What Problems Does the 2015 Volvo S80 Have?

The 2015 Volvo S80, while generally reliable, has some frequently reported problems. Some owners have experienced issues with the electronic systems, including the infotainment system and various sensors. Specifically, problems with the navigation system and Bluetooth connectivity are sometimes reported. There have been reports of oil leaks, particularly in higher mileage vehicles, so checking the engine regularly is advised.

Regarding recalls, it's essential to check the NHTSA website for any outstanding recalls specific to the VIN of the vehicle in question. Common areas of concern across similar Volvo models include potential issues with the fuel pump relay and the electronic throttle system, although these may not be directly related to the 2015 S80. Long-term reliability concerns tend to revolve around the potential for increased maintenance costs as the vehicle ages, particularly concerning the more complex turbocharged engines and electronic components. Regular maintenance and addressing any issues promptly can mitigate these risks.

How long will the 2015 Volvo S80 last?

With proper maintenance, a 2015 Volvo S80 can easily reach 200,000 miles or more. Many owners report 10-15 years of service. Consistent oil changes, timely replacement of wear items like brakes and tires, and addressing any mechanical or electrical issues promptly are crucial. Long-term durability can be affected by the quality of maintenance performed. Weaknesses over time often include increased wear on suspension components, potential for rust in certain climates, and the possibility of needing to replace electronic components like sensors or the infotainment screen.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2015 Volvo S80 comes equipped with Volvo's Sensus infotainment system, featuring a 7-inch display, Bluetooth connectivity, and available navigation. Entertainment features include a standard sound system with CD player and USB input, with an optional premium sound system available on higher trims.

Driver-assistance and safety features are a highlight, including Volvo's City Safety system (low-speed collision avoidance), anti-lock brakes, stability control, and numerous airbags. Optional driver-assistance features available on higher trims include adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear park assist camera.

Crash-test ratings are generally excellent for the 2015 Volvo S80. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) typically awards the S80 with high marks for safety, and it often receives a Top Safety Pick designation. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) also provides crash test ratings, which should be consulted for specific details.

2015 Volvo S80 Prices and Market Value

The 2015 Volvo S80 had a new MSRP ranging from approximately $41,000 to $47,000 depending on the trim and options. Current used market prices typically range from $12,000 to $20,000, depending on condition, mileage, and location. The S80 has experienced significant depreciation due to its age and the luxury car market trends. Factors affecting resale value include vehicle condition, maintenance history, mileage, trim level (Platinum models tend to hold value better), and geographic location. Vehicles with clean titles and complete service records command higher prices.

2015 Volvo S80 Cost of Ownership

Insurance costs for the 2015 Volvo S80 are generally moderate, aligning with other luxury sedans. Fuel costs depend on driving habits and engine choice; the T5 Drive-E is more economical. Maintenance and repair costs can be higher than average due to the car's European origin and potential for specialized parts and labor. Long-term ownership costs should be factored in, as older luxury vehicles can require more frequent maintenance. Overall, it's not the most economical vehicle to own, but careful maintenance can help manage costs.

Insurance for a 2015 Volvo S80 is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2015 Volvo S80 Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2015 Volvo S80 competes with other mid-size luxury sedans like the Acura TLX, Lexus ES, BMW 5 Series, and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. In terms of performance, the S80's T6 engine is competitive, but the base T5 engine lags behind some rivals. The Lexus ES offers superior reliability, while the BMW 5 Series provides a sportier driving experience. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class generally offers more advanced technology.

The S80's strengths lie in its comfortable ride and focus on safety. The Acura TLX offers similar value and reliability at a comparable price point. If reliability is a top priority, the Lexus ES is a better alternative. For a sportier driving experience, the BMW 5 Series is recommended, albeit at a higher price. Consider the Acura TLX or Lexus ES for similar or potentially better alternatives in terms of overall value and reliability.

Final Verdict: Is the 2015 Volvo S80 a Good Sedan?

The 2015 Volvo S80 is ideal for buyers prioritizing comfort, safety, and understated luxury over sporty handling or cutting-edge technology. It's worth buying as a used vehicle if found in good condition with a well-documented maintenance history. The T6 engine provides better performance, but the T5 Drive-E offers improved fuel economy. Look for higher trims like the Platinum for advanced safety features. A pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic is crucial. Consider it if you value a comfortable and safe sedan with a classic Volvo feel, but be prepared for potentially higher maintenance costs compared to some rivals.

Best overall fit for us

Great performance - turbo/supercharge T6 - perfect comfort balanced with very good handling - just the right amount of space - very good technology. Very sad they discontinued it. S90 too big and costly. S60 not quite big enough.
