The Good
The 2017 Nissan Sentra offers a compelling blend of practicality and comfort. Its reliability and fuel efficiency appeal to practical buyers, while the spacious interior and available tech features offer an enjoyable driving experience. Its value proposition is strong, providing a well-equipped car at an affordable price, which evokes a sense of smart decision-making.
The Bad
Potential weaknesses of the 2017 Nissan Sentra include somewhat uninspired handling compared to rivals and a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that some find noisy or less engaging than a traditional automatic. Watch out for potential CVT issues, as some owners have reported problems over time. The base engine can also feel underpowered in certain situations.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the 2017 Sentra a "Top Safety Pick" award when equipped with optional front crash prevention. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave it an overall safety rating of 4 out of 5 stars. Optional features included on higher trims are leather seats, a power driver's seat, and a premium Bose audio system. The infotainment system, while functional, isn't as intuitive or responsive as some competitors' systems. The driver-assistance features, however, add a valuable layer of safety and convenience.

How Does the 2017 Nissan Sentra Compare to Other Sedan?
Alternatives to consider include the Honda Civic, which offers better handling and a more refined interior, and the Toyota Corolla, known for its exceptional reliability. The Mazda3 provides a sportier driving experience. The Hyundai Elantra is also a strong contender, offering a good balance of features and value. If reliability is a top priority, the Corolla or Civic are better choices, even if they cost slightly more upfront. If budget is a major constraint, the Sentra remains a reasonable option, but be prepared for potential CVT-related expenses.

Final Verdict: Is the 2017 Nissan Sentra a Good Sedan?

NISSAN DEPENDABILITYI purchased my Sentra SV with 45,000 miles on it. After 5:years, it has been a rock of dependability and gets outstanding gas mileage (43-45 mpg with the ECO mode.) I've only had to replace the battery and front brake pads and it has 76,099 miles. It may not be the sportiest car, but it's comfortable and gets 29-33 mpg around town.

2017 Nisan Sentra NISMO2017 Nisan Sentra NISMO After only 30K the Alternator had to be replaced. Left my wife, who limped-it-out of harms way, stranded on the side of the road. The dash screen - radio, navigation, back-up camera blacks out and stops working intermittently. Also the radio volume control won't advance past 3. Took if for service where they performed a software upgrade at our expense which did not solve the problem. Kelowna Nissan service pretends it's a one-of situation while the internet if full of multi-model complaints for the same thing. We bought an extensive premium warranty however the service department seems to have no clue what is covered.

We love this Carson much we have 2, 2016 and 2017It's become impossible to get a standard transmission since some brilliant (business-wise) person came up with the "sport model upgrade." We like basic, reliable, easy, less expensive in all ways, and fun cars.

Small car good on gasThis car rides good low mile reliable. The interior could be better but it has a roomy interior to be a small car. The trunk is huge. Wish you bluetooth your music to stereo instead of using a aux cable. Overall a good car cheap on gas.

Happy To Have Bought This CarI bought this car brand new during Nissan’s Black Friday sale and it was a bargain! I got an exceptional deal on the Sentra SV with all the extra features for the automatic including the luxury package. I got winters on rims, 0% financing, lifetime rust proof and much more! It was also a lot cheaper with more features compared to the other auto manufacturers at that time. I picked the car up on Dec 1, 2017 and still own it today. My car just hit 70,000km (43,400 miles) and it’s been great for me so far. Great winter car for driving and handling and great on gas. I read some reviews about others complaining about how it takes a bit to get it going but for my model I have no issues. Sometimes it takes a bit when in ECO Mode or right after I switch it off of ECO but nothing else otherwise which to me is kind of expected. Drives great under normal driving mode and gives a nice acceleration boost on Sports Mode especially for Highway onramps. I had my parents one time in the car and we drove from Barrie to Sudbury Ontario and back while also driving around Sudbury for 2 days, all on a single tank of gas (730-750km) and all it cost was $55CAD to fill up on premium fuel (it’s not enforced but recommended, will run fine on regular). If I were to pick any issues, it would be 2 of them. 1) Minor rusting around the chrome trim I noticed after the winter ended after I bought it from 2017 to 2018. Nissan fully covered the repairs including the 3 day rental. The Nissan approved shop added silicone behind the chrome and fixed it to prevent this issue and 3yrs later it’s never come back and I continually check it. 2) One of my ABS sensors in the front failed so I needed to get it replaced (cost $300CAD to fix including part and labour) as it just past the 60,000km/3yr mark by being 65,000km/3yr4m later. NOTE: Once in a while, the Bluetooth in the car will drop or fail but shortly after it’ll be ok again. Other than that, great car and recommend!

Ok. Once I can drive it,........Car is ok. Currently sitting in driveway. BOTH key fob batteries died after having car three (3) Days. Ordered new batteries (at my expense) waiting for delivery.
Disappointed after one week. Poor acceleration. on December 17, 2020
The most under power car I've own. MPG off by 10 mThe engineers underpowered what could have been a great vehicle. On the SV great a/c, sound system and roomier than most cars it's size. Unfortunately the lack of acceleration makes it less safe than it should be.
