The 2015 BMW M6 is a high-performance grand tourer that blends luxury with exhilarating power. Part of the F12/F13/F06 generation (2012-2018), it's available as a Coupe, Convertible, and Gran Coupe (four-door coupe). Key trims include the base M6 and Competition Package. It stands out for its potent twin-turbo V8 engine, sophisticated styling, and comfortable yet sporty driving experience. Original pricing ranged from around $113,000 to $120,000+ depending on configuration.
The Good

The 2015 BMW M6 boasts incredible performance from its turbocharged V8, delivering thrilling acceleration. Its luxurious interior and comfortable ride make it suitable for long journeys. The stylish design appeals emotionally, while the robust engine (despite some known issues) and available technology offer practical advantages. While not the most efficient, it provides a unique blend of power and comfort.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2015 BMW M6 include oil leaks (especially around the turbochargers and valve covers), potential DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) issues, and the cost of maintenance and repairs. The high-performance engine requires meticulous care. Early model years of this engine family are known to have potential rod bearing issues, so careful inspection and maintenance records are crucial.

What Problems Does the 2015 BMW M6 Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2015 BMW M6, and the S63 engine in general, include oil leaks from various locations such as the valve cover gaskets, turbocharger oil lines, and oil pan. These leaks can become significant over time and require costly repairs.
Another potential concern is the Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT). Some owners have reported rough shifting, hesitation, or even complete failure, especially under demanding driving conditions. Regular fluid changes are crucial for DCT longevity.
Early versions of the S63 engine were known for potential rod bearing issues, although improvements were made over the years. However, it's still wise to check for any signs of engine knocking or unusual noises, and to have oil analysis performed regularly.
Recalls for the 2015 M6 could vary depending on the specific build date and equipment. It's essential to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any outstanding recalls related to your specific VIN. Common recall areas for BMWs of this era include fuel pump issues, airbag inflator problems (Takata recall), and potential issues with the electronic stability control system.
Long-term reliability depends heavily on maintenance. Neglecting regular servicing can lead to premature wear and tear on critical components, resulting in expensive repairs down the line.

How long will the 2015 BMW M6 last?

With proper maintenance, a 2015 BMW M6 can provide well over 150,000 miles or 10+ years of service. However, reaching this milestone hinges on diligent upkeep. Key maintenance includes frequent oil changes with high-quality synthetic oil, regular DCT fluid replacements, and proactive addressing of any oil leaks or cooling system issues. Neglecting these aspects can significantly shorten the lifespan of the engine and transmission. Long-term weaknesses often manifest as increased oil consumption, turbocharger wear, and potential electronic gremlins. Suspension components may also require replacement over time.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2015 BMW M6 comes equipped with a generous array of built-in tech, entertainment, driver-assistance, and safety features. Standard features include BMW's iDrive infotainment system with a 10.2-inch display, navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, a Harman Kardon surround sound system, and USB/auxiliary inputs.
Driver-assistance features include parking sensors, a rearview camera, and automatic headlights. Optional driver-assistance packages offered features like lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, forward collision warning, and pedestrian detection. Night vision with pedestrian detection was also available as a standalone option.
Safety features encompass antilock brakes, stability control, traction control, and a suite of airbags (front, side, and curtain). The M6 also features BMW Assist eCall emergency system, which can automatically contact emergency services in the event of an accident.
Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA for the M6 specifically may be limited, as high-performance models are not always tested. However, the 6 Series, upon which the M6 is based, generally performed well in crash tests, offering good occupant protection. Always check official ratings for the most accurate information.

2015 BMW M6 Prices and Market Value

The 2015 BMW M6 had a starting MSRP of around $113,000. The Gran Coupe and Convertible variants commanded slightly higher prices. Used market prices vary greatly depending on mileage, condition, and options, but typically range from $30,000 to $50,000. The M6 has experienced significant depreciation due to its high initial cost and higher running expenses. Factors affecting resale value include maintenance history, accident-free status, low mileage, and the presence of desirable options like the Competition Package or carbon ceramic brakes. Color combinations also play a role in desirability.

2015 BMW M6 Cost of Ownership

The 2015 BMW M6 is a costly vehicle to own. Insurance premiums are high due to its performance capabilities and value. Fuel economy is poor, especially in city driving. Maintenance and repair costs are significant, particularly for specialized components like the DCT and turbochargers. Regular servicing is crucial, and unexpected repairs can be expensive. Long-term ownership requires a dedicated budget for upkeep. This is not an economical vehicle.

2015 BMW M6 Insurance

Insurance for a 2015 BMW M6 is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Coupe with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2015 BMW M6 Compare to Other Coupe?

The 2015 BMW M6 competes with vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG, Audi RS7, and Porsche Panamera. In terms of performance, the M6 offers comparable acceleration and handling to its rivals. Feature-wise, it's well-equipped, but some competitors might offer slightly more advanced technology.
Reliability is where the M6 lags slightly behind some rivals. The Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG, while also complex, has a slightly better reputation for reliability. The Porsche Panamera generally scores higher in reliability surveys.
Price-wise, the M6 was competitive when new, but depreciation makes it an interesting proposition on the used market. However, keep running costs in mind.
Alternatives to consider include:
  • Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG: Offers similar performance and luxury, potentially better reliability.
  • Audi RS7: All-wheel drive provides enhanced traction, stylish design.
  • Porsche Panamera: Superior handling and build quality, higher long-term reliability, but potentially more expensive.
Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual priorities. If performance and styling are paramount, and you're prepared for potentially higher maintenance costs, the M6 is a compelling option. Otherwise, the CLS63 AMG or Panamera might be better alternatives.

Final Verdict: Is the 2015 BMW M6 a Good Coupe?

The 2015 BMW M6 is ideal for enthusiasts who crave exhilarating performance, luxurious comfort, and a striking design. It's worth buying if you're aware of its potential maintenance needs and are prepared to invest in its upkeep. Buying used is generally recommended due to significant depreciation. Consider a well-maintained example with a comprehensive service history. The Competition Package enhances the driving experience, but adds complexity. A pre-purchase inspection by a qualified BMW mechanic is essential. It's a thrilling grand tourer, but only for those who can afford to keep it running properly.

BMW M6 The last generation of the recent time

If Mercedes offers the new S-coupe, or even more exotic version of that like the new s coupe Maybach which enters the market that only Bentley and Rolls-Royce use to dictate, Audi give us the new R8, there is always the Porsche and if 6 series is the best BMW can do in coupes, it's not gonna end well for BMW. Not saying that 6 series is not a good car, just in the opposite its awesome, but its just not gonna be good enough to compare with the Mercedes' version, so that's why BMW is taking it off the shelf and replace it with the new 8 series. This might be both bad news and good news for those who is planning to get one soon, expect for the fact that it's the last generation so the value of the car will remain pretty much the same, if you can keep it in a really good condition, it's gonna bring you a fortune in the near future, but also the size of the car and the performance are actually just in the sweetest spot, it's super elegant and sporty looking but not to a point that it looks like a car that people would drive it in the fast and furious movie, it's more like a car that people would drive it in a bond film, like a guy with good shaped body, but instead of wearing a tank top to show if off, he chose to wear a suit. The exhaust sounds beautiful but only when you want it to be, it's not gonna go crazy in the 2000 rpm, but once it hit 3000, it's like that like guy with super fit body rips of his shirt after he took of his suit. Interior and the technology are also wonderful, easy to use and once you get use to it, it becomes so handy that you can operate it in your dream. The only disadvantages of this car might be the truck space, but you are not going to be driving this car to Costco every sunday afternoon, so you will be fine.

FUn to Drive a Real Head Turner

I went from an exotic to the BMW M6 and haven't regretted my decision. Being over 6 foot tall the M6 has plenty of cabin space which make the ride enjoyable. While not the quickest car off the line it does have plenty of power under the hood to make you presence known. The M6 gets attention so be prepared to have people drooling over it at stop lights....
