The 2022 Nissan Kicks is a subcompact SUV that debuted in 2018 as a replacement for the Nissan Juke. It's known for its affordability, fuel efficiency, and distinctive styling. The 2022 model is available in S, SV, and SR trims. Its price typically ranges from around $20,000 to $23,000. The Kicks' youthful design, ample cargo space for its size, and standard safety features contribute to its popularity, especially among first-time car buyers and urban dwellers.
The Good

The 2022 Nissan Kicks offers excellent fuel efficiency, appealing to practical buyers. Its distinctive styling and vibrant color options provide an emotional connection. While not a performance car, it's reliable and comfortable for city driving. The Kicks represents great value for money with its generous features at an affordable price point.

The Bad

The 2022 Nissan Kicks' primary weakness is its underpowered engine, which can feel sluggish, especially when fully loaded or going uphill. Its handling isn't particularly sporty. The rear drum brakes (on the base S trim) are also less advanced than disc brakes. Potential buyers should test drive to ensure the performance meets their needs.

What Problems Does the 2022 Nissan Kicks Have?

The 2022 Nissan Kicks generally enjoys decent reliability ratings. However, some owners have reported issues with the CVT transmission, which is a common concern across several Nissan models. Symptoms can include hesitation, shuddering, or unusual noises during acceleration. While not widespread, it's something to be aware of.

Another potential issue is related to the infotainment system, with some users reporting glitches, slow response times, or connectivity problems with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. These issues are often resolved with software updates.

It's important to check for any recalls related to the 2022 Kicks. You can do so by visiting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website and entering the VIN. Recalls, if any, are usually addressed free of charge by Nissan dealerships.

Long-term reliability data suggests that the Kicks is relatively dependable, but regular maintenance, especially fluid changes for the CVT, is crucial for preventing major problems. Keep an eye out for potential issues with the battery, as some owners have reported shorter-than-expected battery life. Always consult with a trusted mechanic for proper diagnosis and repair.

How long will the 2022 Nissan Kicks last?

With proper maintenance, the 2022 Nissan Kicks can realistically achieve 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-15 years of service. The key to longevity lies in regular oil changes, timely CVT fluid replacements (every 30,000 miles is recommended), and addressing minor issues promptly.
Long-term durability concerns primarily revolve around the CVT transmission. Consistent and proper maintenance will maximize its lifespan. The interior materials, while decent, may show wear and tear over time, particularly in high-touch areas. Rust can also be a potential issue in regions with harsh winters and road salt, so regular washing and rustproofing are advisable.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2022 Nissan Kicks comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system (8-inch on SV and SR trims) that includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. NissanConnect Services are available on higher trims, offering remote access, emergency assistance, and vehicle health reports.

Standard driver-assistance features include automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, high beam assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and blind spot warning. Adaptive cruise control is added on the SV and SR trims. A surround-view monitor is exclusive to the SR trim.

The available Bose Personal Plus Audio System (optional on SR) includes headrest-mounted speakers for a more immersive audio experience.

Safety: The 2022 Nissan Kicks earned good crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety). Check the IIHS and NHTSA websites for the most up-to-date ratings.

2022 Nissan Kicks Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2022 Nissan Kicks had a starting MSRP of around $20,000 for the base S trim, climbing to approximately $23,000 for the fully equipped SR. Used market prices currently range from approximately $16,000 to $21,000, depending on condition, mileage, and trim level. The Kicks depreciates at a rate typical for its class. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, condition, service history, and trim level. Well-maintained examples with lower mileage and desirable features like the SR trim command higher prices. Color and location also influence resale value.

2022 Nissan Kicks Cost of Ownership

The 2022 Nissan Kicks is generally economical to own. Insurance costs are typically lower than average due to its safety features and value proposition. Fuel economy is excellent, contributing to significant savings. Routine maintenance is relatively affordable, with reasonably priced parts. Repair costs are also generally moderate. However, potential CVT transmission repairs can be expensive. Overall, the Kicks offers a compelling blend of low running costs and predictable maintenance, making it a budget-friendly choice.

reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2022 Nissan Kicks Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2022 Nissan Kicks competes with vehicles like the Hyundai Venue, Kia Soul, Mazda CX-3, and Chevrolet Trax. In terms of performance, the Kicks lags behind the Mazda CX-3, which offers a more engaging driving experience. However, the Kicks excels in fuel efficiency and offers a comparable feature set at a lower price point than many rivals.

Compared to the Hyundai Venue, the Kicks provides a more spacious interior and slightly better fuel economy. The Kia Soul offers a more distinctive design and potentially more features, but it may be pricier. The Chevrolet Trax, while offering available all-wheel drive, is less fuel-efficient and has a less modern interior.

If performance is a priority, the Mazda CX-3 is a better alternative, though it comes at a higher cost. For those seeking similar value and features, the Hyundai Venue and Kia Soul are worth considering. The Kicks shines in its combination of affordability, fuel efficiency, and ample cargo space, making it a compelling option for budget-conscious buyers who prioritize practicality over driving thrills.

Final Verdict: Is the 2022 Nissan Kicks a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2022 Nissan Kicks is ideal for city dwellers, first-time car buyers, and anyone seeking an affordable and fuel-efficient subcompact SUV. It's a worthwhile purchase if you prioritize value, practicality, and modern styling over outright performance. Buying used can offer excellent value, especially if you find a well-maintained SV or SR trim. New, the Kicks remains an attractive option for budget-conscious buyers. Consider the SV or SR trim for added features like adaptive cruise control and an upgraded infotainment system. Be aware of the potential for CVT issues and ensure regular maintenance is performed.

Bought the car used with 38,550 miles had it 15 mos and only drove it 3,800 miles and died and Automatic Braking System Actuator had to be repaired for $2,100.00. I did love the car. But no warranty after 36,000 miles. It a real shame to have to give it up. I would never by a Nissan again

Good quality car.

Good quality car. After so many long trips I enjoyed any time with my family, ex. Medellín to Guajira more or less 1000 KMS ~ 600 miles. It is an Mt Advance version and does not have as many technical assistants. But it is a city car, don't expect too much. it doesn't have much strength

Rip off at the dealership

This has been a very reliable economical car to drive. A very good deal for the value if the selling dealership hadn,'t ripped me off by charging so much more than it's worth when I originally purchased the car

Its growing on me but.....

I was hasty and didn't shop around. I have a base model and I don't like the lack of features like power seats and it also has hubcaps which cheapen the look. I hate the hubcaps, I didn't know new cars still had them. Seat is not comfortable, I had to turn the headrest backwards to find a little comfort. I think i would've been happier with an upgraded model. On the plus side it's new, looks pretty good, has a touchscreen, camera and sensors and gives good gas mileage. Rides decent but the power sucks. Oh and its REALLY hard to buckle in a carseat on the back drivers side. Needs a buckle extender. Knowing what I know now I definitely wouldn't get the same model I have.

Satisfied

I have the SR model which is nice and sporty looking but as I knew before purchasing it is under powered. I am disappointed in the 12 gallon fuel tank. Even though it does get around 30 miles per gallon in the city I still feel like I'm spending way too much time at gas stations. The pump cuts off at 10 gallons and I have to SLOWLY pack the other 2 gallons in. No power seats and on power rear hatch. Just the right size for grandparents. A lot of nice options and I love the adaptive cruse control. No heat or AC vents in the back seat, could be a problem if carrying passengers. Seat material seems to be hard to clean and attracts lint. The auto headlight dimmer works good and is very handy.

Looking forward for a turbo Nissan Kicks: THANKS

My 2020 Nissan Kicks is a basic model with good safety features at a great price. It's great for in-city driving and gives me excellent gas mileage. However, this particular model would definitely be better with turbo. Which would cost more but would perform a lot better especially on the highway.

So AWESOME!

I purchased a Kicks the first year they came out (in 2018) and loved it then. But I moved to a small town that is mostly rural was was afraid to keep it since the winters here can be pretty bad with snow. I (unfortunately) traded my Kicks for a Nissan Rogue Sport AWD. There was nothing really wrong with the Sport, but after going through a couple of bad winters, I found that it wasn't as awful as I feared so this year I decided to go back to what I really loved. I traded the Sport for a new Kicks SR. I am so glad I did! It's even better than I remembered. Nimble, responsive, stylish - just plain AWESOME! Nissan has done an incredible job. Totally in love with my Kicks!
