The Good
The 2000 CLK-Class offers a smooth and refined ride, a hallmark of Mercedes-Benz, appealing to those seeking comfort. The elegant design and prestigious badge provide emotional satisfaction. Practically, it delivers decent reliability (when properly maintained) and reasonable fuel economy for a luxury coupe/convertible, along with solid value on the used market.
The Bad
Potential weaknesses of the 2000 CLK-Class include potential issues with the electrical system, particularly related to sensors and modules. Suspension components, like ball joints and bushings, can wear out over time. Oil leaks are not uncommon, especially from the valve cover gaskets. Rust can also be a concern in regions with harsh winters or salty air.

What Problems Does the 2000 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class Have?
Recalls for the 2000 CLK-Class (and surrounding years) have addressed issues such as potential fuel leaks and problems with the supplemental restraint system (SRS). It's important to check the vehicle's VIN with the NHTSA database to ensure all applicable recalls have been addressed. Long-term reliability hinges heavily on consistent maintenance. Neglecting fluid changes, addressing minor repairs promptly, and protecting against rust can significantly extend the lifespan. Early models (1998-1999) might have more electrical gremlins compared to the 2000 model year due to initial production issues that were later resolved. Transmission issues, while not exceedingly common, can occur, especially if the transmission fluid wasn't regularly changed.
How long will the 2000 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Entertainment: An optional Bose sound system provided enhanced audio quality. Some models were equipped with a trunk-mounted CD changer.
Driver-Assistance: Features were limited compared to modern cars. Standard equipment included cruise control and anti-lock brakes (ABS). Traction control (ASR) helped prevent wheel spin.
Safety Features: Dual front airbags and side airbags were standard. Electronic Stability Program (ESP) was available as an option. The car featured crumple zones designed to absorb impact energy.
Optional Features: Options included heated seats, a sunroof, upgraded leather upholstery, and various wheel styles. A telephone system was also available.
Crash-Test Ratings: The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) crash test ratings for the 2000 CLK-Class are available online. While performance was good for its time, modern vehicles offer significantly improved safety technologies. The CLK received good marks in frontal crash tests but side impact results were more marginal.

How Does the 2000 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class Compare to Other Convertible?
In terms of performance, the CLK430's V8 delivered strong acceleration, comparable to its rivals' V8 options. Feature-wise, the CLK was competitive for its time. Reliability is where the CLK falls slightly short compared to the Lexus. Pricing on the used market is generally similar among these competitors.
Alternatives to the CLK include the BMW E46 3 Series Coupe (for sportier handling), the Lexus SC300/SC400 (for superior reliability), or a newer, more modern coupe or convertible if budget allows and if modern features and enhanced safety are a priority. A well-maintained Acura TL of similar vintage could offer more reliability for the price, sacrificing some luxury appeal.

Fun. Sporty. Powerful.Good car. Everything worked when it was needed. Back leg room is not very good but driver and passenger seats are very comfortable. Really fun car to drive around especially in the summer. Tons of computers help to keep maintenance on track.

Reliable, powerful and comfort vehicleThis car represents those times when Germans built strong reliable products. It has powerful and reliable m113 V8 engine, very comfortable seats. It looks much more expensive than it's market price.

Fast, comfortable, safe. This car is not only stylish and comfortable, it also has some great power behind it! It's a heavy car so if it were to wreck, you'd probably come out alive. The v8 power allows this thing to have the pick up and go that you need when getting on the highway or passing slow-pokes. Being that it's a coup, the back seats dont have the greatest amount of space, but far more than some other coups I've seen. The only real downside is that it is mercedes, so its parts are more expensive than American companies.

ExcellentI bought my 2000 CLK320 used in 2006. It had 93k miles. It now has 252k miles and I have put almost nothing into it. It always starts, is fast and handles corners well. I still have the original battery in the car. I was hoping to buy a newer version of the same thing but this one keeps running. It still gets in the mid to high 20s mpg. I usually get about 25mpg on my 30 mile commute which is great for a powerful v6. I do not know if the newer CLKs are any good but mine is great.

Great car.Great car looks like new inside and out. Drove very nice and can see that in was always garage keep. The top is like brand new. Even all rubber gaskets look like new. We actaully where looking for a hrad top C Class but had to check this car out. It is still a consideration we are thinking about.
