The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class is a compact roadster, part of the SLK's third generation (R172) which debuted in 2011. Key trims include the SLK250, SLK350, and the performance-oriented SLK55 AMG. New pricing ranged from approximately $43,000 to $68,000+. The SLK's retractable hardtop, providing coupe-like security and open-air thrills, combined with Mercedes-Benz luxury, made it a popular choice. Its agile handling also contributed to its appeal.
The Good

The 2013 SLK offers a compelling blend. Performance ranges from the efficient SLK250 to the thrilling SLK55 AMG. Comfort is paramount with a luxurious interior. The retractable hardtop provides year-round usability. For practical buyers, there's reasonable fuel efficiency in the base model. Emotionally, the SLK provides open-top driving pleasure and prestige.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2013 SLK include electrical issues, particularly with the retractable hardtop mechanism. What Problems Does the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2013 SLK-Class can include issues with the retractable hardtop mechanism. Some owners have reported problems with the hydraulic system, sensors, or linkages that operate the roof. Electrical glitches, particularly related to the COMAND infotainment system, are also noted. Sensor failures, such as those related to the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) or parking sensors, can occur. While less frequent, some owners have experienced issues with the engine, especially oil leaks or sensor malfunctions in the turbocharger of the SLK250. Transmission issues are less common but do appear in some reports. Recalls can be checked through the NHTSA website using the VIN. Long-term reliability concerns revolve around the complexity of the vehicle's systems. The retractable hardtop, numerous sensors, and sophisticated electronics can become sources of potential failures as the car ages. Preventative maintenance, especially concerning the hydraulic system of the roof and regular servicing of the engine and transmission, is critical to mitigating long-term reliability concerns.

How long will the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class last?

With good maintenance, a 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class can easily reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles or more. Proper maintenance habits, including regular oil changes, fluid checks, and addressing any issues promptly, are crucial. Years of service can extend well beyond a decade. However, long-term durability depends heavily on how the car was driven and maintained. Weaknesses over time often relate to the electrical systems, hydraulic components of the roof, and wear and tear on suspension components. The sophisticated electronic systems can also develop issues as they age.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2013 SLK-Class features the COMAND infotainment system with a central display screen, providing access to audio, navigation, and vehicle settings. Standard entertainment features include a CD player, Bluetooth audio streaming, and USB connectivity. Optional features included a Harman Kardon Logic7 surround-sound system. Driver-assistance features include standard stability control, anti-lock brakes, and traction control. Optional features consisted of blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.

Safety features included multiple airbags, including head and thorax airbags. mbrace2 telematics system offered emergency assistance and remote vehicle access.

Crash-test ratings from the IIHS and NHTSA were not comprehensive for the SLK-Class. However, Mercedes-Benz vehicles generally perform well in safety tests. The available driver-assistance features contribute to enhanced safety. The Retractable hardtop also adds to the overall safety as opposed to a soft top convertible. The car is relatively small so the safety ratings aren't completely comparable to larger vehicles.

The 2013 SLK-Class competes with the BMW Z4, Audi TT Roadster, and Porsche Boxster. In terms of performance, the SLK55 AMG rivals the Boxster S, while the SLK250 and SLK350 offer comparable performance to the Z4 and TT. The SLK offers a more luxurious interior compared to the Audi TT, while the BMW Z4 provides sportier handling. 2013 Classic White SLK250 lives on and well.

Surprisingly an excellent value for sports car. Bought mine used and quality is still intact. The reliability has proven to be very good. A fun DIY car that is easy to work on. Parts are priced reasonably well and readily available. The Mercedes roadability is the true fun factor. Classic Mercedes styling, being a unique hardtop convertible, and name, will win many over now in and in the future.

Luxury in a sportscar that is awesome to drive

I love to take the back roads with the top down and the music cranked. Handles and corners better than any vehicle I have ever driven.

Fun car to drive

I really liked the car. Lots of “extras”, had a manual and automatic transmission option which was unexpected and fun. The body had a few dings, but it is 8 years old so some marks are to be expected.

This is the third SLK I have owned

This is a great sports car. It has a retractable hardtop, so it like having a small coupe as well as a convertible at the same time, in less than 25 seconds you can go from one to the other. I find them very much problem free and fun to drive.

Most Beautiful Car I’ve Ever Owned

I wanted a Mercedes for a long time, and when it was time to trade in my Chrysler Sebring convertible, I conducted quite a bit of research, chose the model and years I wanted to see, then I headed over to Fletcher Jones Mercedes Benz in Newport Beach. I love the way this car handles, the interior is very comfortable and stylish, it’s loaded with lots of great features, and it gets great mileage both in the city and on the highway. I purchased a used Mercedes 250 SLK convertible from Fletcher Jones Mercedes Benz Newport Beach and the entire process from beginning to end was wonderful. I heartedly recommend purchasing a used Mercedes from Fletcher Jones Mercedes Benz Newport Beach salesperson Dean. We were having such a great time chatting that I nearly walked out without writing the check to purchase the car. I’m sure they would have figured it out if we had left without paying for it, but that just goes towards showing you that our purchasing experience was highly enjoyable. Oh, and free car washes for the life of the car, plus free coffees, lattes, cappuccinos and the like from their very fancy Italian beverage machines too. Can’t say enough good things about Fletcher Jones Mercedes Benz Newport Beach!

Fun convertible to drive. Great performance.

This has been a great car to drive. Always fun in the summer with the top down. The only reason I am selling is to get a car with a back seat. Otherwise I would keep this car for a lifetime of fun.

thats perfect for me

after driving the Pilot, Ridgeline, Highlander, Santa Fe, and several others, the Mercedes SLK-230 was by far the best value for my money. It is solidly built, quiet, and smooth. The ride is like a Lexus and it handles almost like a sedan
