Analysis
What Problems Does the 2023 Hyundai Kona Have?
Recalls have been issued for previous Kona model years regarding potential issues with the engine and braking systems. It's essential to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any open recalls affecting the specific 2023 Kona VIN. Long-term reliability concerns primarily revolve around the DCT and the potential for carbon buildup in the turbo engine, which can affect performance and fuel economy over time. Regularly scheduled maintenance and adhering to the manufacturer's recommended service intervals can help mitigate these risks. Oil consumption in the earlier model years was also a reported issue by some owners; however, Hyundai seems to have addressed this in the newer models.
How long will the 2023 Hyundai Kona last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Entertainment features include available SiriusXM satellite radio and a premium Harman Kardon audio system. Driver-assistance features are plentiful, even in the base SE trim, including forward collision avoidance assist, lane keeping assist, and driver attention warning. Higher trims add blind-spot collision warning, rear cross-traffic collision warning, and adaptive cruise control.
Safety features include multiple airbags, electronic stability control, and anti-lock brakes. Optional features include a sunroof, leather upholstery, and automatic climate control. The 2023 Hyundai Kona has generally received good crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA, though ratings may vary slightly depending on the specific configuration. How Does the 2023 Hyundai Kona Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?
Regarding features, the Kona offers a competitive suite of standard equipment, though the Seltos may offer more advanced tech features at a similar price point. Reliability is comparable among these models. The Kicks is significantly more affordable, but sacrifices performance and available features.
If you prioritize driving dynamics and a more upscale interior, the Mazda CX-30 is a better choice. If you need more space, the Kia Seltos is recommended. For budget-conscious buyers, the Nissan Kicks is a solid alternative. If a good blend of space, fuel efficiency, and available all-wheel drive is desired, consider the Honda HR-V. The Kona is a strong contender offering a compelling blend of style, performance, and value, placing it competitively within its class. All of these options should be considered based on personal priorities.

Final Verdict: Is the 2023 Hyundai Kona a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?
Dano on March 9, 2024
Was a great deal on Certified Used SUV KonaThe Kona is a nice car, has plenty of power for the 2.0L engine, as long its in sport mode. Gas economy is ok at around 28mpg. Sun roof is great. All the auto features are nice, but I wish that the "Turn the motor Off" at a stop was off by default. I don't like the jerk feel it does when it turns itself back on after you release the brake, I tend to manually turn that feature off, if I remember to press the manual override button. Plenty of room for normal size people. if your pushing 6 foot I wouldn't recommend this vehicle, as it would be hard to duck to get in and out of the front seats. I do like the warranty BUT Hyundai hides a few things from you, like the computers are NOT covered by their 5 year, 60k or 10 year 100k warranty only 3 year 36k. I would suggest an extended warranty to cover the 35 computers alone in this vehicle. Also These new cars are all drive by wire. meaning NO cables anymore to throttle, brakes, etc.It is all done by a computer and sensors, keep that in mind. GPS computer is pretty good, map works good. I still like that Hyundai still offers a USB for flash drives with MP3 music, Not everyone wants to use your stupid phone to play music.

The trunk doesn't have a button on dashboard to unI'm not happy with the inconveniences I get from this vehicle. The trunk doesn't have the the unlock button on the dashboard nor on the key and you must have the key on you to get the trunk open. Vehicle must be turned on if you forget to close a window. I don't like the automatic stop and go feature. IT's based on electric. The door unlocks 70% you need the key to unlock or lock. I have lease over 30 years and I have never experienced these inconveniences

Great car!Very nice car I like the driver assist lane assist blindspot assist etc . Has a nice big screen with great view back up camera . AWD works awesome in the snow also has 4wd lock for worse road condition. Good gas mileage quiet ride and plenty of room for a smaller SUV.

Sucky electronicsInitially I was super happy with my car, but the infotainment (radio and navigation) system malfunctions on a regular basis. It supposed to be under warranty but no one will do anything to fix it. I've taken it in several times and they just say to reset it. Then two days later all the problems start all over again. I don't care for the automatic engine shutting off at lights. I know it can be turned off but it needs to be done every time you restart the car. I work in people homes so its constantly a nuisance. On an open highway it would not be annoying, but I work in the city. It a cute car, good gas mileage, holds the road good, but I would like the navigation/radio/infotainment system to function as I was let to believe it would when I bought the car.

Kona reviewI have only had the car for a few weeks. The mileage per gallon right now is about 26. I'm told it will get better. I hope so. It's a good looking car and the most impressive feature is a message that comes up on the dashboard if you have something on the backseat. The message says check the rear seats. That should be standard on every automobile. The purpose for driving is to run errands and get from place to place. I am the sole driver.

Excellent decision.I'm stepping down in SUVs from a Santa Fe to the Kona. Handling is comfortable. Not quite use to engine starting and stopping at stop lights. Looks good. Feels more like a car than SUV, but I'm coming out of a Santa Fe. Braking is excellent. Exterior is sleek and impressive. Follow up by salesman has been excellent.
