The Good
The 2014 Hyundai Accent offers excellent value and fuel efficiency, appealing to practical buyers. Its stylish design and available features, like a sunroof, can attract those seeking a touch of flair. Performance is adequate for city driving. While not luxurious, the Accent provides a comfortable ride for its class and reported reliability is generally good.
The Bad
The 2014 Hyundai Accent's weaknesses include its limited rear seat space and basic interior materials. The engine can feel underpowered, especially when fully loaded or on hills. Some owners have reported issues with the automatic transmission and electrical components. Rust can be a concern in areas with harsh winters. Overall refinement isn't as high as some competitors.

What Problems Does the 2014 Hyundai Accent Have?
Recalls for the 2014 Accent have included issues related to the stop lamp switch, which could cause the brake lights to malfunction and the cruise control to not disengage properly. Check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for specific recall information and VIN applicability.
Long-term reliability can be a concern, with some owners experiencing issues after 100,000 miles. Regular maintenance, especially fluid changes and timely repairs, is crucial. Rust can be a problem in areas with road salt. The quality of interior plastics might degrade over time, leading to rattles and squeaks. Some model years before and after 2014 have had similar reported issues related to engine and transmission performance, so thorough pre-purchase inspection is recommended.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features are minimal. ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and electronic stability control are standard. However, features like blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, or adaptive cruise control are not available.
Safety features include six airbags (front, side, and side curtain airbags), electronic stability control, and traction control. The SE trim benefits from rear disc brakes, which offer slightly better stopping performance compared to the drum brakes on lower trims.
Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) should be checked for specific results, but generally, the Accent received good scores, though small overlap front crash tests sometimes presented challenges. It is important to consult these agencies directly for the most accurate and up-to-date ratings. Overall the 2014 Accent prioritizes affordability, so it lacks many of the advanced tech and safety features found in newer or more expensive vehicles.

How Does the 2014 Hyundai Accent Compare to Other Sedan?
In terms of features, the Accent is competitive, especially the SE trim. However, the Fit offers more advanced features for the time period.
**Alternatives:** The Honda Fit is a strong alternative if cargo space and versatility are priorities. The Toyota Yaris is a good choice for those prioritizing reliability. The Nissan Versa Note (hatchback version) provides ample rear seat room, but its engine is less powerful.
Ultimately, the Accent stands out for its balance of price, features, and fuel economy. However, buyers should carefully consider their individual needs and preferences when comparing it to its rivals.
