The GMC Acadia, introduced in 2007, is a mid-size SUV known for its blend of comfort and utility. The 2023 model continues this tradition with a focus on spaciousness and a refined driving experience. It's offered in SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali trims. Pricing ranges approximately from $37,000 to $50,000, depending on the trim and options. Its popularity stems from its upscale appeal compared to some competitors, a comfortable ride, and available advanced technology.
The Good

The 2023 GMC Acadia offers a comfortable ride and a stylish design, appealing to emotional buyers. Practically, it provides a spacious interior suitable for families and cargo. The available V6 engine offers adequate performance. While not class-leading in fuel efficiency, it presents decent value considering its features and upscale image. Reliability is generally good but not exceptional.

The Bad

The 2023 GMC Acadia's weaknesses include a smaller third-row seat compared to some rivals, which may not be comfortable for adults. Some reviewers have noted the infotainment system can be slow to respond at times. Fuel economy isn't the best in the segment. Transmission performance could be smoother under certain driving conditions.

What Problems Does the 2023 GMC Acadia Have?

While the 2023 GMC Acadia is relatively new, some common problems reported across recent Acadia model years include issues with the transmission, such as rough shifting or hesitation. Some owners have reported problems with the infotainment system, including freezing or lagging. Issues related to the electrical system, like battery drain or sensor malfunctions, have also been reported. Specific to newer models, some have pointed out the complexity of the electronic safety features and potential for glitches.

Recalls are tracked by the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). It's crucial to check the NHTSA website for any active recalls related to the 2023 model year, as these can address safety-related concerns. Past Acadia models have had recalls for issues ranging from seat belt malfunctions to brake system problems. Long-term reliability can be a concern for any vehicle. Some potential areas to watch include the timing chain (common in some GM V6 engines), the automatic transmission, and the durability of electronic components. Regular maintenance and addressing any issues promptly can help mitigate long-term reliability concerns.

How long will the 2023 GMC Acadia last?

With proper maintenance, a 2023 GMC Acadia can reasonably be expected to last for 150,000 to 200,000 miles, or 10-13 years of service. This assumes regular oil changes, timely replacement of wear items (brakes, tires), and addressing any mechanical issues promptly. Long-term durability can be affected by the transmission, which has been a point of concern for some owners in previous model years. Careful driving habits can extend the life of the transmission. Rust can also become a factor in regions with harsh winters and road salt. Keeping the vehicle clean and addressing any paint chips promptly can help prevent rust. The electronic components are also a potential area of weakness over time.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2023 GMC Acadia comes equipped with a range of tech, entertainment, driver-assistance, and safety features.

Tech & Entertainment: Standard features include an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and multiple USB ports. Higher trims offer features like a Bose premium audio system, navigation, and a head-up display.

Driver-Assistance Features: Standard safety features include automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist. Optional features include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, HD Surround Vision, and enhanced automatic emergency braking.

Safety Features: The Acadia features a suite of airbags, stability control, and traction control systems. Higher trims include more advanced safety features.

Optional Features: Tech and safety upgrades are often bundled into packages. Examples include the Technology Package with HD Surround Vision and Head-Up Display, and the Driver Alert Package with more advanced safety systems. The Trailering Package adds features for towing.

Crash-Test Ratings: It's important to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) websites for the latest crash-test ratings for the 2023 GMC Acadia. These ratings provide an assessment of the vehicle's performance in various crash scenarios.

2023 GMC Acadia Prices and Market Value

The 2023 GMC Acadia had a starting MSRP of around $37,000 for the base SLE trim, reaching upwards of $50,000 for the fully-equipped Denali. Used market prices currently range from the low $30,000s to the upper $40,000s, depending on mileage, condition, and trim level. The Acadia depreciates at a moderate rate, influenced by factors such as mileage, condition, accident history, and overall demand for mid-size SUVs. Higher trims like the Denali tend to hold their value better. Regular maintenance and a clean title also positively impact resale value.

2023 GMC Acadia Cost of Ownership

Insurance costs for the 2023 GMC Acadia are typically moderate, reflecting its mid-size SUV status. Fuel costs can be moderate to high, depending on the engine and driving habits. Maintenance costs are average for its class. Repairs can be expensive, especially if they involve the transmission or complex electronic systems. Overall, the Acadia is not the most economical SUV to own, due to factors like fuel consumption and potential repair costs, but it is also not the most expensive.

2023 GMC Acadia Insurance

Insurance for a 2023 GMC Acadia is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2023 GMC Acadia Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2023 GMC Acadia competes with the Ford Explorer, Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, and Kia Telluride. In terms of performance, the Acadia's V6 is competitive, but the Explorer offers more powerful engine options. Feature-wise, the Acadia is well-equipped, especially in higher trims, but the Telluride offers similar or better features at a lower price. Reliability is generally good, but the Highlander and Pilot have a stronger track record. Price-wise, the Acadia sits in the middle of the pack.

Alternatives to consider include the Toyota Highlander, known for its reliability and fuel efficiency; the Honda Pilot, offering a spacious interior and strong resale value; and the Kia Telluride, providing excellent value with its features and stylish design. The Ford Explorer offers more powerful engine options, but its reliability has been a concern for some. Whether the Acadia is better than these alternatives depends on individual priorities. If reliability is paramount, the Highlander or Pilot might be preferable. If value is the main concern, the Telluride is a strong contender.

Final Verdict: Is the 2023 GMC Acadia a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2023 GMC Acadia is a suitable choice for families seeking a comfortable and stylish mid-size SUV. It's ideal for those who appreciate an upscale interior and available advanced technology. Whether it's worth buying depends on individual needs and priorities. A used Acadia can offer good value, especially if found in good condition with low mileage. Considering the SLT or AT4 trims provides a good balance of features and value. If reliability is a top priority, other options like the Toyota Highlander might be more suitable. A new Acadia provides the latest features and warranty, but at a higher price point. It's essential to weigh the pros and cons and compare it with competitors before making a decision.

Oh so many engine lights! New issues every month! Save yourself the headaches! No power on the highway, backseat is too tight to be used. Fuel economy is low 20s at best. LCD screen will black out on road trips. Oh wow, where do I stop?
