What Problems Does the 2015 Chevrolet Traverse Have?

The 2015 Chevrolet Traverse has experienced several reported problems. A common issue is related to the air conditioning system, with reports of compressor failures and insufficient cooling, particularly in hot climates. Some owners have also reported problems with the automatic transmission, including rough shifting and occasional slipping. Water pump failure is another reported issue that can lead to engine overheating.
There have been recalls for the 2015 Traverse, including potential issues with the seat belts and airbags. Some owners have reported problems with the timing chain, which can be an expensive repair if not addressed promptly. Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the electrical system and the aforementioned transmission and air conditioning issues. It is important to check the vehicle history report for any outstanding recalls or reported issues before purchasing a used 2015 Traverse. Some model years prior to 2015 experienced more widespread issues with timing chains, so the 2015 model year is generally considered slightly more reliable, though not without its potential faults. Routine maintenance and inspections are crucial to mitigate these potential problems.

How long will the 2015 Chevrolet Traverse last?

With diligent maintenance, a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse can reasonably reach 200,000 miles or more. Assuming average driving habits (around 12,000-15,000 miles per year), this translates to 13-16 years of service. However, lack of proper maintenance can significantly shorten its lifespan. Long-term durability can be affected by issues like transmission problems, water pump failures, and air conditioning malfunctions, as mentioned earlier. Regular oil changes, fluid checks, and timely repairs are crucial for maximizing its longevity. Rust can also be a concern in regions with harsh winters and road salt usage.

I bought a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse 2LT AWD eight passenger to replace a 2011 Buick Enclave lost in a car accident. I could not find a Buick like I had, and a Traverse at this level was also hard to find. This car is optioned out better than the Buick. It runs like a tank and is great in snow. I live in MA and get a lot of snow. The market is full of Traverse's that middle America say want (99%). There all 1LT with nun of the options I need 8 passenger and power hatch. I would recommend these to anyone.
Tanya V,
I love my Traverse! It works for everything I need. It's reliable, safe and really a nice looking vehicle! I won't worry about driving in the snow any more with my new AWD!

The vehicle is an awesome truck, well can be if it's in good shape or new when you get to it. I driven a better 2015 traverse and it confirmed I like this truck once I get one that isn't a lemon. Hayman Subaru on midlothian sold me a chevy lemon. Making Chevrolet look bad when they had nothing to do with the sell or the company's up keep of the truck. I could become a chevy lover and loyal customer pending on the come on Friday at the Chevy service department.

140k miles and already a new engine, now transmission is starting to feel funny... I wouldn’t recommend this car even to my worst enemy... what a shame Chevrolet, last time I buy one of your cars!!! That’s why people prefer Toyota, Honda and Nissan!!

Radiator replaced at 38,000 miles 11/2017 $700. Fuel Valve/Car Stalling after getting fuel at 41,000 miles 03/2018. Just got recall info in the mail for this issue $300. 06/2018 No AC after spending $1200 at 51,000 miles. Purchased car at 15,000 miles

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2015 Chevrolet Traverse offers a decent array of built-in tech and safety features for its time. Standard features include a rearview camera and OnStar. Higher trims (LT and LTZ) boast the MyLink infotainment system with a 6.5-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity, and USB ports. Optional features include a rear-seat entertainment system with DVD player, navigation, and a premium Bose audio system.
Driver-assistance features like blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are available on the LTZ trim. Safety features include standard airbags, anti-lock brakes, and stability control.
Crash-test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) are generally good, with the 2015 Traverse receiving an overall 5-star safety rating. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave it good ratings in several crashworthiness categories. However, small overlap front crash tests may not have been as strong. Overall, the 2015 Traverse provided adequate safety and technology for a family SUV of its era.

2015 Chevrolet Traverse Prices and Market Value

The 2015 Chevrolet Traverse had a starting MSRP of around $31,000 and could reach upwards of $46,000 for a fully-equipped LTZ model when new. Current used market prices typically range from $10,000 to $20,000, depending on condition, mileage, and trim level. The Traverse has experienced significant depreciation over the years, which is typical for large SUVs. Factors affecting resale value include maintenance history, accident-free status, and overall condition. Lower mileage examples and higher trims tend to command higher prices. The availability of popular options like leather seats and a rear-seat entertainment system can also positively impact resale value.

2015 Chevrolet Traverse Cost of Ownership

The 2015 Chevrolet Traverse is generally considered moderately expensive to own long-term. Insurance costs are typical for a large SUV. Fuel economy is below average, contributing to higher fuel expenses. Maintenance costs can be moderate, but potential repairs related to the transmission, air conditioning, and water pump can be costly. Overall, while not the most economical choice, it offers good value considering its size and passenger capacity. Budgeting for potential repairs is important for long-term ownership.

2015 Chevrolet Traverse Insurance

Insurance for a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Wagon with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2015 Chevrolet Traverse Compare to Other Wagon?

The 2015 Chevrolet Traverse competes with vehicles like the Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, Ford Explorer, and Nissan Pathfinder. In terms of performance, the Traverse offers a comparable V6 engine, but its fuel economy lags behind the Highlander and Pilot. Feature-wise, it holds its own, especially in higher trims. However, reliability is a concern, with the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander generally considered more reliable options. The Ford Explorer offers a sportier driving experience.
In terms of price, the Traverse can be competitive on the used market, offering good value for its size. Alternatives to consider include:
  • Honda Pilot: More reliable and fuel-efficient.
  • Toyota Highlander: Known for its reliability and strong resale value.
  • Ford Explorer: Offers a more engaging driving experience.
For someone prioritizing reliability and fuel economy, the Pilot or Highlander are better choices. If a sportier ride is desired, the Explorer is worth considering. If value and space are paramount, the Traverse remains a viable option, provided it has been well-maintained and a thorough inspection is performed before purchase.

Final Verdict: Is the 2015 Chevrolet Traverse a Good Wagon?

The 2015 Chevrolet Traverse is ideal for large families needing ample passenger and cargo space on a budget. It's worth buying used if you prioritize size and value over absolute reliability. However, a thorough inspection is crucial due to potential issues with the transmission and air conditioning. Opting for a well-maintained LT or LTZ trim can provide desirable features without breaking the bank. Consider a pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic. If reliability is a top concern, consider alternatives like the Honda Pilot or Toyota Highlander. Buying one with a detailed service history would be preferable.

Best car!

Love my car, perfect for every day or traveling! The far back seat is a little small but is was larger than other models I tried. The only aggravating thing are the tire sensors, they come on quite often.

Love my Traverse

This car has met all my needs. My sister hit a high line pole that came straight down the middle of her car. This car held up the top and saves her life. If this would have came down and crushed the top she wouldn’t be here today. Thank you Chevrolet .

Love it and will be reluctant to sell it. In New England the remote starter is awesome. Use this car to tote the grandchildren around and to pick up grocery orders. It takes a beating.
