The 2019 Chevrolet Traverse is a mid-size SUV offering spacious seating and ample cargo capacity. Part of the Traverse's second generation (2018-present), it's known for its family-friendly design and comfortable ride. Key trims include L, LS, LT, Premier, and High Country. The pricing range when new was approximately $30,000 to $54,000. Its popularity stems from its ability to comfortably transport up to eight passengers and its respectable fuel economy for its size.
The Good

The 2019 Traverse offers a blend of practicality and appeal. Its strong V6 engine delivers adequate performance. It provides a comfortable ride and spacious interior, appealing to families. While not the most fuel-efficient, it offers decent MPG for its class. Its stylish design and available tech features offer emotional appeal, while its overall value and utility cater to practical needs.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2019 Traverse include a less engaging driving experience compared to some competitors. Some owners have reported issues with the 9-speed automatic transmission, like hard shifts or hesitation. While spacious, the third-row seating might be cramped for adults on long trips. Some interior materials feel less premium than rivals.

What Problems Does the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse Have?

The 2019 Chevrolet Traverse has experienced some frequently reported problems. The 9-speed automatic transmission has been a source of complaints, with some owners reporting harsh shifting, hesitation, and occasional slipping.
Some owners have also reported issues with the infotainment system, including freezing, slow response times, and connectivity problems with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Early models of the 2019 Traverse had some recalls related to airbag deployment and fuel pump issues. It's important to check the vehicle's VIN for any outstanding recalls.
Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the complexity of modern automotive systems. Sensors and electronics can sometimes fail over time, leading to repair costs. Regular maintenance and addressing issues promptly can help mitigate these risks.
Some owners have reported issues with the climate control system, particularly with the rear air conditioning. These are issues to be aware of and inspect when considering a used model. Always obtain a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic.

How long will the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse last?

With proper maintenance, a 2019 Chevrolet Traverse can reasonably be expected to last for 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-13 years. This lifespan depends significantly on consistent maintenance, including regular oil changes, fluid checks, and timely repairs. Long-term durability can be affected by the 9-speed transmission's reliability, so preventative maintenance and prompt attention to any shifting issues are crucial. Weaknesses might emerge in the electronic systems and sensors over time. Vehicles driven in harsh climates or subjected to heavy use may experience a shorter lifespan. Proper care is key.

I bought the Traverse used, and I couldn’t be happier with this Chevrolet! The gas mileage is great for such a big vehicle! It’s smooth and Quiet, and does long distances very well! We went from Atlanta to Houston and got 29 mpg average combined driving! On some Texas roads it still rides a bit like a truck when sleeping in back, but so smooth and quiet when roads are not broken up!

Leg room —super! Has get up and go right now! Love the model appearance. Good gas mileage. Spacious cabin. Nice head room. Like the height.
Theresa
This vehicle has plenty of space for my family. I love all the upgrades in it. I just purchased it on 2/5/21 and could not be happier.
Negative Owner Reviews

Roomy but seats are not comfortable at all. I wish I could charge my phone when motor is turned off. Also wish passenger side seat was automatic along with auto up on window. For price you cut too many corners.
Greg
My 2019 Chevy traverse broke down it has been unfixable for four months now GM cannot repair my brand new vehicle and has no solution to the problem. GM Will not Reimburse me for the price of the vehicle has done nothing to resolve the problem.

2019 Chevrolet Traverse Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse ranged from approximately $30,000 for the base L trim to $54,000 for the top-tier High Country. Current used market prices typically range from $18,000 to $35,000, depending on mileage, condition, and trim level. The Traverse depreciates at a moderate rate, similar to other SUVs in its class. However, potential repairs, especially related to the transmission or infotainment system, can increase long-term ownership costs. It's not the most economical SUV, but it offers value based on its size and features, but consider possible repairs.

Be aware of potential transmission issues and ensure any outstanding recalls have been addressed. For buyers highly prioritizing long-term reliability, the Toyota Highlander or Honda Pilot might be better alternatives.

Too many issues with the engine .

Too many issues with the engine . Power failure and transmission issues. Warranty service not worth the trouble this continues to have ongoing and no recalls ? Ridiculous

Don’t get one even if given to you

At 55,000 miles I needed a new starter motor. At 65,000 mile I needed a new alternator, at 80,000 miles I needed another new alternator, now at 83,000 miles I had to have the car towed to the mechanic because it wouldn’t move. I’m waiting to hear the damages. Not terrible design just a terrible car. Meant to sell it after the second alternator and now definitely getting rid of it. To call it a piece of junk isn’t fair to junk. This piece of crap cost me in time, money, and inconvenience way more than junk ever did.

Know what you're getting!

Be aware that there is a feature that causes the engine to "turn off" when you come to a stop and "turn on" again when you take your foot off the brake! It's annoying and can't be permanently disabled. I hate it! The special battery cost me $275 and must be traded out by a mechanic. So add that cost. O'Rileys attempted to replace the old battery, but there is an engine part in the way. Before I buy another vehicle, I'm going to check on basic maintenance costs!!

Very nice car!

This car meets my needs. It is small enough to maneuver easily but has plenty of cab room... Enough to carry 4 sets of golf clubs and ladies anywhere we want to golf!

Just got

To new to tell. First day drove to Pittsburgh and back (330 miles). Seems to be fine so far. Wife disappointed that there is no CD player in it. We haven't figured out the radio system yet. Lots of computer stuff to learn. Very nice vehicle though.
