Key trims include the S, SE, Titanium, and Energi (plug-in hybrid). The pricing range when new varied significantly based on trim and options, generally between $22,000 and $40,000. Its attractive styling, fuel-efficient engine options, and available technology made it a popular choice.
The Good

The 2014 Fusion offers a blend of advantages. Performance ranges from fuel-efficient to sporty, especially with the EcoBoost engines. Its sleek design appeals emotionally, while practical buyers appreciate the comfortable ride, available technology, and generally good fuel efficiency. Overall, it provides a balanced value proposition for families and individuals alike.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2014 Fusion include reports of transmission issues (especially with the dual-clutch automatic in some models), potential for coolant intrusion in certain engines, and some electrical gremlins. What Problems Does the 2014 Ford Fusion Have?

The 2014 Ford Fusion has had a few frequently reported problems. One significant concern revolves around the 1.5L and 1.6L EcoBoost engines, where coolant intrusion into the cylinders can occur, potentially leading to engine failure. This issue is often evidenced by white smoke from the exhaust. Transmission problems, particularly with the dual-clutch automatic transmission (Powershift), have also been reported, leading to rough shifting and hesitation. Some owners have experienced electrical issues, including problems with the MyFord Touch system and various sensor malfunctions.

Recalls for the 2014 Fusion have addressed concerns such as power steering assist failures, door latch issues, and potential fuel leaks. Long-term reliability concerns often relate to the potential for engine issues and transmission problems as the vehicle ages and accumulates mileage. Owners should be diligent with maintenance, including regular coolant checks and transmission servicing, to mitigate these risks. Checking for open recalls and service bulletins is crucial before purchasing a used 2014 Fusion. Specific research into the 1.5L and 1.6L EcoBoost issues is highly recommended if considering a model with those engines.

How long will the 2014 Ford Fusion last?

With proper maintenance, a 2014 Ford Fusion can reasonably reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles or more. Years of service depend on driving habits, but expect 10-15 years with good care. However, long-term durability can be affected by potential engine (coolant intrusion) and transmission (Powershift) issues. Regular oil changes, coolant flushes, and transmission servicing are essential. Watch for signs of these problems to maximize the lifespan. Neglecting maintenance can significantly shorten the vehicle's usable life.
Positive Owner Reviews
David M.
I've had this Fusion for several years now and it's been a great car. Very reliable and gets excellent gas mileage. The interior is comfortable and the technology is user-friendly for the most part.
Michael B.
For a used car, this Fusion is a great value. It's well-equipped and drives nicely. The engine has plenty of power for everyday driving. I would recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable sedan.
Jessica K.
Overall, I'm happy with my Fusion. The only real complaints I have are the infotainment system can be slow sometimes, and the seats could be more comfortable on long road trips.
Negative Owner Reviews
Sarah L.
I love the way this car looks! It's a very stylish sedan. However, I've had some issues with the transmission shifting smoothly. Also, the back seat can be a bit cramped for taller passengers.
Robert S.
It's a decent car, but do your research on common issues with this year model before buying. I've had to replace a few parts sooner than I expected. Otherwise, it's a comfortable and practical car.
John A.
It's an okay sedan. Does the job, nothing too fancy. I wish it had a bit more cargo space in the trunk.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2014 Ford Fusion offered a range of tech, entertainment, driver-assistance, and safety features. Standard tech included a basic audio system with CD player and auxiliary input. Higher trims like the SE and Titanium offered the MyFord Touch infotainment system (later updated to SYNC 3 in some models), which included an 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, and smartphone integration.

Driver-assistance features, especially on higher trims, included adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and automatic parking assist. Safety features included standard antilock brakes, stability control, and a suite of airbags. A rearview camera was available on SE and standard on Titanium models. Optional features included a sunroof, upgraded audio systems from Sony, and heated seats.

The 2014 Ford Fusion performed well in crash tests. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) gave it a 5-star overall safety rating. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) awarded it a "Top Safety Pick" rating. These ratings demonstrate the vehicle's strong performance in protecting occupants in the event of a collision. The combination of active and passive safety features contributed to these favorable safety outcomes.

2014 Ford Fusion Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2014 Ford Fusion ranged from around $22,000 for the base S model to over $35,000 for a fully loaded Titanium or Energi. Currently, used market prices typically range from $8,000 to $15,000, depending on condition, mileage, and trim level. The Fusion has depreciated significantly over time, which is typical for mid-size sedans. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's maintenance history, accident record, mileage, and the overall condition of both the interior and exterior. Models with fewer miles, a clean title, and documented service records command higher prices. The engine issues mentioned earlier can negatively impact resale value.

2014 Ford Fusion Cost of Ownership

Insurance costs for the 2014 Ford Fusion are generally moderate. Fuel costs vary depending on the engine choice, with the hybrid models being the most economical. Maintenance costs are average for a mid-size sedan. However, potential repairs related to the EcoBoost engine and Powershift transmission can significantly increase long-term ownership costs. Overall, the Fusion can be relatively economical if major repairs are avoided, but potential engine or transmission issues could make it costly.

2014 Ford Fusion Insurance

Insurance for a 2014 Ford Fusion is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2014 Ford Fusion Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2014 Ford Fusion competes with the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Mazda6, and Chevrolet Malibu. In terms of styling, the Fusion stood out with its sleek design, often considered more attractive than the Camry or Accord. Performance-wise, the Fusion's EcoBoost engines offered comparable power to rivals, though the Camry and Accord are generally considered more reliable. The Mazda6 offers a sportier driving experience.

Feature-wise, the Fusion was competitive, especially in higher trims. However, the MyFord Touch system was often criticized for its complexity and unreliability. The Camry and Accord offer simpler, more user-friendly interfaces. Regarding price, the Fusion was typically in line with its competitors.

Alternatives to the 2014 Ford Fusion include the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, known for their reliability and resale value. The Mazda6 is a good choice for those seeking a more engaging driving experience. If reliability is a top priority, the Camry and Accord are generally considered better choices. However, if styling and available features are more important, and you are aware of the potential maintenance concerns, the Fusion remains a compelling option.

Final Verdict: Is the 2014 Ford Fusion a Good Sedan?

The 2014 Ford Fusion is ideal for buyers who prioritize styling and available features in a mid-size sedan. It’s worth buying *used* if you find one in excellent condition with a well-documented maintenance history, preferably with the 2.5L engine to avoid EcoBoost issues. Avoid models with the problematic Powershift transmission. Getting a pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic is highly recommended, especially focusing on the engine and transmission. If you're willing to accept potential maintenance risks in exchange for attractive styling and a lower price point, the 2014 Fusion could be a good fit. However, prioritizing reliability might lead you to consider alternatives like the Toyota Camry or Honda Accord.

Stylish but Some Issues

I love the way this car looks! It's a very stylish sedan. However, I've had some issues with the transmission shifting smoothly. Also, the back seat can be a bit cramped for taller passengers.

Minor Annoyances

Overall, I'm happy with my Fusion. The only real complaints I have are the infotainment system can be slow sometimes, and the seats could be more comfortable on long road trips.

Good Car, but Research Common Problems

It's a decent car, but do your research on common issues with this year model before buying. I've had to replace a few parts sooner than I expected. Otherwise, it's a comfortable and practical car.

Love the Hybrid

I have the hybrid version and I'm extremely impressed with the fuel efficiency. It's a smooth ride and the interior is surprisingly spacious. The regenerative braking takes some getting used to, but it's worth it for the gas savings.
