What Problems Does the 2008 Hyundai Azera Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2008 Hyundai Azera can include issues with the automatic transmission, such as rough shifting or slipping. Some owners have reported problems with the electrical system, including malfunctioning sensors and issues with the car's computer. Suspension components, like struts and control arms, are known to wear out over time, especially in areas with poor road conditions, leading to potential repair costs. The navigation system (if equipped) can sometimes experience glitches or failure.
Recalls for the 2008 Hyundai Azera might have addressed issues such as problems with the anti-lock braking system (ABS) or electrical shorts that could potentially lead to a fire. Checking the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website for specific recall information is always recommended.
Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the longevity of the transmission and potential for increased maintenance costs as the car ages. Regular maintenance, including fluid changes and inspections, is crucial to mitigating these concerns. Additionally, keeping an eye on suspension wear and addressing electrical issues promptly can help prolong the Azera's lifespan. Specific model year issues are not consistently reported, suggesting that most problems are related to general wear and tear rather than specific defects unique to the 2008 model.

How long will the 2008 Hyundai Azera last?

With proper maintenance, a 2008 Hyundai Azera can reasonably last for 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 15-20 years of service. Regular oil changes, timely fluid replacements (transmission, coolant, brake fluid), and addressing minor repairs promptly are key to longevity.
Long-term durability can be affected by climate and driving conditions. Potential weaknesses include the aforementioned transmission issues, suspension wear, and potential for increased electrical problems as the car ages. Rust can also be a concern in regions with harsh winters and salted roads. Overall, diligent maintenance plays a vital role in maximizing the lifespan of this vehicle.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2008 Hyundai Azera boasts a decent array of built-in tech and safety features for its time. Entertainment features include a premium audio system with a CD changer (and optional Infinity system on the Limited trim). Some models may have a navigation system.
Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern cars but included cruise control.
Safety features were comprehensive for the era, including antilock brakes (ABS), traction control, stability control, and a full complement of airbags (front, side, and side curtain).
Optional features, primarily on the Limited trim, included a sunroof, upgraded leather, memory settings for the driver's seat, power-adjustable pedals, and the upgraded Infinity audio system.
Crash-test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) generally showed good performance for the 2008 Azera, providing reassurance in terms of occupant protection. Specific ratings should be verified on the official NHTSA and IIHS websites. The Azera was designed with safety in mind, offering structural integrity and key safety systems.

2008 Hyundai Azera Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2008 Hyundai Azera had an MSRP ranging from approximately $25,000 to $30,000, depending on the trim level and options. Current used market prices typically range from $3,000 to $7,000, contingent on condition, mileage, and location.
The Azera has experienced significant depreciation, typical for full-size sedans. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, condition (mechanical and cosmetic), maintenance history, and geographic location. Vehicles with documented maintenance records and in excellent condition command higher prices. Demand for older full-size sedans is also a factor, as preferences shift towards newer models and SUVs.

2008 Hyundai Azera Cost of Ownership

Insurance costs for a 2008 Hyundai Azera are generally moderate, reflecting its age and safety features. Fuel costs can be average for a V6-powered full-size sedan. Maintenance costs can be moderate if routine services are followed. However, potential repairs on older vehicles could increase ownership costs. Long-term ownership costs depend heavily on the vehicle's condition and maintenance history. While not the most economical car to own, it can be relatively affordable compared to luxury brands.

2008 Hyundai Azera Insurance

Insurance for a 2008 Hyundai Azera is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2008 Hyundai Azera Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2008 Hyundai Azera competed against full-size sedans like the Toyota Avalon, Buick Lucerne, and Ford Taurus. In terms of performance, the Azera's V6 was comparable, but not class-leading. Feature-wise, the Azera offered a strong value proposition, packing many features for its price, often exceeding the base models of its rivals. Reliability is generally considered good, but the Toyota Avalon typically holds an edge in long-term reliability. Price was a major advantage for the Azera, often undercutting its competitors.
If reliability is a top priority, the Toyota Avalon is a better alternative, though it might come at a higher price. The Buick Lucerne offers a similar level of comfort but can have its own reliability concerns. The Ford Taurus provides a more American-style driving experience.
Depending on individual needs and preferences, the Azera offers a compelling combination of features, comfort, and value. However, considering alternatives like the Avalon is wise for those prioritizing long-term dependability above all else.

Final Verdict: Is the 2008 Hyundai Azera a Good Sedan?

The 2008 Hyundai Azera is ideal for budget-conscious buyers seeking a comfortable and spacious full-size sedan. It's worth buying as a used vehicle, especially if found in good condition with a well-documented maintenance history. A lower mileage example would be preferred. The Limited trim offers more luxury features and may be worth the extra cost if it fits the budget. It's best suited for those who value a smooth ride and a generous amount of standard features over outright performance or the absolute best reliability. Thorough pre-purchase inspection is essential to identify any potential maintenance needs.

Decent car

Very comfortable, smooth ride, enough horsepower, but had an extensive repair when the transmission radiator blew and mixed coolants and transmission fluid. Also have an airbag light from a recall that dealer wouldn't fix.

Owned this car for 61/2 Years

This week was the first "costly" repair I've had and it was still under $1k It ended up just being the alternator and a couple of gaskets.
