The 2014 Toyota Avalon represents the fourth generation of Toyota's flagship sedan. A full-size, four-door sedan, it's known for its spacious interior and smooth ride. Model years for this generation span 2013-2018. Key trims include the XLE, XLE Premium, XLE Touring, and Limited. Pricing in 2014 ranged from around $31,000 to $41,000 new. The Avalon stands out for its blend of comfort, reliability, and upscale features at a relatively affordable price, making it a popular choice for families and those seeking a comfortable highway cruiser.
The Good

The 2014 Avalon offers a comfortable and spacious cabin, appealing to those seeking a relaxing ride. Its strong V6 engine delivers confident performance, while Toyota's reputation for reliability provides peace of mind for practical buyers. Fuel efficiency is decent for its class, and the Avalon presents excellent value compared to some luxury brands. The sleek design also adds to its appeal.

The Bad

The 2014 Avalon's handling isn't as sporty as some rivals. The infotainment system, while functional, can feel dated compared to newer systems. Some owners have reported issues with the navigation system and the Entune app suite. Be sure to check for any unusual noises from the suspension during a test drive, and inspect the leather seats for wear, especially in high-mileage examples.

What Problems Does the 2014 Toyota Avalon Have?

The 2014 Toyota Avalon generally enjoys strong reliability ratings. However, some frequently reported problems include issues with the infotainment system, specifically the Entune app suite and navigation system. Some owners have reported glitches, freezing, or slow response times. There have also been reports of issues with the automatic transmission, including rough shifting or hesitation. These issues are less common but worth noting. Some owners have mentioned concerns about the durability of the leather upholstery, particularly in models with light-colored interiors.
Recalls for the 2014 Avalon have been issued for various reasons, including issues with the fuel delivery system and the seat belt assembly. It's essential to check the vehicle's VIN on the NHTSA website to see if any recalls apply. Long-term reliability concerns are generally minimal, but regular maintenance is crucial to ensure optimal performance and longevity. Hybrid models may eventually require battery replacement, which can be a significant expense. Potential buyers should carefully inspect the vehicle's maintenance history and address any outstanding recalls or concerns before purchasing.

How long will the 2014 Toyota Avalon last?

With proper maintenance, a 2014 Toyota Avalon can easily reach 200,000 miles or more. Many owners report achieving this milestone with regular servicing and preventative care. Given its age, expect well-maintained models to offer several more years of reliable service. Common weaknesses that may emerge over time include wear and tear on suspension components, potential issues with the air conditioning system, and the gradual degradation of rubber components like hoses and belts. Properly maintained, these issues can be mitigated. Hybrid battery life can also be a long-term consideration, with potential replacement needed after 10-15 years or 150,000+ miles.

I have a 2007 toyota sienna and a 2020 Kia Sedona. I have also had different types of cars in the past, Subaru, Honda, Land Rover, Camaro. I need another used vehicle and I started doing a LOT of research and was going to go for a newer Camry, but by pure accident I discovered this 2014 Camry. To make it really short, I ended up purchasing one in mint condition with 30K miles. To make this review really short, I LOVE this Avalon. Same engine with the same AWESOME and bulletproof six speed transmission!!! I HATE the eight speed transmission in the new Kia Sedona. This Avalon is smooth and powerful. I did not want a four cylinder car. I have never driven an older Avalon model but I do believe people saying that car is smoother and more comfortable, but, my Sienna is also very comfortable and I have zero complaints with my new used Avalon. The handling and smoothness is just awesome and I feel it rides like half my Sienna and half my Sedona, meaning that it has a very nicely balanced ride. This car was just the right car for me.

I own the hybrid model. Best automobile I have ever owned. Great gas mileage, 38-40 consistently. Extremely comfortable. Maintenance has always been reasonable. After 200,000 miles I might need new breaks in a year or show. Finally went amber. Batteries holding up well.

2014 Avalon Limited, 6 cylinder with 56K miles. Beautiful car, very comfortable and it runs like a dream. The 2014 Avalon Limited greatly exceeded my expectations, has all the custom features, great sound system and I absolutely love the car.

I owned an Avalon in 1996 and 2004, both had a comfortable ride. the 2014 has a rough ride..."supposedly the new sport car feel" . To me an Avalon is a luxury car..not a sport car.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2014 Toyota Avalon comes standard with a rearview camera, Bluetooth connectivity, and Toyota's Entune infotainment system with a touchscreen display. Higher trims offer features like a navigation system, a JBL premium audio system, and blind-spot monitoring. Driver-assistance features, while not as advanced as modern systems, include anti-lock brakes, stability control, and a suite of airbags. Optional features on higher trims included adaptive cruise control and a pre-collision system.
The Entune system provides access to apps like Pandora and iHeartRadio, but its functionality is somewhat limited compared to newer infotainment systems. The Avalon also features keyless entry and ignition, as well as leather upholstery on most trims.
In terms of safety, the 2014 Toyota Avalon received excellent crash-test ratings from both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The NHTSA awarded it a 5-star overall safety rating. The IIHS gave it a "Top Safety Pick" designation. These ratings reflect the Avalon's strong performance in frontal, side, and rollover crash tests.

2014 Toyota Avalon Prices and Market Value

The 2014 Toyota Avalon had a starting MSRP of around $31,000 when new, with higher trims reaching upwards of $41,000. Current used market prices typically range from $12,000 to $20,000, depending on mileage, condition, and trim level. The Avalon has depreciated significantly over the years, but its strong reputation for reliability helps maintain its resale value compared to some competitors. Factors affecting resale value include a clean title, complete maintenance records, low mileage, and the overall condition of the vehicle. Well-equipped Limited models tend to command higher prices than base XLE trims.

2014 Toyota Avalon Cost of Ownership

The 2014 Toyota Avalon is generally considered economical to own. Insurance costs are typically moderate, and fuel consumption is reasonable for a full-size sedan, especially the hybrid model. Maintenance costs are predictable and generally lower than many competitors, thanks to Toyota's reliability. Repair costs are also relatively low due to the availability of parts and the ease of working on Toyota vehicles. Long-term ownership costs are manageable, making the Avalon a budget-friendly option in its class.

2014 Toyota Avalon Insurance

Insurance for a 2014 Toyota Avalon is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2014 Toyota Avalon Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2014 Toyota Avalon competes with vehicles like the Buick LaCrosse, Chrysler 300, and Nissan Maxima. Compared to the LaCrosse, the Avalon offers similar comfort and reliability but may have a slightly more modern interior design. The Chrysler 300 boasts more aggressive styling and available V8 power, but the Avalon excels in fuel efficiency and reputation for long-term reliability. The Nissan Maxima offers a sportier driving experience, but the Avalon provides a more comfortable and spacious cabin.

In terms of features, all these vehicles offer similar levels of technology, but the Avalon's infotainment system might feel dated compared to newer iterations. Pricing is generally competitive across the board.

Alternatives to the Avalon include the Lexus ES 350 (for a more luxurious experience, albeit at a higher price) or the Hyundai Azera (for a value-packed option with a longer warranty). If a sporty driving experience is a priority, the Nissan Maxima might be a better choice. However, for a blend of comfort, reliability, and value, the 2014 Toyota Avalon remains a strong contender. Considering the Mazda 6 for a sportier alternative with good fuel economy and reliability.

The 2014 Toyota Avalon is an excellent choice for buyers seeking a comfortable, reliable, and spacious full-size sedan. It's particularly well-suited for families, commuters, and anyone prioritizing a smooth ride and Toyota's renowned dependability. It's definitely worth buying used, especially if you can find a well-maintained example with low mileage and a clean history. The XLE Premium or XLE Touring trims offer a good balance of features and value. The Limited trim is worth considering if you desire more luxurious amenities. Avoid examples with questionable maintenance records or significant accident history. Opt for a pre-purchase inspection to ensure peace of mind.

Toyota Understands Hybrid Technology

Purchased a used 2014, Limted Hybrid Avalon with 88K. This has every available option on it for the model year. The car rides great on the almost new Michelin tires. I will be driving any speed and the little green EV mode light will come on and the main ICE will just shut off. You don’t even know it. It’s nice going past gas stations and not needing gas only once a month.

Reliable car

This car met all my needs. I am loving the vehicle that I bought. The bad thing if you are a tall person it is hard for someone tall to get in and out of it especially in the back seat. I am short and I love it.

Comfort to the max.

This car is not only comfortable...it has style and class. The interior design is a classic! The exterior chassis design is a head turner. I shopped for an Avalon because of the superior smooth ride. Except for the newer style tires, I was entirely satisfied. These tires make the ride a bit more rough than previous models. I enjoy everything about the Avalon. I look forward to driving it...not just another car...it is a pleasure.

Lexus with the badge

This vehicle drives , looks and handles extremely well. Ive owned Lexus vehicles in the past and always wanted an Avalon but chosen the Lexus badge. This time around I was looking for this vehicle and found it with 52k miles and will enjoy this purchase for some time.
