The Good

The 2018 BMW M6 delivers exhilarating performance from its potent V8, appealing to the emotional buyer. Practically, it offers a comfortable and luxurious interior for long journeys. Its sleek design turns heads, while its relative reliability (compared to other high-performance cars) and GT capability make it a versatile and desirable vehicle.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2018 BMW M6 include its high running costs, including fuel and maintenance. Some owners report issues with electronics and the complex drivetrain. What Problems Does the 2018 BMW M6 Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2018 BMW M6 can include issues with the twin-turbo V8 engine, such as oil leaks and potential for turbocharger failure, although these are not widespread. Electronic glitches, particularly with the iDrive system and various sensors, have also been reported. Some owners have experienced issues with the dual-clutch transmission, especially with harsh shifting or premature wear.
Recalls affecting this generation M6 have been issued for problems related to the fuel pump and fuel filter flange which could potentially lead to fuel leaks and fire risk. It's crucial to check the VIN for any outstanding recalls.
Long-term reliability concerns generally revolve around the complexity of the engine and drivetrain, potentially leading to costly repairs as the car ages. Regular maintenance, using high-quality fluids, and addressing issues promptly are essential for mitigating these risks. Inspecting the cooling system and addressing any signs of overheating is also advised.

How long will the 2018 BMW M6 last?

With proper maintenance, a 2018 BMW M6 can realistically provide 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-15 years of service. However, diligent maintenance is critical. Long-term durability hinges on addressing potential weaknesses proactively. These include the cooling system, turbochargers, and dual-clutch transmission. Neglecting maintenance can lead to accelerated wear and expensive repairs. Regular oil changes, fluid flushes, and inspection of critical components are vital to maximize longevity. Some sources recommend more frequent oil changes than BMW suggests.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2018 BMW M6 boasts a comprehensive suite of technology. Standard features include BMW's iDrive infotainment system with a 10.2-inch display, navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay (subscription required), and a Harman Kardon surround-sound system.
Driver-assistance features include a rearview camera, parking sensors, and a head-up display. Optional features include blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking.
Safety features include multiple airbags, stability control, and traction control. While the 2018 BMW M6 has not been specifically crash-tested by the NHTSA or IIHS, the 6 Series Gran Coupe (related platform) received good ratings in various crash tests. It's important to check the latest safety information from these agencies. The iDrive system, while powerful, can sometimes have a steep learning curve for new users.

2018 BMW M6 Prices and Market Value

The 2018 BMW M6 had a starting MSRP of around $119,000-$125,000 depending on body style. Current used market prices typically range from $45,000 to $65,000, depending on mileage, condition, and options. The M6 depreciates considerably, especially in the first few years. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, condition, maintenance history, optional equipment (like the Competition Package), and color. Well-maintained examples with desirable options command higher prices. Low-mileage examples are highly sought after.

2018 BMW M6 Cost of Ownership

The 2018 BMW M6 is a costly vehicle to own. Insurance rates are high due to its performance capabilities and value. Fuel costs are significant, given its fuel economy. Maintenance and repairs can be expensive, especially with specialized parts and labor. Long-term ownership costs are considerably higher than those of a mainstream vehicle. Budgeting for potential repairs is crucial to avoid financial surprises. This is not an economical car.

Driving has become an experience

We bought our 2018 bmw m6 gran coupe fully loaded and the best color blk/blk brand new. As the delivery guy unloaded it he could not wait to show me everything with a huge smile he said it was smooth as ice. We drive it regularly and it is an every day driver with ease it is very smooth in comfort mode and then in race car mode it just wants to go 🙂 It was built for the highway it commands control and horsepower and looks pretty darn good doing it. It roars a sound of lightning fromthe sky.The lighting and comfort are spectacular and the electronics are second to one. Its an experience every time we go anywhere and we always have somewhere to go !!!!

When you get in this car you have arrived

I currently own the 2018 bmw m6 gran coupe fully loaded including the comp package. I?m a firm believer in you get what you pay for and @ 153k we better be getting a lot. After driving this car it?s smooth enough for every day driving in comfort mode but when switched into sport mode this car comes alive. We thoroughly tested it on the I-15 heading into Las Vegas. And it was king of the highway it handled and ran like a lion all day long and it?s sound is unbelievable it?s prowess on the road is stealth like but when it comes up on you the roar is telling you it?s something special and as the day turned to night the car illuminates and night vision makes this car day or night something spectacular.

Jaw Dropping to drive!

Professional Package is a MUST! Makes a huge difference! Night and day! Tight, Fast and none of the Marshmallow of artificial suspension feel and under/over steer using power assisted steering- Suspension is very clean and responsive! This car is very fast off the line and at the mid power band- 80 MPH to 129 MPH in an absolute goose-bump producing blink of an eye. My 11th BMW l( Last was the 650ix) and my very first " M" - I love this body style- not the "everyday" sedan- Matte Painted - Frosted Metallic White....Was holding out for the new 8 series.... where the 6 coupe will likely resurrect... Lost patience and glad I did! Bought from a great old school BMW Dealer in FW- off White Settlement Drive.
