The Good
The 2009 Galant offers a comfortable ride and spacious interior, appealing to practical needs. Its sporty Ralliart trim provides a performance boost and unique styling for those seeking a more engaging driving experience. Generally reliable and affordable, it presents a strong value proposition for budget-minded buyers.
The Bad
The 2009 Galant's weaknesses include its somewhat dated interior design and lower-grade materials. The base engine can feel underpowered, and fuel economy isn't class-leading. Watch out for potential transmission issues and ensure regular maintenance is performed to prevent problems.

Analysis
What Problems Does the 2009 Mitsubishi Galant Have?
Recalls for the 2009 Galant have addressed issues such as potential fuel leakage due to faulty fuel tank components and issues with the occupant classification system, which could affect airbag deployment. It's essential to check the vehicle's VIN with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to ensure all applicable recalls have been addressed.
Long-term reliability concerns generally revolve around the longevity of the transmission and the potential for rust, especially in areas with harsh winters. Regular maintenance, including fluid changes and rust prevention measures, can help mitigate these concerns. Model years within the 2004-2012 generation have shown similar issues, so a thorough inspection before purchasing a used Galant is always recommended.
How long will the 2009 Mitsubishi Galant last?
Long-term durability hinges on addressing potential weaknesses. Transmission issues, if they arise, can significantly shorten the vehicle's lifespan if left unaddressed. Rust can also be a factor, particularly in colder climates. Regular fluid changes, timely repairs, and rustproofing can extend the Galant's usable life. Neglecting maintenance will accelerate wear and tear, leading to a shorter lifespan.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features were limited. Cruise control was available on ES and higher trims. Safety features included standard antilock brakes (ABS), front airbags, and side-impact airbags. Electronic Stability Control (ESC) was not standard on all trims.
Optional features were primarily limited to trim-specific upgrades, such as leather upholstery and premium audio systems. Navigation was not a common factory-installed option.
Crash-test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) varied. The 2009 Galant generally received good ratings for frontal crash protection but lower ratings for side-impact protection. It's recommended to consult the official NHTSA and IIHS websites for specific crash-test results for the 2009 model year.

2009 Mitsubishi Galant Prices and Market Value
The Galant has experienced significant depreciation due to its age, brand perception, and reliability concerns compared to its competitors. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, mileage, service history, and trim level. The Ralliart trim generally commands a higher resale value due to its performance enhancements.

How Does the 2009 Mitsubishi Galant Compare to Other Sedan?
In terms of pricing, the Galant was often more affordable than its competitors, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious buyers. However, this came at the expense of some features and refinement.
Alternatives to the 2009 Galant include the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Mazda6, and Hyundai Sonata. The Accord and Camry are generally considered better overall choices due to their reliability and resale value. The Mazda6 offers a sportier driving experience, while the Hyundai Sonata provides a strong value proposition with a longer warranty. If budget is a primary concern, a well-maintained Sonata or Altima might be a similar alternative to the Galant, offering comparable features at a potentially lower price point.

Runs smooth, accelerates well, big enough for 4 people very comfortably, nice interior, decent gas mile, handles great, smooth ride, great sound, looks great too. Just a great car for a single person or a small family.

2009 ESBought it in late 2009 with 32,000 miles on it (still pondering how it got 32K in 9 months!). Best feature is handling, closely followed by surprising ability to accelerate with a normally aspirated 4-cylinder. Interior is comfortable when seated, less so getting in and out (I'm 6'4" and over 200). Reliability is very good, never missed a beat or failed to start in the Texas 100+ heat or subfreezing cold - sits out in the weather on an apartment parking lot, at that. I do regular oil changes, replace tires when needed, etc. so with reasonable care the '09 should last a very long time. Probably worth more as a percentage of new price than most cars 5+ years old

MitsubishiI donated my 1999 Mitsubishi to a charity because I was ready to purchase another and felt the need to pass on a reliable vehicle to someone who could use it for transportation.
