New pricing ranged approximately from $20,000 to $28,000, depending on the trim and options.

The Bad

Weaknesses of the 2010 Dodge Journey include its below-average fuel economy, particularly with the V6 engine. Reliability can be a concern, with reports of electrical issues and transmission problems. The base engine can feel underpowered. Watch out for signs of deferred maintenance.

What Problems Does the 2010 Dodge Journey Have?

The 2010 Dodge Journey has several frequently reported problems. Electrical issues are common, including malfunctioning sensors, problems with the radio, and issues with the vehicle's computer system. Transmission problems, particularly with the automatic transmission, have also been reported. Premature brake wear is another common complaint. Specific recalls for the 2010 model year have addressed issues such as faulty airbag inflators and potential problems with the anti-lock braking system (ABS).

Long-term reliability concerns center around the powertrain and electrical systems. Owners have reported issues with the engine stalling, rough shifting, and persistent warning lights. Rust can also be a problem, especially in regions with harsh winters and road salt. Due to these issues, it's essential to thoroughly inspect any used 2010 Dodge Journey and check its maintenance history before purchasing. Paying close attention to the transmission's performance and electrical components is highly recommended. Considering a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic is also advisable.

How long will the 2010 Dodge Journey last?

A 2010 Dodge Journey, with consistent maintenance, could potentially reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles. However, long-term durability is a concern due to the aforementioned reliability issues. Proper maintenance, including regular oil changes, transmission fluid flushes, and timely repairs, is crucial. Weaknesses over time include potential rust formation, particularly in areas with road salt, and the gradual degradation of electrical components. The transmission is also a potential weak point, so regular servicing is vital for longevity.

Negative Owner Reviews

Car has cost me very nearly as much in repair as purchase price. I have less than 70 k miles on it. Have had to replace nearly every major component including transmission. Very poorly constructed.
CollegeKid
My family has owned our 2010 Dodge Journey for 5+ years and this car has been nothing but garage bills. The car just hit 140,000 miles and I payed $2,000 to get it all fixed and inspected. I take it to college and it has still been nothing but issues. I have paid $1,000 more dollars for it STILL to not even start up. Look it up on youtube and you will find that many of these vehicles have maintenance issues where even after getting batteries and starters replaced, a few weeks later the car isn't starting again. These vehicles were just built poorly. Please, for the love of God do not purchase this vehicle. Just don't do it.
tried to sell it back to dodge they wont buy it
it not worth the trouble of buying it or renting it the gas mpg is low between 13 and 19 mpg when it should be between 21 and 29 it never went above 19 mpg except 3x and all with the strong wind was at its bacdk. now the gas is so low its not worth driving except in emergencies. ths car which is a 4cyl should not be rated any stars AT ALL NO STARS but if must have then it should be 1 star/

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2010 Dodge Journey's tech and entertainment features were fairly basic for its time. Standard features included a CD player, AM/FM radio, and auxiliary audio input. Higher trims offered features like a premium sound system, a touchscreen display, and a DVD entertainment system for rear passengers.

Driver-assistance features were limited, with standard features including anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic stability control, and traction control. Optional features included a rearview camera.

Safety features included front and side airbags, as well as side curtain airbags for all three rows of seating.

Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) varied depending on the specific test, but generally, the Journey received mixed ratings. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) also provided ratings, which should be consulted for a comprehensive safety assessment. It is important to note that safety technology has improved significantly since 2010, so while adequate for its time, the Journey lags behind modern vehicles in terms of advanced safety features like automatic emergency braking or lane departure warning.

2010 Dodge Journey Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2010 Dodge Journey ranged from approximately $20,000 to $28,000, depending on the trim and options. Current used market prices typically range from $4,000 to $8,000, depending on condition, mileage, and location. The Journey has experienced significant depreciation due to its reliability concerns and age. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, maintenance history, mileage, and whether it has the desirable third-row seating. Models with the V6 engine and all-wheel drive may hold slightly better value.

2010 Dodge Journey Cost of Ownership

The 2010 Dodge Journey can be relatively costly to own in the long run. Insurance costs are average for its class. However, fuel economy is below average, especially with the V6 engine. Maintenance and repair costs can be higher than average due to potential reliability issues. Long-term ownership costs should factor in potential expenses for transmission repairs, electrical problems, and rust mitigation. It is generally not considered an economical vehicle to own compared to its rivals.

2010 Dodge Journey Insurance

Insurance for a 2010 Dodge Journey is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan E-49 with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2010 Dodge Journey Compare to Other Sedan E-49?

The 2010 Dodge Journey competed with vehicles like the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Chevrolet Equinox, and Nissan Rogue. In terms of performance, the Journey's base engine was underpowered compared to some rivals, while the V6 offered adequate power but at the expense of fuel economy. Feature-wise, it offered similar basic amenities, but its tech lagged behind some competitors. Reliability is where the Journey significantly falls short compared to the RAV4 and CR-V, which are known for their dependability. Price was the Journey's primary advantage; it was often more affordable than its rivals.

Better alternatives include the Toyota RAV4 or Honda CR-V for their superior reliability and resale value. The Chevrolet Equinox offers a more modern interior and improved fuel economy. The Nissan Rogue provides a comfortable ride and decent fuel efficiency. If affordability is the absolute top priority, the Journey could be considered, but only with a thorough inspection and awareness of its potential issues. Otherwise, investing in a more reliable and efficient alternative is generally recommended.

Final Verdict: Is the 2010 Dodge Journey a Good Sedan E-49?

The 2010 Dodge Journey is ideal for budget-conscious buyers needing affordable three-row seating. However, its reliability issues and below-average fuel economy make it a risky purchase. It's only worth buying used and under specific conditions: a thorough pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic, a clean vehicle history report, and a price that reflects its potential repair costs. Look for models with a well-documented maintenance history. The V6 engine offers better performance, but be mindful of the lower fuel economy. Otherwise, consider more reliable alternatives in the same class.

BE PREPARED TO PAY OVER ODDS FOR SERVICE/LABOUR

Whoever designed the Dodge Journey 2010 was not thinking of the cost to owners to get their vehicle services. To install a new battery $410 - $170 for the battery, remainder was for labour and taxes!!! WHY WOULD YOU PUT THE BATTERY IN THE WHEEL WELL? A new alternator $610 + 2 1/2 hours labour @ $89 an hour!!! Service vehicle $180 + 2 1/2 hours Labour @ $89 an hou!!!

It is getting too expensive to fix,

Problems with the horn going off on its own. It is not a recall but it is a poor design. Experiencing electrical problems that also not a recall but are potentially dangerous if left unattended. Expensive to fix. I love my journey but I may have to replace due to expensive repairs. I've already put over5k in it in the last 2 years.

Good overall vehicle

We have had this 2010 Journey for 8 years and it has been a dependable family vehicle. Gas mileage is reasonable, power is OK but nothing to scream about, dependability has been good with the exception of the rear struts which were completely worn out at 60 thousand miles and the engine does have a tick/knock when first started but has been doing that for years and doesn't seem to be getting any worse. I would recommend it as a good vehicle for the price.

It's a good SUV.

The car drives smoothly, the transmission is perfect, the AC is chilling, the heater is hot. It has cruise control and all the USB ports works well. A nice car for the price.
