The 2016 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT is a high-performance sports car born from the heritage of Mercedes-AMG. It boasts a stunning coupe body style, offering exhilarating performance and luxurious features. The AMG GT model years began in 2015. Key trims included the base AMG GT and the more powerful AMG GT S. Pricing ranged from around $110,000 to $130,000 when new. Its combination of potent engines, striking design, and advanced technology makes it a highly desirable sports car.
The Good

The 2016 AMG GT delivers blistering performance and stunning design, appealing emotionally. Practically, it offers surprising comfort for a sports car, a well-appointed interior, and Mercedes-Benz build quality. While not the most efficient, it's relatively reasonable for its performance class. Strong resale value also makes it a decent investment.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2016 AMG GT include its limited rear visibility and relatively small cargo space, which can be impractical. Some owners have reported issues with the infotainment system. The stiff suspension, while contributing to its performance, can be uncomfortable on rough roads. Maintenance costs can be high.

What Problems Does the 2016 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2016 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT are relatively limited compared to other vehicles, but some issues have surfaced. One common complaint involves the COMAND infotainment system, which can experience glitches, slow response times, or connectivity issues. Some owners have reported problems with the electronic parking brake, requiring recalibration or replacement. Minor electrical issues, such as sensor malfunctions, have also been reported.
Recalls for the 2016 AMG GT have been issued, primarily related to potential fuel leaks or issues with the steering system. It's crucial to check the vehicle's VIN with the NHTSA to ensure all applicable recalls have been addressed.
Long-term reliability concerns mainly revolve around the complex electronic systems and the potential for expensive repairs related to the AMG performance components. Regular maintenance, including fluid changes and inspections, is essential to mitigate potential issues. The twin-turbo V8 engine is generally robust, but proper care is crucial to prevent problems related to oil leaks or turbocharger issues. Overall, the 2016 AMG GT tends to be fairly reliable, but the cost of repairs can be significant.

How long will the 2016 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT last?

With proper maintenance, a 2016 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT can easily reach 150,000 miles or more, providing over 10 years of service. Average mileage will vary greatly depending on usage. Long-term durability is generally good, but key areas to watch include the suspension components, which can wear down due to the car's performance nature. The infotainment system might show its age over time, potentially requiring updates or replacement. Regular servicing, especially oil changes and inspections of the cooling system, is vital for the engine's longevity.

First off all. This car is 100% gangster, legit to the core. The level of performance, curb appeal, and luxury refinement is unparalleled. Its the nicest car I've ever owned. Literally, every time and I mean every time I take it out people stop and stare, kids cheer, it turns heads. I don't know how else to describe it, but It makes you feel special when you drive it. The hydraulic steering is superb. The "I am Legend" pandemic runs I had in it we're amazing. Its like the more you push it, the more confidence inspiring it gets. It makes you feel like you are some kind of road boss, where you can just mob down any road or car you want; effortlessly. This is especially true when you put it Sport+. And the exhaust sound - forget about it! Its so bad xxx - super addicting. ** The one thing you must be careful of is: 120 mph feels like 30 mph. So you really have to watch your speed. It was designed to be an Autobahn ripper - so it has a way of "velocit-izing" you. It took me ~2-4 weeks to get used to driving it after coming off a Porsche 911. The hood is long, and its a big car. But it doesn't feel like it when you're driving it. The seats are very comfortable, which provides a sort of xxxx-pit like experience. Because of the moon roof, it helps to make it feel like there is more room. I used it as fun weekend car whenever the weather was nice. So could you daily drive it? Yes. But its not designed for city street driving really. As I alluded to earlier - its for traveling at high speed over long distances kind of car. The only negative side I have is that for city driving its not that great. Specifically, the transmission is jerky if you only do stop-and-go type driving at low speed under 15 mph. Its not terrible, but if I had to do this type of driving day to day, I would choose another car. Finally, for me, this car represents freedom. Freedom to lose yourself in the driving experience. Where you become one with the car, explore, and have fun adventures. As soon as I get in it - its like all of my problems seem to slip away. Its a very rewarding car, and I strongly recommend it.

Best car I’ve ever owned. Went to the Mercedes dealer to buy a new SL. My wife spotted our car in the showroom . She sat in the car and said she likes this on. We took it for a test drive and we were hooked. Had to have it.

I've been lucky to own many nice vehicles -- an Aston Vanquish, Gallardo Spyder, R8, many 911s, etc., but my 2016 Solarbeam Yellow AMG GTS is by far my favorite. The car looks incredible, and is more comfortable than you'd imagine for a two-door coupe. The steering is a bit twitchy, but once you're used to it, is not a problem. The VERY long front end, a hallmark of this beautiful car, can be a little tough when parking because the parking sensors aren't as accurate on the front. Short of these minor issues, I absolutely love mine and drive it daily. 6K miles and counting. Well done, AMG!

This car blows my mind. I can not believe I paid so much for a car that I thought would be the car of the century. It just is not. One of the pistons popped loose after 1 month of owning it. It simply fell off. HOW DOES THAT EVEN HAPPEN!!! It is not comfortable, it consumes to much gas. Keep trying Mercedes.

Current used market prices for a 2016 AMG GT typically range from $60,000 to $80,000, depending on mileage, condition, and options. Depreciation has been moderate, holding its value relatively well for a performance car. Lower mileage examples in excellent condition command the highest prices.

2016 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Cost of Ownership

Owning a 2016 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT is definitely not economical. Insurance costs are high due to the car's performance capabilities and value. How Does the 2016 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Compare to Other Coupe?

The 2016 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT competes with sports cars like the Porsche 911, Audi R8, and Jaguar F-Type R. In terms of performance, the AMG GT S offers comparable acceleration and handling to the 911 and R8, but the 911 has a wider range of models and driving experiences. The R8 boasts all-wheel drive, providing superior traction. The F-Type R offers a more visceral and raw driving experience.
Feature-wise, the AMG GT offers a luxurious interior and advanced technology, similar to the R8 but less customizable than the 911. Reliability-wise, the Porsche 911 generally has a stronger track record. The Jaguar F-Type R has a history of some reliability concerns.
Price-wise, the AMG GT falls in the middle, being more expensive than the F-Type but less than a similarly equipped 911 or R8.
Alternatives to consider include the Porsche 911 for its superior range and reliability, the Audi R8 for its all-wheel drive and exotic appeal, and the Jaguar F-Type R for its raw performance and lower price point. Each offers a unique driving experience, so personal preferences should be a key factor.

Best of the Best

This is by far the finest car I have ever owned. I have owned 109 cars according to USAA. Jag F Type R, Porsches, BMW M5, Mercedes CL55, SL63, Corvettes, Audi R8, ect... The AMG GT S is a classic beauty that does not shout (McLaren, Lambo, Ferarri) yet is within reach of the performance of those cars and at 30-50 % of the price. I am 6'3" and fit comfortably, not so in the R8 or 570s. I am a conservative person and do not want attention, however, I never had a car that attracted so much, and it is more respect than wow...AMG GT S is simply class and performance - aka the car that James Bond would really drive today.

Amazing super car!

Comfort is already stiff and aggressive, although it offers up a measure of Mercedes' trademark relaxed throttle tip-in. Sport ramps up the anger, Sport+ more still. Aggressive sound in the last two modes.

Most extrordinary sports car produced in a long ti

This vehicle combines both luxury with high performance, with the Mercedes panache to boot. It is a remarkable achievement in engineering. This car will give other sports car a reason to take notice and a force on the road to be reckoned with.

The sound of this car idling is sheer MUSIC

The car exceeded my expectations. Roomy cabin, excellent handling and braking, and power to spare. Did I mention its 'look.' If you see this car in your review mirror, you'll move over. Classy car.
