What Problems Does the 2020 Volvo XC40 Have?
Recalls for the 2020 XC40 have been issued for various reasons, including potential issues with the braking system, airbag deployment, and fuel delivery. It's essential to check the vehicle's VIN against the NHTSA database to ensure all applicable recalls have been addressed.
Long-term reliability is a moderate concern. While Volvo has a reputation for safety, the XC40, being a relatively new model, has shown some instances of premature wear on certain components. Turbocharger issues and some transmission hesitation have been noted by a small percentage of owners. Scheduled maintenance is crucial to mitigating these risks. Early model years might be more susceptible to these initial design and manufacturing quirks.

Nice car.Very comfortable and easy getting around town after trading my big xxx Mercedes. Display and interaction very easily followed. First Volvo was 1969 that lasted 20 years. Glad to be back in a Volvo.

One of my favoritesA great car. It checked most of the boxes that I had when looking for cars at the time. I ponied up for the Polestar software upgrade and wow did that make a difference. A few reviews had said that the car was underpowered. Not any more. There are some great details and some strange ones too, but overall it's one of my favorite vehicles. Like any car these days, there are a few niggling things that Vovo can't seem to fix. The hood doesn't seem to fit correctly no matter what Vovo did. It "bangs" when you lean against it (cleaning the windscreen, etc) and when the car is jolted (potholes, etc). No amount of work seems to properly address the issue. It's 2.5 years and I've been through a set (2) batteries (main and stop/start). It is now giving me the feeling that the main battery is failing again. The stop/start has not worked consistently since I got the car. Vovo tells me I don't drive it enough to keep the battery charged. Well, I do 5 to 6K a year and if that's not enough they should say so up front. Seems to me that there is something up (or down) with the charging system. Again, I'm impressed.

Super Cool BUT the build quality is poorMy wife owns the Inscription. I drive a 2020 Ram 1500 Limited but with high gas prices been having fun with our X40. I've owned a 2006 XC90 V8 back in the day (great SUV) extremely well built and SOLID. Also, we've owned a couple of Cross Country wagons in the early 2000s. There is CLEARLY a quality decline with the newer Volvo's. Maybe it's b/c they're owned by China (Geely) or maybe because people are interested in technology only and quality isnt a priority with most Volvo buyers anymore. The XC40 is a fun car with touch screens, cool LED interior, and exterior lights. It's feature-rich but the build quality is POOR. Most people wouldnt notice the short cuts and cheap material and workmanship but a car person quickly notices Volvo/Geely are not building old school high-quality Volvo's that are built to last anymore. You will see very few of these newer XC40, XC90's with high miles on the road in 15 plus years. I love cruising around in our XC40 Inscription. It's a super cool design and looks like a piece of art. But it only has 15,000 miles and I guaruntee you it wont hit the 200,000 miles like our 2006 XC90.

xc 90 to xc 60 to xc40I have owned the 90,60 and now the 40. It is a great car to drive. Getting over 30mph on highway and about 23 in the city. Car has all the safety features you need. I have 2 older sons and they have plenty of leg and headroom in the back. The gear shift does taken getting used to. As does the center screen. Read the manual and you should not have any problems. Front seats are very comfortable. Cargo space in the back is adequate-- got 4 suitcases in there with no problem. Car handles great on the highway. Engine is quiet and very peppy . My 2 problems with the car--

How do I end my lease after 5 monthsThis car drives me crazy. I hate the push button for park. Why it couldn’t be incorporated into the other drives is beyond me. The fact that the radio stays on when the engine is off Is confusing. I was told the car gets 34 mp gallon. I have not gotten more than 27. The voice control NEVER works. But the main reason I want to end my lease is because the GPS is not at all user friendly. I have had to pull over, and shut he car off In order to get back to the main screen. I use this all of the time and it is a big deal for me. It is not a Garmin system and one cannot be put in. The trunk space only fits two suitcases. I’m very unhappy with this car but these issues are specific to my needs. I do love the safety bells and whistles. Twice, the automatic braking system stopped me from hitting a dear. The styling is beautiful and I am comfortable driving it. The gps is a game changer for me.

I love this car.....Exactly what I wanted. Comfortable, reliable, great styling.....I only wish I could have driven more in this first year. I do intend to take more trips, once Covid19 is under control.

A great, comfortable car.I recently purchased the 2021 Volvo XC 40 T4 momentum with a few upgrades. I have had the car for two weeks, and it is definitely one of the most comfortable cars I’ve sat in for the money. It drives great, great fuel economy ( I’m getting 26 city and about 35 highway ) If you guys are planning on picking one up, I highly recommend getting the Harman Kardon sound system - The base Soundsystem that I own, is subpar. Not horrible, but definitely not something to brag about. In fact my amplifier overheated, and I have to take it into service to see what can be done. Other than that small negative thing, the car is perfect.
