagon?

The 2006 Nissan Armada is ideal for buyers seeking a large, capable SUV at a budget-friendly price point. It's well-suited for families needing ample passenger and cargo space, as well as those who require significant towing capacity. However, it's only worth buying if you're comfortable with its poor fuel economy and potential maintenance costs. A used Armada is generally the only option, and thorough inspection is critical. Focus on finding a well-maintained example with a clean title and documented service history. Consider the LE trim for added features but prioritize overall condition and maintenance over specific trim levels. Be prepared for potential repairs and higher running costs.

Amazing reliability & comfort

My 2006 Armada LE has been in my stable for 4 years now and has given zero trouble. The odometer is passing 208k miles on the original drive train. It has comfortably travelled the length of America & ventured into Canada. On a trip through Minnesota, I encountered a literal blizzard. I put the vehicle into auto 4wd and never missed a beat. Highly recommend and love this Nissan Armada LE.

Best suv!

This suv has great performance! Has a V8 with the 5.6 L engine in it! Fast, reliable, comfortable, big, roomy, great for the family if u don't want to drive a soccer mom or grandma mini van. Also it has so many more extra, like independent suspension and DVD player with the navigation , a great sound system and plenty more room to add some boom boom speakers in the back if you love you music! Great for road trips with the fam or friends! Just all the way around in and out a excellent suv!

Great Family Vehicles

My parents first bought this vehicle with around 50k miles on the vehicle. Now it has 245k miles. No major breakdowns. If you take care of all your maintenance checks, and oil changes. There's no reason not to be able to get 300k miles out of this vehicle. Since my Ford F-150 broke down after 220k miles. This has been my reliable vehicle to get around.

One of our best purchases

When we bought this car on it's launch year, it blew our mind how it performed in every road terrain. Only problem is fuel which goes away like a tesla accelerating but overall great car for the money. On 4x4 terrains it works amazing and on the highway it's quite quiet when you have it on cruise control. Smooth ride and a overall great car.

Best SUV on the Market

This is BY FAR the best chice we have ever made! Very roomy! Perfect SUV. If u are thinking of buying one,do so,you WILL NOT regret it! BUT BUT BUT! Do not put bigger rims on it. I bought ours used and it came with 22"s. them 22"s suck the gas pretty good, and dents the comfort abit. keep stock rims.

great SUV

I have bought this car for about 1.5 months now, I bought it used, so there are some minor problem such as, small dense, spot on seats and door doesn't shut perfectly and I had to get new battery for it, but I like it so far, plenty of power, pretty roomy, we pull a trailer with three 4-wheeler on and it still have plenty of power. I like it. no major problem yet.

IL, OH, IN, Chicago, you name it, been to every place with this car & still running like a chump, with in 5yr I?ve put up over 95k, no major repair done, just did regular oil changed, only one time replace tire and brake.
