The 2019 Mazda CX-3 is a subcompact crossover SUV, first introduced in 2015. Known for its stylish design and engaging driving dynamics, it comes in several trims including Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring. The 2019 model offered a refined driving experience and upgraded interior. New, its price ranged approximately from $20,000 to $27,000. Its stand-out features include its sporty handling and upscale interior styling that belies its affordable price point.
The Good

The 2019 Mazda CX-3 boasts responsive performance, good fuel efficiency, and a sleek, upscale design that's emotionally appealing. Practically, it offers decent reliability, comfortable front seats, and represents good value for money. Its nimble handling provides a fun driving experience, while its safety features offer peace of mind.

The Bad

The 2019 Mazda CX-3's main weaknesses include limited rear passenger space and cargo capacity, which can be cramped for some. Its infotainment system, while improved, is not as user-friendly as some competitors. Road noise can also be noticeable at highway speeds, and the ride can be firm over rough surfaces. Potential buyers should consider these limitations.

What Problems Does the 2019 Mazda CX-3 Have?

The 2019 Mazda CX-3 generally enjoys good reliability ratings. However, some owners have reported issues related to the infotainment system freezing or malfunctioning. Others have mentioned concerns about the paint chipping or being easily scratched, particularly on models with darker colors. Some complaints exist regarding the air conditioning system's performance in extremely hot weather.

Recalls for the 2019 model were relatively limited. It's important to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any specific recalls affecting your vehicle's VIN. Long-term reliability concerns are minimal, but regular maintenance, especially oil changes and transmission fluid checks, is crucial. Pre-purchase inspections are always recommended to identify any potential issues before buying a used model. While the engine itself is generally robust, keeping up with scheduled maintenance is key to preventing problems. Early model years (2016-2018) sometimes had more widespread infotainment complaints, so the 2019 model benefited from some improvements, although issues still occasionally surfaced.

How long will the 2019 Mazda CX-3 last?

With good maintenance habits, a 2019 Mazda CX-3 can easily reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles, or 10-15 years of service. Regular oil changes (every 7,500 miles or sooner), timely fluid replacements (transmission, coolant), and brake maintenance are crucial. Long-term durability is generally good, but potential weaknesses can include suspension components wearing out over time, especially in areas with poor road conditions. The infotainment system, while improved in 2019, could be a potential source of electronic issues down the line. Rust can become a concern in regions with salted roads, so undercarriage washing is recommended.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2019 Mazda CX-3 features the Mazda Connect infotainment system with a 7-inch display, controlled via a rotary knob and buttons. It includes Bluetooth connectivity, a rearview camera, and available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration (depending on the trim and packages). The Bose premium audio system is available on higher trims for enhanced entertainment.

Driver-assistance features include available blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. These features enhance safety and driver confidence. Standard safety features include antilock brakes, stability control, and a suite of airbags.

Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) are generally positive, with the 2019 CX-3 earning a "Top Safety Pick+" award when equipped with specific headlights. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) also provides overall safety ratings. The vehicle's strong safety cage and advanced driver-assistance systems contribute to its good safety performance. The lack of a touchscreen can be a drawback for some users, but the rotary dial is generally intuitive to use once accustomed to it. The optional navigation system provides turn-by-turn directions displayed on the 7-inch screen.

Current used market prices typically range from $14,000 to $20,000, depending on mileage, condition, and trim level. Depreciation is fairly average for its class. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, mileage, service history, and whether it's a FWD or AWD model (AWD typically commands a slightly higher price). A clean title and comprehensive service records also boost resale value.

Insurance for a 2019 Mazda CX-3 is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Wagon with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2019 Mazda CX-3 Compare to Other Wagon?

The 2019 Mazda CX-3 competes with vehicles like the Honda HR-V, Toyota C-HR, Hyundai Kona, and Nissan Kicks. The CX-3 stands out for its superior driving dynamics and more upscale interior compared to the HR-V and Kicks. The Kona offers similar performance and more distinctive styling. The C-HR prioritizes style over practicality.

In terms of reliability, the CX-3 is comparable to the HR-V and Kona. The Kicks is a more budget-friendly option, sacrificing some refinement and performance. Feature-wise, the CX-3 offers a decent range, but some rivals may have more advanced tech options. Price-wise, the CX-3 is generally competitive.

Alternatives to consider include the Hyundai Kona for its value and turbocharged engine options, or the Honda HR-V for its superior cargo space. The Kia Soul offers a unique design and spacious interior. While the CX-3 offers a fun driving experience, buyers prioritizing space or advanced technology might find other options more suitable. If driving enjoyment is paramount, the CX-3 remains a compelling choice. For pure practicality the HR-V is superior.

It's a worthwhile buy, especially on the used market, offering a premium feel at an affordable price. The Touring trim offers a good balance of features and value. Consider a used model to save money, and prioritize examples with comprehensive service records. If you need a spacious and practical SUV, other options might be better suited. However, if you value a fun-to-drive and well-appointed subcompact crossover, the CX-3 is an excellent choice, especially with its sporty handling.

I traded my 07’ Mx5 for a 2019 cx3 GT AWD crystal blue w

I traded my 07’ Mx5 for a 2019 cx3 GT AWD crystal blue w parchment leather. I love the cruise control you can set it and it basically drives itself. It will slow and speed up, it also stops for you if you’re at a stop and you don’t use the (auto hold) or forget to, if you start to go and there’s a car in front of you it will stop the car for you. It’s saved me from having an accident several times. It reminds me of my Mx5 of course that’s not a fair comparison, but it’s fun like my Mx5 just as fun in a different way. I like the size and all of the options. But the main reason why I choose the Cx3 is because I love the way it looks. Most smaller SUV’s are ugly. But the Cx3 is different. That’s probably why the Cx3 is still in production in some parts of the world. Yes there’s a 2024 Cx3 and it hasn’t changed much in almost 10 years. Too bad it’s not still produced in the US. My best advice for anyone looking to buy a Cx3 is to test drive a few different trim levels. (Sport, Touring and Grand Touring) personally I can’t always see at night, so I decided that I needed the LED headlights and I wanted the Bose sound system. But after owning it for 5 years and 40k miles I think Bose car stereos are overrated. It shouldn’t be a dealbreaker the regular sound system is just as good. But really think about the features that are important to you, and don’t settle. For example If you want Car play or android auto, then tell the dealer that you want car play installed or your not going to buy from them and I’m going to bet that they’ll get it installed for you. Just keep in mind that the Sport model and the GT model are priced differently for a reason. Personally I have mixed feelings about the AWD system, it’s amazing how it works but I don’t think it’s necessary for the majority of people. Thanks for reading. I hope you find the car that works best for you.

So far so good!

It’s been wonderful to have a far and it’s running great and alignment is great. The only negative thing I can say is it smells like a heavy smoker had it and wasn’t aired out properly. But at least that’s the only draw back. I’ll take it!!

Love the all wheel drive . Excellent in gas , I really would like to know what the performance is in the snow . I won’t dare go throw flooded streets because I think the car is too low . Could use a couple of inches above ground

I love my Mazda CX3!

So far I love it! Beautiful exterior and interior, it's supposed to be small but it does feel small to me, it's exactly what I need and it drives really smoothly I also like that it has a nice kick to it so when I need it to react fast it reacts quickly. Super comfy too!

Good value for a midlevel subcompact

I do appreciate what this car offers: safety, good gas economy, heated seats, fold down seats, plenty of charger ports (3+), good sound system, comfortable bucket seats, and blind spot warnings, automatic transmission (NOT CVT) What I wish this car had: would have loved a sunroof, the leg room if you have long legs is TERRIBLE, trunk space given its a crossover is not great, doesnt have lane assist or anything "fancy" like that. I struggle with blind spot visibility sometimes for when i want to turn and look. I got lucky and got a 2019 with 6k miles on it for a great price, always ask dealers for loaner cars for sale! Overall, this is a good car for getting from A to B; you're just going to have to shell out for the features more so than you would on a competing car (HRV, for example).I ultimately went with this car due to the price point, safety, warranty, and reliability rating. Mazda is now above Honda. I refuse to drive a CVT after my Nissan repeatedly died.

2nd Mazda CX-3 I have leased.

I love this small car. It's nimble and responsive; manoeuvrable; easy to park; good safety features. This car is being phased out. I had to lease the 2019, as the dealership wasn't sure they would receive any grand touring CX-3's in a 2020 model. The primary use was in-city driving, not commuting, see below.

Love, love love this car

This is my second CX3. It just fits me perfectly. They improved the center console from my previous one, otherwise not much difference. I love driving this car and just looking at it makes me smile. Although the horsepower doesn't seem like a lot, the torque ratio makes all the difference, it has plenty of "git up and go". I went down from a Grand Touring to a Touring this time and thought only thing I would miss was the heads up display (which is phenomenal) but what I realize now is that I miss the Self Locking feature. If I walked away with the key, the car locked itself. Genius. Still have heated seats and mirrors, Blind spot warning. It's front wheel drive, but no "torque steer". Basically I love this car.

Nicest car ever!!

So far so good. For being a smaller car (it is smaller than my sedan), it is very spacious and doesn’t feel small. The was of driving it and I am short in height. I can see fine. I feel safe especially on our icy roads
