The Good
The 2005 Honda Element offers a blend of practicality and fun. Its reliable Honda engine provides adequate performance, while its spacious and configurable interior offers comfort and utility. The Element's unique design appeals to those seeking something different, and its relatively good fuel efficiency adds to its overall value. Emotionally, it's a vehicle for adventure; practically, it's a versatile hauler.
The Bad
Potential weaknesses of the 2005 Honda Element include wind noise due to its boxy shape and limited sound insulation. The rear clamshell doors can be inconvenient in tight parking spaces. Rust can be an issue in northern climates, so check the undercarriage. The rear skylight (if equipped) can leak. The plastic body panels can fade and become brittle with age.

What Problems Does the 2005 Honda Element Have?
Recalls for the 2005 Honda Element have been issued for issues such as potential fuel leakage and faulty airbag inflators. It's crucial to check the vehicle's VIN with the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) to ensure all applicable recalls have been addressed.
Long-term reliability concerns are primarily related to wear and tear items, such as suspension components and bushings. The engine and transmission are generally robust if properly maintained. However, neglecting maintenance can lead to issues. Earlier model years (2003-2004) had some reports of valve train noise, but this was less common in the 2005 model. Regular oil changes and timely replacement of wear items are key to maximizing the Element's lifespan.
How long will the 2005 Honda Element last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features included standard front airbags. The EX trim added side airbags. Anti-lock brakes (ABS) were standard on all trims. No traction control or stability control systems were available.
The 2005 Honda Element received generally good crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA. The NHTSA gave it four stars for frontal crash protection for both driver and passenger and five stars for side crash protection. The IIHS gave it a "Good" rating for frontal offset crash tests.
Optional features were limited. Some owners added aftermarket accessories like navigation systems, upgraded audio systems, and backup cameras. The focus of the Element was on practicality and durability rather than cutting-edge technology.

How Does the 2005 Honda Element Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?
Feature-wise, the Element stood out with its unique interior design and versatile cargo space. The RAV4 offered more traditional SUV features, while the Xterra focused on off-road capability. The xB was more focused on style and compact size.
Reliability is where the Element shined, often outperforming its rivals. Hondas of this era are very reliable and have a very low cost of ownership when maintained well. The Toyota RAV4 also enjoys a strong reputation for reliability, while the Xterra has more known issues.
Price-wise, the Element was competitive. Used prices are generally comparable to RAV4s in similar condition. The Xterra can often be found for less. The Scion xB is also typically less expensive.
Alternatives? A Toyota RAV4 of the same year is a great alternative that provides more traditional SUV functionality with very similar reliability. For people who need more off-road capability, an Xterra may fit the bill. For those seeking more modern features, consider a newer crossover SUV. But in terms of all-around versatility and reliability, the Element holds its own.

No regrets!I've had my 2005 element for 3years. It's had a new belt, oil change, and tires, so far. Not bad for 150000 miles. Cleaning is easy, and good visibility on the road. I do love it.

Funnest Camping vehicle everIts a great road tripping car, great on gas if it were an automatic but that would take all the fun away from this vehicle. The plastic material in floor lining is amazing if you have pets; wont have to worry about scratching cushions or dog hair.

Stylish, Practical and Great Overall Utility CarIf you are a traveler and enjoy driving around town, to the beach, mountains, lake or desert, this car is made for it all. I have the 4-wheel drive version so it is the most versatile version of them all. I love the way it looks. It's functional with fold up back seats, big cargo flatbed area in the back, unique side door openings, and great handling.
