The 2011 Mitsubishi Galant is a mid-size sedan that represents the tail end of the Galant's long run. It's a traditional 4-door sedan, offered in trims like the ES, SE, and Sport Edition. New, it ranged roughly from $21,000 to $24,000. Its appeal stemmed from its affordability and spacious interior, offering a comfortable and straightforward driving experience at a budget-friendly price, especially for those seeking a reliable and no-frills sedan.
The Good

The 2011 Galant offers a comfortable ride and spacious interior, appealing to practical buyers. It's known for reasonable reliability and represents strong value for its price point. While not thrilling, the Galant's simplicity can be emotionally reassuring, offering dependable transportation without complex features or high costs. Its straightforward design provides a sense of familiarity.

The Bad

The 2011 Mitsubishi Galant suffers from a somewhat dated design and interior compared to its competitors. Its fuel economy isn't class-leading, and its performance is adequate but not exciting. Potential buyers should watch out for rust, especially in areas with harsh winters, and ensure regular maintenance has been performed.

What Problems Does the 2011 Mitsubishi Galant Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2011 Mitsubishi Galant often revolve around minor electrical issues, such as malfunctioning power windows or door locks. Rust can be a significant concern, particularly in regions with road salt use during winter; check the undercarriage and lower body panels carefully. Some owners have reported issues with the automatic transmission, including rough shifting or slipping, especially at higher mileage.

Recalls for the 2011 Galant have been issued for issues like potential fuel leakage and airbag inflator problems. It's crucial to check the VIN of any potential purchase against the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) database to ensure all applicable recalls have been addressed.

Long-term reliability concerns typically involve standard wear-and-tear items like brakes, suspension components, and belts/hoses. Staying on top of scheduled maintenance is critical for maximizing the vehicle's lifespan. The 2011 model year is not particularly known for significantly different issues compared to other years within its generation, but consistent maintenance records are always a plus.

How long will the 2011 Mitsubishi Galant last?

With reasonable maintenance, a 2011 Mitsubishi Galant can potentially reach 200,000 miles or more. Many owners report reaching 15 years of service. Key to longevity is regular oil changes, transmission fluid services, and addressing any rust issues promptly. Weaknesses over time include potential for suspension wear (struts, bushings), electrical component failures (sensors, switches), and increased risk of transmission problems if not properly maintained. Preventative maintenance is crucial to maximizing its lifespan.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2011 Mitsubishi Galant offers a relatively basic level of built-in tech and entertainment. Standard features typically include a CD player, AM/FM radio, and auxiliary input jack. Higher trims might offer an upgraded audio system. There are no advanced driver-assistance systems available in the 2011 Galant.

Safety features include standard front and side airbags, anti-lock brakes (ABS), and traction control. Electronic Stability Control (ESC) may be available on some trims.

Optional features were limited but could include items such as a sunroof, upgraded wheels, and fog lights. Navigation systems were not commonly offered as a factory option.

Crash-test ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) should be consulted for specific performance details. Generally, the Galant achieved moderate safety scores for its time, but it is important to review the specific ratings for the 2011 model year to understand its performance in various crash scenarios. The absence of modern driver-assistance features like blind-spot monitoring or lane departure warning is a notable drawback compared to newer vehicles.

2011 Mitsubishi Galant Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2011 Mitsubishi Galant ranged from approximately $21,000 to $24,000 depending on the trim level. Current used market prices typically range from $4,000 to $8,000, depending on condition, mileage, and location. The Galant has depreciated significantly due to its age, brand reputation, and the availability of newer, more feature-rich competitors. Factors affecting resale value include overall condition, maintenance records, and mileage. Low mileage examples in excellent condition will command a higher price.

2011 Mitsubishi Galant Cost of Ownership

The 2011 Mitsubishi Galant is generally considered economical to own. Insurance costs are typically lower than average for mid-size sedans. Fuel economy is reasonable, although not class-leading. Maintenance costs are moderate, with readily available and affordable parts. However, potential rust repairs and the possibility of transmission issues at higher mileage can increase long-term ownership costs. Overall, it's a relatively affordable vehicle to maintain, especially if preventative maintenance is performed.

2011 Mitsubishi Galant Insurance

Insurance for a 2011 Mitsubishi Galant is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2011 Mitsubishi Galant Compare to Other Sedan?

Compared to its rivals like the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and Nissan Altima, the 2011 Mitsubishi Galant falls short in several areas. Its performance is less refined, its features are more basic, and its reliability, while decent, isn't on par with the Camry or Accord. Price is where the Galant holds an advantage, typically costing less on the used market.

Alternatives to consider include:
  • Toyota Camry: Known for its reliability and resale value.
  • Honda Accord: Offers a more engaging driving experience and a reputation for longevity.
  • Nissan Altima: A good balance of features, performance, and price.
  • Mazda6: More stylish and sporty than the Galant.

If budget is the primary concern, the Galant can be a viable option. However, for buyers prioritizing reliability, features, or performance, the Camry, Accord, Altima, or Mazda6 would be better choices. The Galant offers more space for the price, but sacrifices refinement.

Final Verdict: Is the 2011 Mitsubishi Galant a Good Sedan?

The 2011 Mitsubishi Galant is ideal for budget-conscious buyers seeking reliable, no-frills transportation. It's a decent option if affordability is the top priority and a spacious interior is desired. While not the most exciting or feature-rich choice, it can be worthwhile if found in good condition with documented maintenance history and a clean title. It's generally only worth buying used, as its original MSRP doesn't align with its current market value relative to its competitors. Consider the SE trim for slightly more features, but focus on overall condition and maintenance records regardless of trim.

@175,000 and no major problems

I bought this car in 2013, used, with 35,000-ish miles on it. All I've ever had to do to this car was regular routine maintenance like oil, brakes, and one tune up. I put a lot of miles on my car. I kept up with the maintainance, and she's treated me well. I'm at about 175k miles and going strong. A year ago (at about 155k) I noticed she was losing some power, but a tune up got her right back to the car I love. I get an average of 25mpg combined City and highway miles even to this day. Only complain I have is that I cracked that front grill piece. It's made of plastic. And it costs aroundd $450 to replace so I've just been driving around with it cracked for 5 be years because I refuse to pay that much for a piece of plastic. Otherwise, great car!!!

Absolutely LOVE This Car!! Stylish&Reliable!

This car has so many features that I've always hoped I would have in my first car. From fuel efficiency to all year round weather condition durability, the car runs smoothly whether it's in need of a minor repair or oil change ,it doesn't effect the cars performance as it would others .

Its worthy

I bought this used 2011 Galant in 2019 for 4800$ Kinda high miles but I've been meticulous at taking car of it and its been decent to me. I sometime wish it was a little more powerful at times it seems to struggle in the hilly area I live in, but overall I'm pleased with my purchase so far and was encouraged to see so many great reviews about it. YAY!

Owned since new with out issue

I drive this car everyday without issue. Very room interior. Outside of basic maintainance, I have not had any issues with this car. I'm at 150,000 miles and still going strong.

Love this car

I traded up from an Infinity G20 to this Galant. It is a solid mid size car with lots of legroom for us tall gals as well as a large trunk. The interior is styled really well, love the wood accent. I love my sunroof and enjoy being able to calculate how much I'm getting in miles per gallon along with the 6 CD changer, mp3 port and bluetooth connectivity it has a lot of perks for a 7 year old car. I know 2 people who have had Galants for years and love them, so I'm looking forward to enjoying this vehicle for years to come! Oh and the heated seats were a nice surprise on those cold winter days....I didnt know what I had been missing out on all these years.

Great car, stylish, very roomy, lots of features.

Nice looking, very roomy, ecspecially in the back seat. Lots of car for the money as compared to an Accord or Camry. No problems or recalls in almost 7 years of ownership. 30 mpg highway. Great original warranty too. We also own 2 other Mitsubishis, a 2014, and a new 2016.

Most beautiful and reliable car I've owned

I am so pleased with the car that my husband and I purchased on Saturday February 16, 2013. The car is beautiful and very reliable. The saleswoman was an absolute joy to deal with. She was very businesslike and personable. She knew the details of our car like the back of her hand. My husband and I will DEFINATELY be back to purchase a car from her in the future and we will most definately be referring our family and friends to her and the business.
