The 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT is a high-performance sports car, born from Mercedes-AMG's dedication to racing and exhilarating driving experiences. It boasts a sleek, coupe body style (also available as a roadster). Model years span from 2015 onwards. Key trims include the base GT, GT S, GT C, and the potent GT R. New pricing ranged from around $112,000 to $160,000+. Its handcrafted engine, striking design, and track-inspired performance are major reasons for its popularity.
The Good

The 2017 AMG GT offers blistering performance and a stunning design, appealing to emotional buyers. Practically, it provides a luxurious interior, comfortable ride (relative to its class), and respectable reliability for a high-performance vehicle. While not the most efficient, its power delivery and driving dynamics are exceptional. The value proposition is strong, offering a potent competitor in the sports car market.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2017 AMG GT include limited rear visibility, especially in the coupe. Some owners have reported minor electrical glitches. The infotainment system can feel dated compared to newer models. Also, be mindful of expensive maintenance and repair costs associated with a high-performance vehicle. What Problems Does the 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Have?

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT, while generally reliable for a high-performance vehicle, has some frequently reported issues. Some owners have reported minor electrical issues, such as sensor malfunctions or glitches with the infotainment system. Others have mentioned premature tire wear, which is common in performance cars driven aggressively. There have also been reports of occasional issues with the transmission, such as rough shifting, especially in early production models.
Recalls for the 2017 AMG GT are relatively rare, but it's crucial to check the NHTSA website for any outstanding recalls related to safety or emissions. Long-term reliability concerns primarily revolve around the complexity of the engine and electronics. High-performance engines require meticulous maintenance, and neglecting scheduled service can lead to costly repairs down the line. Oil leaks can become a problem as the car ages. Carbon ceramic brakes, while offering incredible stopping power, are incredibly expensive to replace. Before purchasing a used 2017 AMG GT, it is essential to have a pre-purchase inspection performed by a qualified mechanic specializing in Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

How long will the 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT last?

With proper maintenance, a 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT can easily reach 150,000 miles or more. Years of service can extend well beyond a decade with diligent care. Long-term durability hinges on consistent maintenance, especially oil changes and regular inspections. Weaknesses can emerge over time in the form of worn suspension components, potential oil leaks from seals and gaskets, and degradation of rubber parts. The infotainment screen can also become susceptible to issues with age. Models with extensive track use may experience more accelerated wear and tear.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT comes equipped with a COMAND infotainment system featuring an 8.4-inch display, navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, and a premium sound system. Entertainment features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration (availability may vary). Standard driver-assistance features encompass a rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keeping assist. Optional features include adaptive cruise control, parking assist, and a surround-view camera system.
Safety features include multiple airbags, stability control, and anti-lock brakes. While the NHTSA and IIHS may not have specifically crash-tested the AMG GT, Mercedes-Benz vehicles are generally known for their robust safety engineering. Given its low-volume production and specialized nature, official crash test ratings are less common for this model. However, it benefits from Mercedes-Benz's extensive safety technology and construction methods. Regular maintenance of safety systems, such as brake inspections and airbag system checks, is crucial for long-term safety.

2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT ranged from approximately $112,000 to over $160,000, depending on the trim and options. Current used market prices range from around $70,000 to $110,000+, depending on condition, mileage, and specific model. The AMG GT depreciates, but retains value better than some other luxury sports cars due to its performance and exclusivity. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, condition, service history, color, and optional equipment. The GT R trim commands the highest resale value.

2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Cost of Ownership

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT is a costly vehicle to own long-term. Insurance premiums are high due to its performance capabilities. Fuel costs are considerable, especially with spirited driving. Maintenance, including scheduled services and tire replacements, is expensive. Repairs can be particularly costly due to the complexity of the engine and specialized parts. It is not an economical vehicle; prospective owners should factor in these expenses.

Insurance for a 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Compare to Other Vehicle?

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT competes with the Porsche 911, Audi R8, Jaguar F-Type, and Aston Martin Vantage. In terms of performance, the AMG GT rivals the 911 and R8, offering similar acceleration and handling. Feature-wise, it's comparable but the infotainment system is less intuitive than the Porsche or Audi. Reliability is generally good, but the Porsche 911 has a slight edge in long-term dependability. The AMG GT's price point sits between the Jaguar F-Type and the Porsche 911, offering a competitive value proposition.
Alternatives to consider include the Porsche 911, renowned for its handling and driver involvement, and the Audi R8, which provides a more refined and technologically advanced experience. The Jaguar F-Type offers a more affordable entry point into the sports car segment, while the Aston Martin Vantage boasts a more exclusive and luxurious experience. The Porsche 911 might be a "better" all-rounder with stronger reliability, but the AMG GT offers a distinctive and aggressive driving experience that appeals to many.

I like this car more every time I drive it.

Coming from a Porsche 911 Turbo after owning a string of Porsches it took a while to get used to the long hood of the GT. After a couple days I was comfortable and the car feels great and the size disappears around me the car makes me grin every time I drive it and that’s the objective when you purchase a sports car. Being able to open the baffles of the exhaust and make the car louder on demand is a great feature. You can drive this car like a race car or just sit back and let it drive like a luxury car.

Incredible supercar value!

The AMG GT S is the steal of the decade. It is a proper supercar at a mid-tier 911 price point. The interior and exterior are exquisite. The engineering and build quality are all AMG which shines through the entire car. As the only vehicle built 100% by AMG vs. supplying the engine, the racing heritage and intentional design to maintain its integrity at speed is obvious.

Beautiful looking car but seats are appaulling

Extremely good under high speed with lots of power. However the stiff suspension and poor seating makes this car dissatisfying to drive. A beautiful car to look at, but you never feel relaxed or comfortable to drive.

Really fun but really skinny seats

This car drives and corners amazingly. It looks great. Bystanders admire the car all the time. Visibility of its corners is poor. The seats are very hard and skinny. If you are 6' and 200
