The Good
The 2018 Dodge Journey's primary advantage is its value. It offered affordable third-row seating, appealing to practical buyers needing space. While performance and efficiency aren't its strengths, the Journey provides comfortable seating and a familiar, user-friendly design. Emotionally, it offers a sense of security and capability for family adventures, despite some reliability concerns.
The Bad
The 2018 Dodge Journey suffers from below-average fuel economy and relatively lackluster performance, especially with the base engine. Reliability can be a concern, with some owners reporting issues with the transmission and electrical systems. The interior materials and design are also dated compared to newer competitors, and crash test scores are not impressive.

What Problems Does the 2018 Dodge Journey Have?
Several recalls have affected Dodge Journeys in general, although not necessarily specific to the 2018 model year alone. These recalls have addressed concerns like faulty wiring harnesses that could lead to engine stalling, and issues with the anti-lock braking system (ABS). It's crucial to check the vehicle's VIN for any outstanding recalls before purchasing.
Long-term reliability can be a concern. Issues related to oil leaks, especially in higher-mileage examples, are not uncommon. The 2.4L engine, while more fuel-efficient than the V6, is often considered underpowered and can suffer from premature wear. The overall build quality and materials used in the interior also contribute to concerns about long-term durability.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features are limited. A rearview camera is standard, but advanced features like blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and automatic emergency braking are not available.
Safety features include standard antilock brakes, electronic stability control, and multiple airbags. Optional safety features included integrated child booster seats.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) are mixed. The 2018 Journey received an overall safety rating of 4 out of 5 stars. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) ratings are also not particularly impressive, with marginal scores in some crash tests. Always check the latest safety ratings from both NHTSA and IIHS before making a purchase.

How Does the 2018 Dodge Journey Compare to Other Wagon?
However, the Journey's primary advantage is its lower price point, particularly when considering models with third-row seating. If budget is a major concern and third-row seating is a necessity, it can be a viable option.
Alternatives that offer a better overall package include the Kia Sorento (if budget allows for the upgrade). The Mazda CX-5 or Honda CR-V provide a better blend of fuel efficiency, reliability, and driving enjoyment, although they lack third-row seating. For similar price point and third-row seating, consider carefully researching reliability ratings and maintenance costs.

Final Verdict: Is the 2018 Dodge Journey a Good Wagon?
Bradley on July 23, 2024
My vehicle has just under 50,000 miles (not hard miles)My vehicle has just under 50,000 miles (not hard miles) on it. In March of this year the transmission started to slip. I took it to the same dealership I bought it from. $1000 later they said that there were no noticable issues and no metal shavings when they changed the transmission filter and pan. Fast forward to now, I just finished a drive from Kansas to Mississippi and the transmission has blown. The place it is at right now says that there was no fluid and that the transmission pump is gone. I stated that it was not leaking and they said that is was blown from the top side of the transmission and that it was leaking ONLY when driving. I did not see any leaks or drips on the ground where I parked lately either. They said that this has been a long known Dodge transmission issue. Now I have to decide whether to put in a rebuilt transmission or new. I owe $3000 still on this thing.

2018 dodge journey no start. My vehicle has been pretty good up until two weeks ago , September 9, 2022. I experienced a no start situation with the vehicle towed to the dealership and the dealership has no idea what's happening or watt they report bad battery no charge etc. I'm suspecting that the PCM has a bad chip due to a recall that was performed supposedly in 2018. I don't believe my vehicle was recalled and have not received a recall notice from Chrysler Corp. so now I've got a dead vehicle in the shop the dealership has no concept of what's happening and the service writer seems to be not knowledgeable enough to research the problem.

Little FlawsLove my Journey but have notice several with a missing antenna and also several with foggy headlights. Like moisture buildup inside the headlight assemblies. Bluetooth doesn't always hook up. Not the easiest on gas.

Journey needs helpMotor lacks pick up/passing power. Acceleration is slow at best! As for reliability, the passenger's light does not work right, there is a slight sputter and a slight rattle in the front end!

Best for 3 Grandchildren with Booster seatsIt has adequate room for 3 booster seats and great for getting groceries in and out .No need to bend over the lip to lift items in or out ! Drawbacks , no grab handles for driver or passenger , running boards would be great to have an automatic opening and closing for the rear hatch!

Very fit, well performing autoHad a 2015 and found it super comfortable on long distance trips. No brainer to do a repeat with a newer model. Car was clean, excellent care, perfect exterior.
