Cathleen V | March 31, 2025
The 2007 GMC Yukon is a full-size SUV, part of the second generation (2007-2014). It offers a spacious interior and robust towing capabilities. Key trims include SLE, SLT, and Denali. As a used vehicle, the pricing range varies significantly based on condition and mileage, but typically falls between $5,000 and $15,000. Its popularity stems from its combination of truck-like capability and family-friendly features. It stands out with its strong V8 engine options.
The Good

The 2007 Yukon offers strong performance with its V8 engines, providing ample power for towing and hauling. Its spacious cabin and comfortable ride appeal to those seeking a family-friendly vehicle. While fuel efficiency isn't a strong point, its reliability and overall value make it a practical choice for budget-conscious buyers. The Yukon's imposing design also appeals to buyers looking for a powerful and capable SUV.

The Bad

The 2007 GMC Yukon has some known weaknesses. Fuel economy is generally poor, especially with the larger engines. Potential issues include transmission problems, particularly with high mileage. Also, watch out for oil consumption issues and potential electrical problems. Rust can also be a concern, especially in areas with harsh winters.

What Problems Does the 2007 GMC Yukon Have?

The 2007 GMC Yukon has several frequently reported problems. One common issue is excessive oil consumption, particularly in the 5.3L V8 engines. This can lead to engine damage if not monitored and addressed. Transmission issues, such as hard shifting or complete failure, are also reported, especially at higher mileage. Electrical problems, including issues with the instrument cluster, door locks, and windows, are not uncommon.

Recalls for the 2007 Yukon have addressed issues like faulty windshield wipers, potential fuel leaks, and problems with the electronic stability control system. It's crucial to check the vehicle's VIN for any outstanding recalls before purchasing.

Long-term reliability concerns include rust, especially in areas where salt is used on roads. Suspension components, like ball joints and shocks, may also require replacement over time. The Active Fuel Management (AFM) system in some V8 engines can also contribute to long-term reliability problems, as it can cause uneven wear and tear on the engine. Regularly scheduled maintenance, including oil changes and fluid checks, is essential to mitigate these issues and extend the vehicle's lifespan.

How long will the 2007 GMC Yukon last?

With proper maintenance, a 2007 GMC Yukon can reasonably provide 200,000 miles or more of service. Many owners report reaching this milestone with regular oil changes, fluid checks, and timely repairs. However, long-term durability depends heavily on maintenance habits. Neglecting oil changes or ignoring warning signs can significantly shorten its lifespan. Weaknesses that emerge over time include rust, suspension wear, and potential issues with the transmission and engine, particularly regarding oil consumption and AFM system failures. Electrical components may also require attention as the vehicle ages. Proper care is key to maximizing longevity.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2007 GMC Yukon features a range of built-in tech, entertainment, and safety features, though somewhat dated by today's standards. Standard tech includes a basic AM/FM radio with a CD player and auxiliary input. Higher trims offer a Bose premium sound system and a rear-seat entertainment system with a DVD player. Optional features include a navigation system and OnStar connectivity.

Driver-assistance features are limited compared to modern vehicles. Standard safety features include anti-lock brakes, stability control, and traction control. Higher trims offer rear parking sensors. Airbags include front and side-impact airbags for the front occupants.

Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) are generally good, with the Yukon earning four or five stars in most categories. However, it's important to note that crash test standards have evolved since 2007.

In summary, while the 2007 Yukon offered decent tech and safety features for its time, modern vehicles offer significantly more advanced driver-assistance systems and entertainment options. It's important to consider this when evaluating a used 2007 Yukon.

2007 GMC Yukon Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2007 GMC Yukon had an MSRP ranging from approximately $33,000 to $48,000, depending on the trim and options. Currently, used market prices typically range from $5,000 to $15,000, although prices can vary depending on condition, mileage, and location.

The Yukon has experienced significant depreciation over the years. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, condition (rust, mechanical issues), trim level (Denali models typically hold their value better), and the presence of desirable options like four-wheel drive and rear-seat entertainment. Vehicles with a well-documented maintenance history also command higher prices.

2007 GMC Yukon Cost of Ownership

The 2007 GMC Yukon is generally considered costly to own long-term. Insurance costs are moderate to high, reflecting its size and potential repair costs. Fuel costs are significant due to its poor fuel economy. Maintenance and repair costs can be substantial, particularly as the vehicle ages, with potential expenses for transmission repairs, engine issues (oil consumption), and electrical problems. While parts are readily available, the overall cost of ownership is higher compared to more fuel-efficient and reliable vehicles.

2007 GMC Yukon Insurance

Insurance for a 2007 GMC Yukon is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2007 GMC Yukon Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2007 GMC Yukon competes with other full-size SUVs like the Chevrolet Tahoe, Ford Expedition, and Toyota Sequoia. In terms of performance, the Yukon offers comparable power and towing capacity to its rivals. Features are generally similar across the class, although the Sequoia often had a slight edge in standard equipment.

Reliability is a key point of differentiation. The Toyota Sequoia generally enjoys a better reputation for long-term reliability compared to the Yukon. The Ford Expedition can also be a viable alternative, though it may have its own specific issues to watch out for. In terms of price, the Yukon typically falls in the middle of the pack.

If reliability is a top priority, the Toyota Sequoia is a better alternative, although it may command a higher price. The Chevrolet Tahoe is a similar alternative, essentially a rebadged Yukon, so its pros and cons are similar. The Ford Expedition is another option, offering comparable size and capability. Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual needs and priorities, considering factors like budget, desired features, and tolerance for potential repairs.

Final Verdict: Is the 2007 GMC Yukon a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2007 GMC Yukon is ideal for buyers needing a spacious SUV with robust towing capabilities and who are comfortable with potential maintenance costs. It's worth buying under the right conditions. A well-maintained example with a thorough pre-purchase inspection is crucial. Lower mileage examples are preferable, and the SLT trim offers a good balance of features and value. However, be prepared for potential repairs and higher fuel costs. Buyers prioritizing reliability above all else might consider a Toyota Sequoia instead. Avoid models with known issues or a questionable maintenance history. It's best to buy used now, as buying new is not an option for a 2007 model.
