The 2007 Mitsubishi Galant is a mid-size sedan that was part of the Galant's eighth generation (2004-2012). It offered a blend of sporty styling and practicality. Key trims included the DE, ES, LS, and Ralliart. New, the Galant ranged roughly from $18,000 to $26,000. It stood out with its aggressive front-end design and available V6 engine, appealing to buyers seeking a more dynamic alternative to mainstream sedans.
The Good

The 2007 Galant offers a comfortable ride and relatively spacious interior, appealing to practical buyers. Its sporty design and available V6 provide an emotional appeal for those seeking a more engaging driving experience. Reliability is generally good, and it often represents a strong value proposition on the used market.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2007 Galant include somewhat dated interior plastics and lower fuel economy compared to some competitors. The four-speed automatic transmission (in non-Ralliart models) can feel less responsive than newer transmissions. Watch for potential rust issues, especially in areas with road salt.

What Problems Does the 2007 Mitsubishi Galant Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2007 Mitsubishi Galant often revolve around general wear and tear items associated with a vehicle of that age. These can include issues with the air conditioning system (compressor failures), sensor malfunctions (e.g., oxygen sensors), and occasional transmission problems, especially in models that haven't received regular maintenance. Some owners have reported issues with rust, particularly in areas where road salt is used extensively.

Recalls for the 2007 Galant have addressed issues such as potential fuel leakage due to corrosion of the fuel filler pipe. It's crucial to check the vehicle's VIN with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to ensure all applicable recalls have been addressed.

Long-term reliability concerns generally relate to the age of the vehicle. Rubber components like hoses and belts can degrade over time. Regular maintenance, including fluid changes (engine oil, transmission fluid, coolant), is critical to maximizing the vehicle's lifespan. Pay close attention to the condition of the timing belt (if applicable, although the 2.4L uses a chain) to prevent costly engine damage. Proper care can significantly mitigate potential long-term reliability issues.

How long will the 2007 Mitsubishi Galant last?

With diligent maintenance, a 2007 Mitsubishi Galant can easily reach 200,000 miles or more. The key is consistent preventative maintenance, including timely oil changes, fluid flushes, and addressing minor repairs promptly. Many owners report 15-20 years of service life. However, neglecting maintenance can significantly shorten its lifespan. Weaknesses over time typically involve rust (especially in colder climates), suspension component wear, and potential issues with the automatic transmission if not properly maintained. Proper care extends durability significantly.

For a 2007 model Ralliart, I was expecting a lot less in performance. But wow was I surprised! This car, off the line, can keep up with many of the newer model cars. It acceleration is outstanding and it doesn't even have a supercharger or turbo. Highly recommended.

My galant gave me the security, safety, and room I needed with my daughter & Girl Scout troop! The performance was exceptionally amazing!! Never once was I left stuck or stranded. With regular visits to the shop I had her for 10 years. And probably still would had it not been taken from me on a repo 🙁 (stupid title loans) Biggest heartbreak ever when we parted ways. More reliable and dependable than most people y Galant offered nothing but smooth sailing. I would encourage anyone to test drive one and tell me you didn't become partial!!

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2007 Mitsubishi Galant's tech and safety features were fairly basic for its time.

Tech & Entertainment: Standard models typically included a basic AM/FM radio with a CD player. Higher trims (LS and Ralliart) might offer upgraded audio systems, sometimes with a multi-disc CD changer. Navigation was not a common factory option. Auxiliary input jacks for connecting external devices were not standard on all trims.

Driver-Assistance: Driver-assistance features were limited. ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) was standard, but features like traction control or electronic stability control were not available on all trims.

Safety Features: Standard safety equipment included front airbags and side-impact airbags. Some trims also had side curtain airbags.

Crash-Test Ratings: The 2007 Mitsubishi Galant's crash-test ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) should be researched specifically on those agency websites for accurate data. These ratings assess the vehicle's performance in various crash scenarios, providing insights into its occupant protection capabilities. Generally, it performed adequately for its time, but modern vehicles offer significantly improved safety technology and crash performance. The NHTSA provides star ratings for frontal and side crash tests.

2007 Mitsubishi Galant Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2007 Mitsubishi Galant ranged from approximately $18,000 to $26,000, depending on the trim level and options. As a used vehicle, prices now typically range from $3,000 to $8,000, depending on condition, mileage, and location. The Galant has experienced significant depreciation due to its age and the brand's overall depreciation rate. Factors affecting resale value include the car's condition, mileage, service history, and geographic location. Models with lower mileage, a clean title, and documented maintenance records command higher prices.

2007 Mitsubishi Galant Cost of Ownership

Insurance costs for the 2007 Galant are generally moderate. Fuel costs depend on driving habits and the engine choice, with the V6 model being less fuel-efficient. Maintenance and repair costs can be moderate, but finding parts might become more challenging over time. Overall, the 2007 Galant can be an economical car to own, particularly if purchased at a low price and well-maintained. However, neglecting maintenance can lead to costly repairs, increasing long-term ownership expenses.

Insurance for a 2007 Mitsubishi Galant is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2007 Mitsubishi Galant Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2007 Mitsubishi Galant competed against vehicles like the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, and Mazda 6. In terms of reliability, the Camry and Accord generally outperformed the Galant. Feature-wise, the Altima offered a more modern interior, while the Mazda 6 provided a sportier driving experience. Performance was competitive with the V6 Ralliart model.

Pricewise, the Galant often represented a better value, particularly on the used market. However, considering overall reliability and resale value, the Camry and Accord remain strong contenders. The Altima offers a blend of style and features. The Mazda 6 is a good alternative if you prioritize handling. Other alternatives to consider include the Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima, which often provide more features for the price, though reliability may vary. Ultimately, the best alternative depends on individual priorities and budget. If reliability and resale value are paramount, the Camry or Accord are better choices. If you're seeking a sportier alternative at a lower price point, the Mazda 6 or Galant Ralliart might be more appealing.

Final Verdict: Is the 2007 Mitsubishi Galant a Good Sedan?

The 2007 Mitsubishi Galant is ideal for budget-conscious buyers seeking a reliable and relatively spacious mid-size sedan. It's worth buying as a used vehicle if it's in good condition and has been well-maintained. The Ralliart trim offers a more engaging driving experience thanks to its V6 engine. However, prioritize models with a clean service history and no signs of rust. Be prepared for potentially higher maintenance costs as the vehicle ages. Consider alternatives like the Toyota Camry or Honda Accord if long-term reliability and resale value are major concerns. A pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic is highly recommended.

Great used car

This car is better than the Camry or a Toyota Corolla that I've owned. Granted those were good cars but this one is much roomier the 4-cylinder is very Peppy in The Styling isn't bad at all. The interior is very comfortable. I got this car for $1,000 and drove it from the shoreline in Connecticut to Rhode Island and it is very comfortable and very good on gas. I believe these cars are highly underrated

Ugly as xxxx, reliable and spacious

My dad looked after it very well before it was passed on to me, and for the most part, this car is an absolute tank, but I have had to replace several things since the car turned 10 years old (water pump assembly, accessory timing belt, engine mount, CV axle, starter). It now has 152k and the transmission slips a little bit, but as far as I can tell, the 2.4L 4-cylinder engine is bulletproof; never so much as an oil seep. The interior is spacious, and the trunk is plenty deep and wide. My favorite feature of this car is the dark blue interior lights on the dash display that glow the perfect shade for any nighttime cruise. My biggest criticism of this vehicle is that it's so light, yet so big and boxy that the wind will really push it around on the highway, and in the snow the rear end fishtails much too easily. The sound system is decent for a factory setup, but the lack of an auxiliary jack is disappointing. Despite these issues, especially for someone like me who's 6'2 and needs head and leg room, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better marriage of reliability and comfort. I intend to run this thing till the frame rusts out.

Man I loved that car!

Time to pass on my beloved vehicle to my son and it's the safest car I can imagine for his needs. I really wish I could find another, newer one but the stopped making them in 2012 and they are very hard to find. We have had very few repair bills. It's great in snow and rain. Sturdy and handles well on the back roads. The interior design is "boring" but it suffices for it's age and use. We bought it used and got 5+ years out of it - assume our son will get at least another 3-4.
