The Good
The 2017 Dodge Journey's key advantage is its affordability and available third-row seating, appealing to budget-conscious families. It offers a comfortable ride and a user-friendly infotainment system. Emotionally, buyers appreciate the rugged SUV styling. Practically, it provides ample cargo space and a relatively low entry price compared to other three-row SUVs.
The Bad
The 2017 Dodge Journey suffers from below-average fuel economy and uninspired handling. The base engine is underpowered, and the overall interior design feels dated. Reliability can be a concern, so be sure to watch out for potential issues with the transmission and electrical systems. The crash test ratings are also not the best in its class.

What Problems Does the 2017 Dodge Journey Have?
Long-term reliability concerns center around the vehicle's aging platform and the quality of some components. Suspension components, such as ball joints and control arms, may require replacement sooner than expected on some vehicles. It's crucial to have a pre-purchase inspection performed by a qualified mechanic to identify any potential issues before committing to a purchase. How Does the 2017 Dodge Journey Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?
Alternatives like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V offer superior reliability, fuel economy, and resale value. The Nissan Rogue provides a more modern interior and better fuel efficiency. For those prioritizing space and a third row on a budget, the Kia Sorento is a better option, offering more features and a stronger reputation for reliability. While the Journey may be tempting due to its low price, the long-term ownership costs and potential reliability issues make these alternatives more compelling choices.

Solid, economical, reliable transportationBought new in October 2017. 85,000+ miles. Needs new set of tires (previous set went 40,000+ miles) and a new battery (original battery dying after 69 months). Otherwise just (full synthetic) oil changes and routine maintenance. 2.4L 4-cyl. engine/4-sp. automatic trans. runs strong. 21 MPG in town, 30 MPG on the highway. Good winter traction with the right tires. Nothing inside or outside has fallen off that wasn't helped off by road debris. I wanted basic transportation without all the bling - this vehicle has more than filled the bill.

Transmission shot after 55,000 milesHad this vehicle for almost two years with no problems. Then on the way home from the airport and about 3 hours from home, the transmission stopped working. Barely made it to a car shop and at 55,000 the transmission is shot and a bill of $6000 to repair. The mechanic was even shocked at the transmission going bad with only 55,000 miles on it. No warning signs at all.

Out performed my expectations! This SUV meets all my needs. It has spacious third row seating, plenty of cargo storage compartments, several 12v plug ins, USB & aux ports. It rides smooth and the upright seating proves comfortable on long journeys! Its powertrain rates sluggish, but I beg to differ, it performs just as a V6 should.

Not what I wanted, but pleasantly surprisedIts a great vehicle for smaller families. I have 4 children under 10 and can fit everybody in ALMOST comfortably. The 3rd row seating leg room is very tight. Other than that, it's great. Not the fastest vehicle. But its not slow and has enough grunt to pass anybody in a timely manner. Seats are supportive with mild bolstering in the front. The audio system is good enough that im not constantly thinking about upgrading it. In fact the stock speakers have very clear definition at higher levels which kind of blew my mind a bit. All in all its been a very reliable car.

Disappointed for a new carRides rough, poor gas mileage, just not what I expected in a now car. I have a 16 year old Chevy Trailblazer that is still quieter an handles better an gets about the same gas mileage

Extremely reliable vehicleThird journey I have owned,(2013, 2015, 2017). Always dependable, never any issues. Easy to maintain and pleasure to drive. Looking to stay with what works.

Reliable, Comfortable, and FlexiblePros- The car rides smooth as silk. We've driven it from Florida to New York and back twice now and it's comfortable, decent on gas mileage for a vehicle its size, and cleans up pretty easily. We've had zero mechanical issues and even the tires took 2 years to wear down before they needed to be replaced. Cons- The phone chargers are down deep in the cubby under the radio. So deep. You can't see past your hand and end up pushing around and hoping you hit the plug right. Total pain. The 3rd row folds down flat for added cargo room, but when it's up you won't fit more than 2 bags of groceries in the trunk area and people with larger feet can't fit in the back row. Still the flexibility of fitting 2 extra people or tons of stuff in the back is really nice. My 2 large dogs were able to jump in and out without a problem. The 2nd row also moves forward and backward for leg room. Two adults fit comfortably in the 2nd row.

Beautiful comfortable rideWas looking for an suv that had all wheel drive and this Journey has it. It pulls my boat and my other trailer well. The ride is very comfortable, quiet, and handles well.
