The Good
The 2011 Traverse offers practical advantages like spacious seating for up to eight passengers and ample cargo room. Its smooth ride enhances comfort, appealing to families. The V6 engine provides adequate power. While not exceptionally reliable, it offers good value for money. Aesthetically, it is more appealing than a minivan, satisfying emotional needs for a stylish family vehicle.
The Bad
The 2011 Chevrolet Traverse is known for potential transmission problems, particularly in earlier model years. Watch out for excessive oil consumption and timing chain issues. Some owners have reported problems with the air conditioning system and power steering. Inspect the interior for wear, as some materials are prone to aging.

What Problems Does the 2011 Chevrolet Traverse Have?
Power steering problems, such as whining noises and loss of assist, have been noted. Air conditioning failures, particularly condenser issues, are another concern. Recalls for the 2011 Traverse have addressed problems like faulty side impact airbags and issues with the fuel gauge reading inaccurately. Long-term reliability is a concern due to these issues. Potential buyers should thoroughly inspect the vehicle's service history and consider a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic to check for these common problems. Many of these issues, if left unattended, can lead to costly repairs.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern vehicles, but rear parking sensors were available on the LT trim and standard on the LTZ. The LTZ also included a rearview camera. Safety features included standard antilock brakes, stability control, traction control, and multiple airbags (front, side-impact, and side curtain).
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) were generally positive, with the 2011 Traverse receiving an overall score of 4 out of 5 stars. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) gave the Traverse a "Good" rating in most crash tests. The lack of advanced driver-assistance systems like lane departure warning or blind-spot monitoring, now common in newer vehicles, is a noticeable omission by today's standards. The available OnStar system provided emergency assistance and vehicle diagnostics.

How Does the 2011 Chevrolet Traverse Compare to Other Wagon?
Price-wise, the Traverse can be more affordable on the used market than the Highlander or Pilot. The Ford Explorer offers a similar mix of features and price but may also have its own reliability concerns. A better alternative might be a slightly newer Honda Pilot or Toyota Highlander, which tend to hold their value better and have fewer reported problems. If cargo space is a top priority, the Traverse is a good choice. However, considering the potential for costly repairs, exploring other options with better reliability records is prudent. The Mazda CX-9 provides a more engaging driving experience but might lack the sheer cargo volume of the Traverse.

Final Verdict: Is the 2011 Chevrolet Traverse a Good Wagon?
Avoid examples with high mileage or signs of neglect. Newer alternatives like the Honda Pilot or Toyota Highlander are recommended if budget allows, due to their superior reliability. If opting for the Traverse, consider models with fewer reported issues or those with documented repairs addressing common problems. A pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic is essential.

It met my need to sit more than 5With 7 small grandchildren it met my need for lots of space for Kids and car seats at that time. Since I'm no longer in the transport mode, i no longer needed a larger car.

Bleeding me dry after 100,000 milesWas pretty reliable until it started pushing the 100,000 mile mark. Several recalls (some that should have been) blown engine at 120,000 in spite of regular servicing. Have had it in and out of shop since.

One of the most attractive suv that looked like aThis car met most my needs to and from work. I didn't get the chance to drive it out of town. I've change a cracked windshield, gas tank, bulbs, breaks, battery, breaks and roaters, then immediately the performance of the Travers declined. Driving home from the fix it shop fine a day later traction control, stability, abs, lights all on. I took it back to the shop I was told that the lights would be reset or you could have a bad sensor. Had to go to work so driving home at 2am the lodge freeway the back wheel starts grinding now it need hub or wheel bearing replaced, on my back to work the next afternoon and paying for the bearing repair, made it all the way to Jefferson off the lodge and stopped at the light turned green hit the accelerator and the car would not move. I turned the engine off to restart it again a lot of clanking and sounds of metal tapping lights and warning messages. Long story short a timing chain or a engine replacement is needed. So I'm looking for a long lasting car or suv thats proving to be built to last.
