The 2021 BMW M4 marks the beginning of the G82 generation. This high-performance coupe builds upon the legacy of the M3 lineage, offering a sharper focus on driving dynamics. It is available solely as a coupe. Key trims include the base M4 and the M4 Competition. The pricing range typically starts around $72,000 and can exceed $85,000 with options. It's popular for its powerful engine, aggressive styling, and track-ready capabilities.
The Good

The 2021 BMW M4 boasts exceptional performance thanks to its potent engine and responsive handling. Its aggressive design and sporty interior appeal to enthusiasts. While not its primary focus, it offers decent comfort for daily driving. It offers relative value within its performance car segment. For practical buyers, it offers BMW’s brand prestige and a modern feature set.

The Bad

The 2021 BMW M4's controversial styling, particularly the large grille, is a common point of contention. The ride can be stiff, especially in Competition trim. Some owners have reported issues with the iDrive system. Early models might experience software glitches. Watch out for potential tire wear due to the car’s performance capabilities.

What Problems Does the 2021 BMW M4 Have?

The 2021 BMW M4, being a relatively new model, hasn't accumulated a significant long-term reliability record. However, some frequently reported problems and concerns have emerged. Some owners have reported issues with the iDrive system, including occasional glitches and software bugs requiring updates. The adaptive suspension can be prone to issues over time, particularly with wear and tear affecting its responsiveness. Some users have reported excessive tire wear, which is common for high-performance vehicles driven aggressively.
There have been recalls related to fuel pump issues and potential problems with the seat belt assembly on some 2021 models, so checking the vehicle's recall history is crucial. Long-term reliability concerns are mostly related to the complexity of the engine and electronics. Proper maintenance, including regular oil changes and software updates, is essential to mitigate potential issues. Some early adopters have mentioned minor issues with trim pieces and interior components, although these are not widespread. It's recommended to check forums and owner communities for the latest reports and insights.

How long will the 2021 BMW M4 last?

With diligent maintenance, a 2021 BMW M4 can provide over 150,000 miles or 10+ years of service. Adherence to the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule is crucial. Long-term durability depends heavily on driving habits. Aggressive driving can accelerate wear on components like brakes, tires, and suspension. Potential weaknesses over time include the adaptive suspension, which may require replacement, and the electronic systems, which can develop issues. Regular fluid changes and proactive maintenance are key to extending its lifespan.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2021 BMW M4 boasts a comprehensive suite of built-in technology and safety features. The iDrive 7.0 infotainment system with a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen offers intuitive control and connectivity. Standard features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a Harman Kardon surround sound system, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).
Standard ADAS features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and active blind-spot detection. Optional features include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and parking assistant plus.
For entertainment, the M4 offers SiriusXM satellite radio, USB ports, and Bluetooth connectivity. Optional features include wireless charging and a head-up display.
Crash-test ratings from organizations like the NHTSA and IIHS should be consulted for the latest safety information. The M4 is equipped with a robust safety structure and multiple airbags to enhance occupant protection. Specific crash-test ratings can vary by model year, so it is important to review the specific ratings for the 2021 model.

2021 BMW M4 Insurance

Insurance for a 2021 BMW M4 is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2021 BMW M4 Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2021 BMW M4 competes against the Audi RS5, Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe, and Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing.
Performance: The M4 offers similar performance to the RS5 and C63, but the Blackwing surpasses it in raw power.
Features: The M4 has a modern infotainment system and a generous suite of standard features, comparable to its rivals.
Reliability: The Audi RS5 generally enjoys a slightly better reliability reputation. The AMG C63 can be prone to more issues. The CT5-V Blackwing is too new to establish a long-term reliability track record.
Price: The M4 is typically priced competitively within its class.
Alternatives: The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is a compelling alternative for buyers prioritizing outright performance. The Audi RS5 offers a more understated design and all-weather capability with its standard Quattro all-wheel drive. The Mercedes-AMG C63 provides a luxurious interior and a distinct engine note. Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual preferences and priorities.

Final Verdict: Is the 2021 BMW M4 a Good Sedan?

The 2021 BMW M4 is ideal for driving enthusiasts who prioritize performance, aggressive styling, and a connected driving experience. It's worth buying if you're willing to accept its firm ride and polarizing design. Purchasing a used model can offer good value, especially if it has a comprehensive service history and desirable options like the Competition package. Consider the M4 Competition for enhanced performance. Thoroughly inspect any used M4 for signs of wear and tear, and verify its recall status before making a purchase. If budget is a concern, then consider alternatives.

Fantastic luxury performance car

Luxury and outstanding performance. High quality leather and carbon fiber interior combined with 11.3 second quarter mile, outstanding handling and brakes. Best infotainment I've seen on any car. No other car in this price range matches it.

Short time to date

So far, which admittedly is only a month and 800 miles, but so far, loving it. Traded in a Cadillac V Series (The true "V" series and prior to the Blackwing V Series) and I find the M4 Competition to offer a slightly more comfortable ride in the softest setting versus the Cadillac and roughly the same handling capabilities in the "sport" settings. Still getting used to BMW's steering though. Just something different with it and maybe once I get used to I'll trust the M4 even more than the Caddy?

Fantastic car.

The M4 is a great car. I just got it & the dealership was exceptional! The sales people (Tony/Albi/Jorge) & BMW genius (Don Newell)=he spent 2 hours going over all the car’s features with me. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Tom Bush of Orange Park to anyone looking to purchase a new car
