The Good
The 2012 Traverse offers a comfortable ride and spacious cabin, appealing to those seeking practicality. Its V6 engine delivers adequate power for everyday driving. While not the most fuel-efficient, it provides good value for its size and capabilities. Emotionally, it offers the security and convenience of a large family vehicle without sacrificing car-like driving dynamics. Decent reliability helps to secure the practical appeal.
The Bad
Potential weaknesses of the 2012 Traverse include reported issues with the timing chain, air conditioning system, and some electrical components. Watch out for excessive oil consumption, transmission problems, and ensure regular maintenance is performed to mitigate these risks. Interior materials can feel somewhat dated compared to rivals.

How Does the 2012 Chevrolet Traverse Compare to Other Wagon?
Reliability is where the Traverse falls short compared to the Highlander and Pilot, which are known for their strong reliability records. The Ford Explorer offers a more engaging driving experience but can also be less reliable. The Nissan Pathfinder provides similar practicality but a less refined interior.
In terms of price, the Traverse is often competitively priced on the used market. If reliability is a top priority, the Toyota Highlander or Honda Pilot might be better alternatives, although they may command a higher price. If driving dynamics are more important, the Ford Explorer is a worthy consideration, understanding potential reliability trade-offs. Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual priorities and budget.

Final Verdict: Is the 2012 Chevrolet Traverse a Good Wagon?

2012 Chevy Traverse 2LTThe car is great for comfort, styling, capacity, and accessories. I have a problems with the low beam and rear bulbs blowing every few months; there is oil blowback into the intake that causes the sensor to trip and the engine goes into anti-theft mode and cuts the engine power to a crawl; the heat comes on when it wants to; the ac compressor went out; the rear lift gate doesn't go all the way up, it reverses half way up and closes; the buttons for automatic windows on driver side stopped working; other than the above listed items, I love the car.

Was not informed about any recallsI've had to take it in several times and the air bag on passenger side made a ticking noise which is annoying.the seats are not made for durable wear I had a heavy person actually break my passenger side seat where the control panel is.its all plastic..the ac unit is not working the passenger gets hot air drivers side is cold. And not to mention that I was able to look under the engine and some of the bolts are gone to hold the engine together .

BIG PILE OF JUNK.One big pile of junk. Constant need of repairs. Chevy should be ashamed to have produced such a horrible vehicle. In about a 1 to 2 year period when hit 100000 miles... motor went $6500, a/c evaporator, cooling fan unit ($1500) ; struts; buncho of other stuff as well.. Spent between $10000 and $11500 on repairs during those 1-2 years. I was at a chevy quick oil change and they said that the 2012 was known to be a pile of junk. Again and foremost, Chevy should be ashamed of this product and cutting large check to those unfortunate enough to have purchased one. I won't buy chevy ever again.

My last ChevyI've always been a Chevy owner, but this is my last Chevy. There's many reasons I am not happy. It's hard to access the second back seat. Seat back don't lay flat. The positioning of the battery is rediculous. I've had nothing but problems with this vehicle. ABS, Stabilitrack, All wheel drive turns off randomly. It's seems as though it's not the quality I'm used to with Chevy.

Great car for a great price!!Love it!! its exactly what we was wanting and within our budget! Would definitely recommend this car for anyone and especially those with kids. The 3rd row makes it perfect for Friends or Family to all pile in one vehicle together and allow plenty of space for all.

Very happy buyerGreat size family vehicle. I love the V6 and itβs very nice for its age. Well designed. Most people assume that itβs new. Very roomy for my terms and all of our stuff.

Great but has issuesI had one for 3 years (due to finances), but every time the tachometer was between 1 & 2 rpm the car would start to stutter until I got it above the 2. I had to replace the starter twice within 6 months, tires are not a common tire size (so they cost more). Transmission started slipping, got it to a shop & they wanted $5200 for a new transmission, another shop said $5000 and another said $4700. It was safe, great to drive other than the mechanical issues.
