The Good
The 2014 Hyundai Elantra offered strong value and fuel efficiency, appealing to practical buyers. Its stylish design and comfortable interior provided an emotional draw. While not a performance powerhouse, its adequate performance for daily driving and generally good reliability added to its appeal.
The Bad
Potential weaknesses of the 2014 Hyundai Elantra include reported issues with the engine (potential knocking sounds), and some electrical problems. The ride quality could be firmer than some prefer, and the interior materials, while decent, weren't the highest quality. Check for recalls related to steering or engine issues before purchasing.

What Problems Does the 2014 Hyundai Elantra Have?
Recalls for the 2014 Elantra have included concerns related to the power steering, which could potentially fail, increasing the risk of an accident. It's crucial to check the vehicle's VIN for any outstanding recalls before purchasing. Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the engine's durability and the potential for increased oil consumption over time. Suspension components and the air conditioning system can also exhibit problems as the car ages.
While not specific to the 2014 model year alone, the Elantra from this generation has occasionally faced reports of paint chipping or premature wear, particularly in areas exposed to harsh weather conditions. Regular maintenance, including oil changes and timely inspections, is vital for mitigating these potential issues and ensuring the long-term reliability of the vehicle. Consulting owner forums and checking for any Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) can provide valuable insights into specific problem areas and potential solutions.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern vehicles. A rearview camera was available on higher trims, but advanced systems like blind-spot monitoring or lane departure warning were not offered. Standard safety features included antilock brakes, stability control, traction control, and a full complement of airbags.
Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) were generally positive. The 2014 Elantra earned a "Top Safety Pick" award. NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) ratings varied, with some tests earning 4 or 5 stars out of 5. The Elantra's solid safety record contributed to its appeal as a safe and reliable vehicle for families and commuters. However, always verify specific crash test results for the exact model and trim level you are considering, as ratings can sometimes differ.

How Does the 2014 Hyundai Elantra Compare to Other Coupe?
In terms of performance, the Elantra's base engine was adequate, but the Sport trim offered a noticeable improvement. The Corolla prioritized fuel efficiency and reliability over sporty handling. The Civic offered a good balance, while the Mazda3 was the most fun to drive.
Alternatives to the 2014 Elantra include the Mazda3 (for driving enthusiasts), the Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla (for those prioritizing reliability), or potentially a newer model year of the Elantra itself, if the budget allows. Each offers a slightly different mix of attributes, so the best choice depends on individual priorities.

It is the only compact car that I could sit without my knees hitting the steering wheel and being able to comfortably extend my legs. I put my seat all the way back as you would expect which doesn't leave much room for passengers in the back seat, but it doesn't matter since I extremely rarely have passengers there.

My mother bought the 2014 Elantra Limited as a certifiedMy mother bought the 2014 Elantra Limited as a certified used car, got a GREAT PRICE, and ten years later (granted she is a granny and drives very little) not one problem mechanically, and it has not been stolen yet (that is the one negative thing I read about this year make and model) so hey got to give it 5 stars, based on my VERY PICKY MOMS REVIEW.....

Lock switch is dark at night. My experience has been fine. The only complant is that at night the window switch is lit but a huge safety issue is that the door lock switch is dark. I wanted to lock my door I couldn't see it. I knew we're it is but I shouldn't have to search for it when I feel threatened. Men don't need to have it lit but women do.

Suggestions?I bought my car used and must say its the best car ever. I love it. However im having a little problem with i guess electrical,in my dash and it sometimes not turning over. However, when i apply my brakes it straightens up. Weird. Im a single, unemployed female at this time so if anyone has an idea what this could be,please feel free to elaborate. Other than this problem. She is my baby. Love it.

Least reliable vehicle I have ever ownedI think the exterior is well desighned and looks sporty. I think the engine is crap and riddled with problems. This car started having engine issues at 74000 km. Dying . Would not start on cold mornings . Had it towed into the dealer. Several times . Sounded like a diesel no acceleration 1.8 engine. Hyundai taking no responsibilty for it. Saying its fine. Like its normal for a car to die every 20000 km or less. Had this car lose all engine capacity doing 100 km down the highway . It cut out died . As I tried to accelerate engine light came on . I lost amm stearing. I was able to coast it. And turn it over . Or I would be dead .. It is a DEATH TRAP !!!!
