The Good
The IONIQ 5 offers a compelling blend of advantages. Performance is strong, especially with the dual-motor configuration. The striking design appeals emotionally, while the comfortable and spacious interior provides practicality. Its efficiency and available fast charging are strong selling points, and the overall value proposition is competitive within the EV market.
The Bad
Some IONIQ 5 owners have reported issues with the infotainment system and its software. The ride can be a bit firm, especially on rough roads. Availability can also be a challenge due to high demand and limited production. Watch out for potential battery degradation over the long term, a common concern with all EVs.

How Does the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 Compare to Other Vehicle?
Reliability is still being established, but the Tesla Model Y has had some reported quality issues. Price-wise, the IONIQ 5 is generally competitive, often undercutting the Model Y.
Alternatives to consider would be the Kia EV6 (similar platform, different styling), or the Ford Mustang Mach-E (sportier, but potentially less reliable). If performance is the top priority and budget isn't a concern, the Tesla Model Y is a strong contender. Overall, the IONIQ 5 offers a compelling blend of style, features, and value in the EV SUV segment.

Final Verdict: Is the 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 a Good Vehicle?

Beautiful, comfortable, end reliable EV.I have the Limited version of this car. It has a very comfortable ride compared to our Tesla M3. Range is plenty for daily commuting and long drives. The car charges very quickly at EA stations and comes with 2 years of free charging. The front seats are very comfortable and fully recline plus they are heated and cooled. The infotainment system is feature rich but the controls are a complicated mess so I mostly use Apple CarPlay with works great on the large display. I suggest you test drive this car as the photos make it seem smaller than it really is. It's about crossover size but with a hatchback. The Digital Teal and Shooting Star matte paint colors are beautiful! My Hyundai service center has been excellent but some other Hyundai dealers are not so great. Visit your local service center before buying.

Great car after multiple computer updatesThe car is perfect now that it has had numerous computer updates. It definitely had problems with the back-up camera not consistently working, putting on the brakes suddenly for no apparent reason, with the 12-V battery dying (until I removed the light in the FRONK), with "Reading USB" constantly coming on the R screen, and multiple other computer problems. All were fixed with multiple computer updates.

Great looks and performance with a fast rechargeThe Ioniq 5 is said to be one of the better electric cars available. Before leasing, we drove the Porsche Taycan (outstanding, but short range), BMW i4 M50 (superlative, but rare), BMW iX SUV (hard to see out the back), the Tesla Model 3 (long range; cheap inside, but excellent), Tesla Model Y (long range, hard to see out the back). We didn't drive the VW (unavailable), the Polestar (short range), the big Benz (too blingy for our tastes) or the cheaper Chevy and Nissan. The Ioniq 5 isn't the fastest (Teslas, the Taycan and the BMWs are faster), but it's a rocketship with great torque for accelerating, passing and entering freeways. It has 12 speed/regeneration modes, making it satisfyingly adjustable to your driving style. It apparently charges as fast as or faster than any other electric -- 16 minutes to 80% at 200 kW experienced yesterday). And it's one of the coolest looking cars ever, which all the young guys will confirm. There are some small things to criticize (we didn't get the loaded version), but overall it's a winner.

Great car, poor update capabilityLove the car except for lack of rear wiper/washer. Biggest problem so far has been the software updates which cannot be done via the internet. It has to go a dealer and then it can take a couple of hours for the update to download from a laptop hooked up to the car. Should be able to do these remotely.

Don't shy away from a base model with AWD.I read a few of the other reviews so I will not repeat what others have said. I wanted a Limited, but I could only find a base model with AWD. I almost didn't buy it, but that would have been a mistake. The base model with AWD comes with the heat pump which is a plus. I purchased in NJ and drove it back to AL for FREE. The 2 years of 30-minutes free charging at Electrify America charging stations is wonderful. You get free 30-minute sessions per charging location. Drive another 200-250 miles to the next charging station and tou get another 30 minutes of charging for free. Yes, it charges from 10% to 80% in 15-20 minutes if you use a 350kW charger. The max charging rate i experienced was 245 kW. Most of the charging stations are in the parking lot of a Super Wal-Mart withing 2 miles of an interstate exit. I find that I don't miss all the things I thought I would miss from the higher trims. The fabric seats are comfortable and the Scotch Guard works extremely well. I miss a rear windshield wiper, but I treated the glass with RainX and that has worked well. If all you can find is a base model with AWD, go for it! I would hesitate on a base model with RWD if acceleration matters to you.

World car of the year, speaks for itself. This is my 4th EV, almost 4k miles in a month (bought the car in NY and drove it back to CA). Ride is very comfortable, you get all the options with the limited trim which is very nice. Very roomy inside and comes with all the latest safety technology.

I think this car is an excellent option for first-This is my second electric car, I think the Engineers took it out of the stadium with this design, it has a good range per charge, the interior design is very futuristic, it is very spacious, the passengers in the back have enough space and the seats are very comfortable They can also recline and move backwards or forwards. The battery consumption according to the driving style, be it sport, normal or Eco, is very good. There are plenty of fast chargers not only at the DMV, but all over the East Coast, they charge from 10% to 80% in about 15 to 18 minutes. The only drawback I saw with this car is that it does not have a rear windshield wiper. I don't know if this is because in all my previous cars I had it and I'm used to having good visibility when it rains and snows.

Iconic ioniq 5User friendly, powerful, easy to use and well thought out. It feels a value for the price and rebates. I would purchase again. Great first electric car experience.

Comfortable, fast, and road-trips so easilyThe IONIQ 5 is the first real Tesla competitor at a price point below its equivalent, the Model Y. Road-tripping it home over 2 days after buying it was genuinely easy with the advanced driver assistance and quick charging. It is extremely spacious and comfortable inside. It is not the sportiest car but it is really, really comfortable and is a great overall car in addition to being one of the top EVs.
MarkAlb on March 15, 2022
Best in its ClassAnyone one who wants to go EV and needs range and interior space for people or cargo should take a good look at the Ioniq 5. This car fulfills all my needs and meets all my expectations. Of course you could get a Tesla Model Y and spend a lot more, but Y?
