The 2007 Toyota Avalon is a full-size sedan known for its spacious interior, comfortable ride, and Toyota's reputation for reliability. Part of the third generation (2005-2012), it offered a blend of luxury and practicality. Key trims included the XL, Touring, XLS, and Limited. When new, prices ranged from approximately $28,000 to $34,000. Its popularity stems from its smooth V6 engine, quiet cabin, and ample rear legroom, making it a favorite for families and those prioritizing comfort.
The Good

The 2007 Avalon offers a compelling blend of advantages. Practically, it boasts Toyota's renowned reliability, a comfortable ride, and decent fuel efficiency for its size. Emotionally, owners appreciate the spacious, upscale interior, quietness, and smooth V6 power that inspires confidence and relaxed cruising. It's a sensible choice that doesn't feel like a compromise.

The Bad

While generally reliable, the 2007 Avalon can experience issues with the electronic throttle control system, potentially causing hesitation or stalling. Some owners have reported problems with the navigation system and cracking dashboards. Regular maintenance is crucial to mitigate potential problems. Check for rust, especially in areas with harsh winters.

What Problems Does the 2007 Toyota Avalon Have?

The 2007 Toyota Avalon, while generally reliable, has some frequently reported problems. One common concern involves the electronic throttle control system, where some owners have experienced hesitation, stalling, or sudden acceleration. This issue can be intermittent and difficult to diagnose.
Another known problem is dashboard cracking, particularly in warmer climates. The dashboard material can become brittle and develop cracks over time, affecting the interior's aesthetics. Older Avalons also might show their age with worn suspension components like struts, lower control arms, sway bar links, and bushings, leading to a less comfortable ride and potential handling issues.
Some owners have reported issues with the navigation system, which can become outdated or malfunction. It's important to check the condition of the navigation system if it's a crucial feature for you.
Recalls for the 2007 Avalon primarily centered around issues with airbags. Check the vehicle's VIN on the NHTSA website to ensure all applicable recalls have been addressed. Long-term reliability concerns mostly revolve around the aforementioned issues and general wear and tear associated with aging vehicles. Regular maintenance, including fluid changes and inspections, can help mitigate these concerns.

How long will the 2007 Toyota Avalon last?

A well-maintained 2007 Toyota Avalon can easily exceed 200,000 miles or more. With proper care and consistent maintenance, owners often report 15-20 years of service. However, long-term durability depends heavily on maintenance habits. Neglecting oil changes, transmission services, or other critical maintenance will significantly shorten its lifespan. Weaknesses over time include potential issues with the electronic throttle body, cracking dashboard (especially in hot climates), and wear and tear on suspension components. Rust can also be a concern in colder regions with road salt use. Regular inspections and timely repairs are key to maximizing its lifespan.

Car has more issues than advertised. Drives and handles like Toyota should but needs work to be road safe. Not sure if you’re ever get cigarette smell out
Commuter
I did have an unexpected acceleration problem. While driving on route 80 towards New York City at approximately 65 to 70 mph, the car decided to accelerate; it lurched forward for a few seconds. Fortunately the road was not crowded at the time and the car stopped accelerating on its own. The dealer was very nice, gave me a rental until the recommended pedal repair was done but given what I have read about what is unknown about the cause of this problem I am still nervous about driving it. I plan to get rid of the car asap.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2007 Toyota Avalon offered a decent array of technology for its time. Standard features included a CD player, AM/FM radio, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Higher trims like the XLS and Limited added a JBL premium audio system with a multi-disc CD changer. A navigation system was an optional feature on the XLS and Limited models.
Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern vehicles, but the Limited trim offered optional laser cruise control.
Safety features included anti-lock brakes (ABS), traction control, stability control, front-seat side airbags, and full-length side curtain airbags.
The 2007 Avalon received good crash-test ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The IIHS gave it a "Good" rating in frontal offset and side impact crash tests. NHTSA awarded it five stars for driver and passenger protection in frontal crash tests and five stars for side crash protection.
Optional features across trims included a sunroof, heated seats, and upgraded upholstery. While not brimming with cutting-edge technology by today's standards, the 2007 Avalon provided a comfortable and safe driving experience for its era.

2007 Toyota Avalon Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2007 Toyota Avalon ranged from approximately $28,000 to $34,000 depending on the trim level and options. Current used market prices typically range from $5,000 to $10,000, but this can vary based on condition, mileage, and location. Depreciation has been significant due to the vehicle's age. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, condition (especially interior and exterior), service history, and trim level. Avalons with lower mileage, clean titles, and documented maintenance records command higher prices. The Limited trim often holds its value slightly better due to its premium features.

2007 Toyota Avalon Cost of Ownership

The 2007 Toyota Avalon is generally considered relatively economical to own. Insurance costs are typically moderate. Fuel economy is decent for a full-size sedan, averaging around 25 mpg combined. Maintenance costs are usually reasonable, thanks to Toyota's reliability and the availability of affordable parts. However, unexpected repairs can occur due to the vehicle's age. Long-term ownership costs depend on maintenance habits; neglecting upkeep can lead to costly repairs. Overall, it strikes a good balance between affordability and comfort.

2007 Toyota Avalon Insurance

Insurance for a 2007 Toyota Avalon is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2007 Toyota Avalon Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2007 Toyota Avalon competed with full-size sedans like the Buick Lucerne, Chrysler 300, Ford Taurus, and Nissan Maxima. In terms of performance, the Avalon's V6 engine offered a smooth and adequate, though not exhilarating, experience, similar to the Lucerne but less powerful than the Chrysler 300's optional V8. The Nissan Maxima offered sportier handling.
Feature-wise, the Avalon offered a comfortable interior and decent tech for its time, comparable to the Lucerne and Taurus. The Chrysler 300 had a bolder design and more available features, while the Maxima prioritized sporty driving dynamics and unique styling.
Reliability is where the Avalon shines, often outperforming its American rivals like the Lucerne and Taurus. The Nissan Maxima is also known for its reliability, making it a worthy competitor. In terms of price, the Avalon was generally competitively priced within its segment.
Alternatives to the 2007 Avalon include the Nissan Maxima (for sportier handling) and a newer, well-maintained Lexus ES (for a more luxurious experience at a potentially similar used price point). If reliability is the top priority, the Avalon remains a strong contender, though thoroughly inspecting any used vehicle is crucial.

Final Verdict: Is the 2007 Toyota Avalon a Good Sedan?

The 2007 Toyota Avalon is ideal for buyers seeking a comfortable, reliable, and spacious full-size sedan at an affordable price. It's a good choice for families, commuters, or anyone prioritizing a smooth ride and a quiet cabin. Whether it's worth buying depends on its condition and maintenance history. Buying used is the only option now, so a thorough pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic is essential. Look for well-maintained examples with complete service records. Higher trims (XLS and Limited) offer more features, but even the base XL provides a comfortable and reliable experience. Avoid examples with significant rust or known issues with the throttle body or dashboard.
