It offers a unique blend of luxury and utility.
The Good

The 2019 Volvo V90 boasts a comfortable and refined ride, appealing to the practical buyer who prioritizes smooth journeys. Its elegant Scandinavian design and luxurious interior provides an emotional connection. Performance is adequate with available turbocharged engines. While not the sportiest, it offers solid reliability and good fuel efficiency for its class, presenting a strong value proposition. Safety is a major advantage.

The Bad

The 2019 Volvo V90's weaknesses include its infotainment system, which can be slow to respond and unintuitive. Some owners have reported issues with electrical systems and sensor malfunctions. What Problems Does the 2019 Volvo V90 Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2019 Volvo V90 often revolve around the infotainment system. Owners have complained about slow response times, glitches, and difficulty connecting to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Some electrical system issues, such as sensor malfunctions and battery drain, have also been reported. While generally reliable, the air suspension (if equipped) can be prone to problems over time, leading to costly repairs.

Recalls for the 2019 Volvo V90 have included issues related to the fuel line potentially leaking, which could increase the risk of a fire. Check the NHTSA website for the most up-to-date recall information. Long-term reliability concerns primarily center around the complexity of the vehicle's electronics. As the car ages, the likelihood of experiencing electronic issues increases. Regular maintenance and addressing minor problems promptly can help mitigate these concerns. Premature wear of brake components has also been mentioned in some owner forums. It's advisable to have a pre-purchase inspection performed by a qualified mechanic before buying a used 2019 V90.

How long will the 2019 Volvo V90 last?

With proper maintenance, a 2019 Volvo V90 can easily reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles or provide 10-15 years of service. Volvo engines are generally durable, but regular oil changes and timely servicing of the timing belt are crucial. Key long-term weaknesses include potential issues with the air suspension (if equipped), the infotainment system, and various electronic sensors. Consistent maintenance, including fluid checks and replacement of wear items like brakes and tires, significantly impacts the vehicle's lifespan. Neglecting maintenance can lead to premature failure of these components and shorten the car's overall lifespan.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2019 Volvo V90 is well-equipped with built-in tech and safety features. The standard 9-inch Sensus Connect touchscreen controls many vehicle functions, including navigation, audio, and climate. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. Entertainment features include Bluetooth connectivity and a USB port. Optional features include a Harman Kardon or Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system.

Driver-assistance features include lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and a rearview camera as standard. Adaptive cruise control with Pilot Assist (semi-autonomous driving) is available as an option.

Safety features are a Volvo hallmark. Standard features include City Safety (automatic emergency braking), run-off road mitigation, and whiplash protection. Optional features include park assist pilot and a 360-degree surround view camera.

Crash-test ratings from the IIHS are typically "Top Safety Pick+", and the NHTSA often awards a 5-star overall safety rating (verify with official sources). These ratings reflect Volvo's commitment to safety.

2019 Volvo V90 Prices and Market Value

The 2019 Volvo V90 had a starting MSRP of around $51,000 to $60,000 depending on the trim and options. Current used market prices typically range from $25,000 to $40,000, depending on mileage, condition, and trim level. The V90 depreciates at a moderate rate, similar to other luxury vehicles. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, mileage, service history, and the popularity of the wagon body style. Models with desirable options, such as the Bowers & Wilkins sound system and Pilot Assist, tend to hold their value better. Location also plays a role, as wagons may be more popular in some regions than others.

2019 Volvo V90 Cost of Ownership

The 2019 Volvo V90 is moderately costly to own long-term. Insurance rates are typically higher than average due to its luxury status and safety features. Fuel costs are reasonable, especially for the T5 engine. However, maintenance and repair costs can be expensive, as Volvo parts and labor tend to be pricier than those of mainstream brands. Regular maintenance is crucial to prevent costly repairs. While not the most economical choice, the V90 offers a balance of luxury and practicality that may justify the higher ownership costs for some buyers.

2019 Volvo V90 Insurance

Insurance for a 2019 Volvo V90 is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Passenger Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2019 Volvo V90 Compare to Other Passenger Sedan?

The 2019 Volvo V90 competes with other luxury wagons like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Wagon, Audi A6 allroad, and BMW 5 Series Touring (though the latter isn't sold in the US). In terms of performance, the V90's T6 and T8 engines offer respectable power, but the Mercedes and BMW offer more potent options. Feature-wise, the V90 is well-equipped, but its infotainment system lags behind the competition. Reliability is generally good, but some rivals have a slightly better track record. Price-wise, the V90 is often more affordable than the Mercedes and BMW.

Alternatives to consider include the Buick Regal TourX (if you're looking for a more budget-friendly wagon, though it lacks the luxury feel), or a Volvo XC60 or XC90 if you need more cargo space and prefer an SUV. The Audi A6 allroad offers similar levels of luxury and practicality, and its Quattro all-wheel-drive system is excellent. Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual priorities and budget. If a smooth ride, elegant design, and strong safety features are paramount, the V90 is a compelling option.

Final Verdict: Is the 2019 Volvo V90 a Good Passenger Sedan?

The 2019 Volvo V90 is ideal for buyers seeking a stylish, comfortable, and safe alternative to SUVs and sedans. It's particularly well-suited for those who appreciate Scandinavian design and prioritize a refined driving experience. Whether it's worth buying depends on individual needs and budget. A used V90 can offer excellent value, particularly if you can find a well-maintained example with desirable options. The Inscription trim provides the most luxurious features, while the R-Design offers a sportier look and feel. Be sure to have a pre-purchase inspection performed to identify any potential issues before committing to a purchase. Consider models with documented service history to mitigate long-term reliability concerns.

Most high luxury car I have ever owned.

Not only is this Volvo model beautifully styled (I am not a fan of the look of a typical Volvo), it is designed like a station wagon so I can use it for all my farm needs, bring my dogs everywhere and people have told me what a beautiful car it is. There are so many bells and whistles to this vehicle, assisted driving, massage chairs, Bluetooth... warming seats/steering wheel... the list goes on and on and no matter how many times I return to the dealership for a question, they greet me and eager to help. I will always buy a Volvo amd I will always use this dealership.

Coolest Car Ever!!

I own the 2019 Volvo V90 T5 R-Design in Bursting Blue. It is hands down the coolest car I’ve owned. People tell me all the time how cool it is then they realize it’s a Volvo wagon. It’s sporty while being functional and has all the latest tech you can pack in a car. The T5 has plenty of power plus good gas mileage. And best of all it’s a wagon so you have plenty of room for the groceries!!!

Great drive, great ride.

After loving my Audi for 12 years I was reluctant to move to anything I would love as much. The V90 Inscription is an exciting replacement. I didn?t feel like I was giving up options, I was adding new safety and performance features and excellent headlights. I was even able to get a wood grain steering wheel.
